Naaaa.... she rehearsed that speech once and again, she admitted that. You won't actually find her on KZread really speaking German, apart from that one speech, over and over... yes, she would talk about the language, give some example words, teach some curses, but all in all she doesn't communicate in German, not fluently (far away from fluent, actually). Which is a shame, considering she actually did grow up as a child with the German part of her family, in Germany.

I met Vigo Mortenson in Mexico City at a local dentists office. He was waiting for, what I assumed was his friend, and I was waiting for my brother and we had an pleasant conversation in perfect spanish. He was THE nicest actor person I've ever met, second goes to Eva Green, when I recognized him I said "Are you Mr. Mortenson" and his response was "Por favor; Viggo" then we talked about sports, the city, local restaurants etc; All in spanish. As he was leaving we shook hands and I said, "My brother is never gonna believe me" in english and he realized I was also a polyglot and he goes, and this is a direct quote, "you little rascal!" and "bis spater!" and as he's leaving out the door I go; "pas si je te vois an premier" and he laughed out loud as the door closed. Thank you. The Sandra Bullock origin is well known here in Germany. But you have forgotten one of the greatest of all time. Sir Peter Ustinov. Okay, he has unfortunately passed away so long ago. But I would like to remind everybody here of him. He learned a total of eight languages, six of which he spoke almost fluently. He spoke English, French, Spanish, Italian, German, and Russian fluently, as well as some Turkish and modern Greek. He was proficient in accents and dialects in all his languages. Ustinov provided his own German and French dubbing for some of his roles. R.i.P. Sir Peter Alexander Ustinov (born as Peter Alexander Freiherr von Ustinov)

To learn a language Conway isn’t just about what you learn in class. You have to find different ways and different media to use all day long at home. And practice talking to yourself in the language and talking to other people in your spare time. You have to immerse yourself in the language, not just learn it. I really believe that’s the difference between those who really learn a language, and those who just learn a little bit of it.

But I always tell people that once you speak one of the Latin languages, it is easy to learn and speak all Latin-derived languages. Same root, and similar wording. The only thing that changes is the pronunciation. I find it more meritable when you know how to speak Russian, Chinese, Slavic languages, etc, when your native tongue is Spanish for example since they have a completely different grammatical structure.

The deaf instructors were much better (hearing instructors were good, but Deaf instructors were better). All through the program, we were encouraged to get Deaf instructors whenever possible. ASL is my fifth language, but I use it more than any other language, except for my native English. (And for anyone who's interested, the switch between small "d" deaf and capital "D" deaf is to differentiate a medical condition/disability ("deaf") versus the culture ("Deaf").)

The more languages you speak, the more people you can talk to. It's amazing how people can change attitude if you address them in their native language. If you're young, you learn languages fast & relatively easy. Some people retain that capability later in life. And the more languages you already know, the easier it is to learn another one, especially if it's the same language family. I myself speak 4 languages. I learned them all in school, and with family, friends an neighbours, I spoke them. But why is this so amazing for celebs? Being an actor, you deal with language all the time. Most of them are pretty smart, too. So learning another one, especially if you grow up in an international environment, isn't that hard.

Aren't Timothée & Sandra in the same category as Charlize? It is their native language from one parent, and both lived in France and Germany respectively for significant periods of time in their lives. Maybe we should compliment Charlize on her English instead LOL. Impressed with Tom Hiddleston being able to speak and read Greek, so much harder when the alphabet is not Romance/Germanic based.

Besides, it's quite funny how she ended going to Talavera de la Reina, which deffinetly is not one of the most relevant cities of Spain. I don't know... I really like how I can understand most of what those actors actually are saying. Most of them use a pretty easy form of the target language. Sandra Bullock sounds a bit aggressive sometimes... haha (coming from somebody who's German himself ;-) but it's just the way she says some things... other than that it's a very interesting mix of NO accent certain words and very thick accent for others coming from her). Overall I really love her German voice! Keeping in mind, that all celebs not only have a lot of money, but also travel quite a lot and most of them have a good educational background... it's not really suprising that they can actually to a certain degree speak a second (or even third) language. From a non-english europiean perspective many people from a certain educational background speak at least English fluently (or fluent enough...) and a third language (french, italien, spanish, would be the classics... or for other people arabic, russian, etc.). So actually it's mostly english speaking countries where (sadly) too many people just don't learn at least a second language (if they are not raised with more than one). To put things into perspective ^.^
