When he says he wants to be remembered for helping people, not for his role as Chandler, I hope he knew that Friends did help people. It brought families together, it gave them something to look forward to, it made friends out of strangers. His performance as Chandler helped me. For many depressed people he was what would make a smile appear.

Watched friends alot when my ex left me 15 years ago I watched it so much I beat the ps2 trivia game on the hardest level. Friends has definitely helped me get through my darkest of days I was very salty when it got taken off Netflix. Chandler and Joey were definitely my favorites..

Robin Williams killed himself very deliberately and struggled with mental illness. Perry simply lacked imagination and was lucky to not have died sooner. I don't see how you liken the two. But then you White Friends reruns probably hold your interest.

Beautiful tribute. I have never been rocked so hard by a celebrity passing. I was a big fan and read his memoir just a few weeks ago. It was stunning and I've recommended it to everyone since then. Even if you're not a fan, his book is a must read and an incredible insight into the mind of an addict.

I have been a huge fan of his, too. And I agree with you that losing him has been truly a heartbreaking loss for me, too. I was just reading his book (actually listening to it on Audible narrated by Matthew himself) when I heard of his passing and it made it even more painful to hear him speak about his pain and suffering that he had lived with. So so sad! I really loved him so much and he gave me so much happiness, joy and laughter in his work. He was a magical comedic actor. 😊

I'm over 70 yrs old. I have seen young people's lives taken too soon over and over because of something that could have been prevented. I'm glad he wrote a memoir so it can help others but I'm pretty sure young people will never learn.

Matthew's passing has made me come into realization that the "Friends" era has finally come to an end. You'll forever be missed - RIP Matthew.

I got the news from a notification on my phone. I cried off and on for days afterwards. It still doesn't seem real, even though it's been almost 2 months. Matthew definitely had many more years ahead of him. 54 is much too young to die. 🥺🦇💔

This was sooo BEAUTIFUL!! I have always been a big fan of 'Friends' but I have been a BIGGER FAN of Matthew Perry. I just wanted him to KEEP FIGHTING and KEEP WINNING against his battles. I cannot stop crying...he's at peace now...REST EASY MATTHEW PERRY...you have helped and encouraged more people than you will ever know...

The saddest thing is that Matt did not realize how beautiful he was, how much he deserved to be loved by a wife and have kids with her. He was alone when he passed maybe a little happy but alone.

I have not been one for crying over celebrity deaths, but I was full on ugly crying over his death. Thank you Matthew, for the laughs, the one liners, and making the world feel like you were their friend.

I spoke to my mother earlier today. She told me my dad in his 80's is having a hard time with his passing. When id go over to stay Dad and I would binge watch a few episodes and laugh. Man, along with Elvis, Thurmon Munson of the NY Yankees and Prince I don't think I've ever felt such a loss. Rip in peace Matthew. I hope as your soul looks down on us, you see the affect/effect you have had in our lives.

Don’t even go there…it is a real disease, worst than Cancer, HIV, or Covid…it is a silent killer…I have been diagnosed with PTSD, Depression and Alcoholic for 30 years…After I got back from Afghanistan…I lost few friends there in Combat…it was really suck…I just recently get recovery and over 19 months sober…I am going back to school for Electrical Engineering…I have to leave all my family, my old friend and my old town…to start a new life again…it is not easy for anyone who has this disease…that’s why you see so many homeless on streets…be grateful what you have and others don’t have…help others if you can…even give a little…God bless you…Good luck…

We never truly know someone's struggle but Matthew decided to share his in his book. His pain was indescribable but I hope he can rest now. I'm speechless and so sad for his suffering when he brought so much laughter and light to other people. He reached true enlightenment and self-awareness here and I'm glad of that. He came full circle but I'm also dismayed that his story ended like this. He truly made it his mission to understand his disease and the affliction he was so tortured by.

This is one exceptional tribute to Matthew Perry. I watched Friends from 9/22/1994 to 5/6/2004. I then watched it during the pandemic... all 10 seasons. I watched the Friends Reunion on HBO on 5/27/2021. I'm now watching the Friends show again... all 10 seasons. I will miss Matthew forever and always 💔

It’s so amazing that one silly TV show can save someone’s life…I am a survivor of child sexual abuse and wanted to end my life many times in a past. I was born in Japan and moved to America when I was 24 in order to run away from my abusive family. Because I couldn’t speak English, I was so alone and scared everyday. Friends didn’t only help me to learn English but also helped me to laugh at silly things in everyday life, which got me through difficulties. Despite all the struggles, Matthew managed to make that happen for me through the show. I am forever grateful for his work.

Of all celebrity's passing, this one hit me the hardest. I grew up watching Friends and became quite addicted to the show and all the cast members. May you rest in peace Mr. Matthew Perry....you will be fondly missed.

RIP Matthew..you were adored by those that love you and adored by millions of fans..You left an amazing legacy of a remarkable show that has a special place in all our hearts and touched so many generations and growing..Your open..honest and raw frankness in discussing your addiction struggle have touched all that admire you and those that have the struggle..

I've Prayed for Matthew. And I will be Praying for his family and his friends. I just knew he was a kind soul. It takes a special person to leave such a mark on so many hearts and hearts that he never knew and Matthew Perry was that kind of a person. 🙏❤

Matthew will be sadly missed, he has managed to make me smile for many years, and once I manage to stop crying he will once again make me smile when I re-watch him. he was such a sweet and caring man RIP Mathew Perry

He was my friend when I felt absolutely lonely. Growing up was hard, but he made it easy and I never felt alone when watching friends. Well done. “Can it BE any more painful than this “ .

I hope he knows that him being Chandler helped so many people get through tough times in their lives, myself included. He brought so much laughter and comfort to a struggling 10-year-old me as well as many others. Rest in peace, Matthew. I hope you’re finally happy.

I hope Mathew knew the impact he had on everyone he worked with and his fans. We will continue watching Chandler Bing to put a smile on our face, but I will remember Mathew Perry for his courage and bravery for sharing his story, his compassion for others sharing his struggle with addiction. You will be remembered for that Mathew, rest easy.

He was funny, but so serious, so normal, and smart & logical, it is a terrible sadness at his passing, R.I. P. Matthew, you are nice, was a very special and caring person, all who have seen you on TV or movies, all knew he was special, and tried how hard he he wanted to help others

He was such a sweet guy with the heart of gold. He will be really missed by people all over the world. May he rest in peace.Amen

Almost 2 weeks later i still feel like i just got the news. I didn’t even personally know him…. How much i miss him😢 thank you for your book and your passion!🎉

What a beautiful person he was , very funny and deeply cared for others . I could see the pain in his face , we can't hide it tbh. Im the same . Addiction is a brutal killer and is just as serious as any other illness or health problem. Amazing resilience from Matthew and will miss him dearly. He is at peace now and he no longer needs to fight or battle anymore. 😢❤ x

You are so right. Addiction is just plain awful. It's hardly controllable,it ruins family and friends. You think you are insane,a bad human being and you just want to escape. No one can understand the pain of addiction unless you go through it. It's so hard but I made it thru it and am finally alive and blessed. Peace is finally in my life

If Matthew Perry’s Family read these posts I am so sorry for your loss. Loved watching him in friends.

I grew up with 'Friends'. And to learn of his addiction as an adult was heartbreaking enough. This is just devastating. RIP Matthew Perry.

We should all binge-watch Friends. Through laughter, Matthew will continue to help people.

Terribly heartbroken over his loss. He fought his demons and at the end he wanted to help others nothing but good things to say about him .

😢 Matthew is addiction free now ,living joyfully on the other side. I've a friend who battles the same demons Matthew spoke of and for the same reasons Matthew said he broke up with Julia, my friend self sabotages his life the same way. He's been in four-five rehab stints, he's got a heart condition now...and he's only 35. I pray for him all the time.

I can’t remember such a massive worldwide grief… and for a reason. He was the soul of “Friends”. And he will always be the friend all of us need. And Chanandler Bong will always be here, just a step away from us.

Still so saddened by his passing, never has the death of a stranger hit me so hard. Truth be told, he wasn't a stranger at all. He was a very good friend. Thank you Matthew for everything you've done for us all. 💔

I just shed a tear for a person I have never met in my life. I don't think he knew how loved he was. Thank you for making your character so legendary,and for all the help you gave to those in need. And I can only hope you can rest in heaven. My prayers go to his familly and everyone who knew him.

I know him from Friends, 90% of the people know him as a Chandler. He was my favorite character in Friends. He made us laugh with the Sarcasm and stuff Could I be more sad while I am writing all of this. RIP Mathew.

I have cried so hard over his death.. he got our family thru so much .. makes us laugh so much..we quote friends as our family thing..so many memories with him in our family time Lord comfort his friends and family..

Chandler was always my favorite. You could feel his vulnerability and his kindness. He was a brilliant comedian. I miss him and didn’t even know him personally. They didn’t mention the role he played in “The West Wing”. I loved him in that show also. Love you, Matthew. I’ve experienced my own very dark places…it makes life very hard.

No matter how famous you are....sometimes there is nobody else to be with you in the end RIP
