I'm Indian, and out of the trinity, Whitney was the last one i started taking a liking to. it really took me a while to get used with her man-voice and thick vibrato. i like big elastic voices, yes. but i tend to like middle-of-the-road Mariah/Celine/Tina Arena/LeAnn Rimes/Brandy/Shanice Wilson/Kelly Rowland voices that are big enough but can-sound-mellow at the same time. for me its always Mariah first (coz she not only sings, she writes and creates music as well) and Celine a very close second. there are other singers who sound almost identical to Whitney (Cece Winans, Glennis Grace)... Mariah's too unique. if certain young stans think Ariana sound like Mariah, they are reaching!!

The best live version ever always come from the Tokyo Dome concert. She really nailed it big time. Of all her live performances spanning her career, THIS one here is the ultimate. Pure vocal sheer genuine talent. Those Japanese audience was very lucky.

I've felt this way for the past 23 yeras. Once in a while comes a singer whose voice I can appreciate or love but Mariah's was the real deal. The tones, the mastery of all registers, the songwriting, the ringing belts, the deep lows, the earth-shattering heights, the incredibly fast melisma, the musicality, the power through softness, never oversinging. I feel so lucky that I was born in the same era as her and feel sorry for anyone who has slept on her. One of a kind.

SAME THOUGHTS! After discovering her catalogue and live performances, every other singer in pop music compared to her for me is bland. There are singers who are good at low notes, some good at belting high notes, some good at riffing and running, some can whistle, some have beautiful tones in their voices that are pleasant to listen to, some are creative with their music, etc. But she encompasses/masters all of those qualities. Crazy good. You can really feel the urgency of her singing, and how her voice reflects the meaning of the words. It's so weird, how she can sing a thing like she never sang it before, even though she is repeating the same words again. That almost can't be taught. Also she is able to sing words through different mental states, so you are hearing, hope, desperation, sorrow, overcoming a problem... without it seeming disingenious, that is so difficult to do without almost losing your mind. Because most people only sing through their own character interpretation, they don't shift personality. I think you can only achieve that, if you live and breathe music, and you are fully tuned in as a human being, mentally/physically.
