In order to be even considered to compare with Mariah Carey... you need to check the things in this list first. 1. Strong Chest Voice! Able to sing low and belt notes flawlessly without straining. I've heard a lot of singers who covered MC's songs, when it comes to upper belt, they are very weak at it and use falsetto/head voice to reach the notes instead. Some just strained the heck out of their voice, that's why they said "vocal suicide". Some could even do whistle notes but couldn't do justice to the upper belts. 2. Have a soft, full, dark, and melodic tone and able to have a clear diction. In order to fit with MC songs' mood, the tone need to be similar. Bright, light, sharp tone won't fit the mood, though bright tone tends to have much clearer diction. That's why practice.....! Produce those sounds and consonants clear. 3. Have at least 4-octave range! Able to sing low, mid, belt, high. And all the notes in between, no skipping any note! MC'S range is 5.4. And able to do a lot of stuff with that vocal range. If you have a 5-octave range with weak and untrained, then don't even count. 4. Able to write their own songs with meaningful/creative lyrics. Also superior to your own voice, meaning other singers when cover your songs feel pressure as the songs are built for your voice, fit your tone and range. We rarely hear singers cover MC songs, because they require tons of vocal acrobats! 5. Able to do vocal acrobats, like hit low, belt, high, whistle notes, shift register smoothly, sing in different register, run, riff, melisma, phrase, etc. All the things Taylor Swift can't do. xD 6. Stage presence, show emotion when sing, captivate audiences. Switch original keys to different keys when live, do a live version of the studio version and dont have to be exactly the same every notes. Mix it up! 7. Versatile, able to have fun with different music genres, dance and have fun, also a performer. 8. Able to act, direct, produce, his/her music video, be creative, artwork. 9. On high-maintenance of vocal because you know your voice is precious. 10. Be fabulous, be a diva/divo and shady as f**k because you know you're good! haha xD There, 10 things to be considered the next music legendary. If anybody is able to do it, let me know xD haha.

This is her most beautiful and my most favorite song of her, too. "Emotions" and many others because there's too much high notes and I don't have whistle range. 90s Mariah set the basis for her style. Afterward, she built on it. She just got better and ridiculously accurate with her note choice and tone. Butterfly album is THE benchmark. NO ONE CAN REPEAT OR BETTER THAT. It's all sweet candy. I've got a cavity from it.

I love the way she adjust the mic coz that's how powerful her voice is.

People don't realise how impossible it is to sing this song. It is suprahuman. You can hear these dynamics and acrobatics in people who have been trained for 25 years and more in Indian classical singing and vocal art. Mariah Carey is simply the greatest.

The "mic swinging" is a clever way to get dynamics right singing live. Controls volume, like a knob. And the hand waving? That is a mind trick she (and other singers) use to "aim" for melisma on pitch, kind of a form of mathmatics . Basically there is a lot going on in her and any good singers mind when they sing. The voice is truly an instrument that takes practice and skill, something many modern day singers have forgotten.

You might not like her or think that her tone sounds boring and bland but girl her technique is almost as great as mariahs, her versatility in music is unmatched, she has more than 4 octave range. She can sing circles around artists like Ariana, Adele, Sia and even Lady Gaga. In addition to that she's been singing sing 1993 and her voice still sounds very great. And there is a reason why she's called the greatest performer alive. Not a single artist in the whole damn music industry can deliver a Coachella performance like Beyoncé did and if you watch her documentary "homecoming" you know damn well that you can't deny that. Now stop uplifting Mariah and dragging Bey. They are good friends and even Mariah said that Beyoncé is a gorgeous vocalist. I seriously hate fandoms. Mariah and Beyoncé are my queens but lambs can't stop to drag people like Beyoncé, Whitney or Celiné down.

For those who are wondering why Mariah waves her microphone like that, no, she is not lip-syncing. Those are her vocals live. She's doing a performing technique . See, a lot of singers make the mistake in shoving the microphone to their face when they perform. They end up sounding loud and rough. The reason Ms. Mariah here can achieve a smooth and butter-like sound from voice when sings is because she knows how to control her volume and proportion the mic from her face. With this, she is able to control her low and high notes notes, her volume, and the amount of breath noise she sings into the mic. Its vocal perfection at its best. Hence the standing ovation throughout her performance.

Super super super trueee!!!! She knows when and when not to distance the mic from her mouth. Sometimes, even her whispery voice is too powerful she doesnt need to put the mic too close. That's how amazing she is!!! Forever love mariah!

I was at this concert! We drove from MD to NY and I was only 12! She didn’t perform this, but this must have been rehearsal or after everyone left. I was requesting her to sing this and “Underneath the Stars” all night. Her voice was live and flawless all night and she’s is not lipping this. It’s definitely live, but they edited scenes of the audience to make it look like it was during her concert!

the placement is what really separates Mariah from a lot of other vocalists. belting like that can get overwhelming to listen to but as an amazing vocalist Mariah knows how to place and support that the sound... A lot of people just holler...

She has the most beautiful and angelic voice I' ve ever heard, It' s magic, unreal, heavenly. And this song is almost impossible to sing. Forever the unbeatable Vocal Queen 👑

Sadly Mariah Carey's songs are one of the most difficults in the industry, Emotions is the most difficult song in the world, Vision of Love and Fly Like A Bird are impossible to cover perfectly well done. Forever is not impossible but extremely hard to sing as the breath technique has to be perfect, these long C5's aren't easy to hit specially if they are the chorus force.

Absolutely breathtaking! Hearing Mariah sing "Forever" always stops me in my tracks. That soaring voice. The presence of her on-stage delivery in this video. Her voice is perfect. Perhaps, other-worldly. And when I hear this song it, is as if we are hearing an angel sing among the clouds of the heavens - if that should exist out there, somewhere. Now, I was in college in the early 90s when Mariah's first album dropped. And everybody loved it! I can remember being in the dormitory with friends and listening to her first CD. My roommates and I were like "Who is this person? This amazing artist?" For me, this song is the culmination of all her experience. The absolute peak. Brings a tear to my eye, because with these lyrics, I ponder the passing of time, the loss of loved ones, and the profound sadness that things will always change and you can't hold on and live in the past. Nevertheless, with these lyrics, is that holding onto that idea of "forever love." Remarkable. Thank you for this gift to the world, Mariah. Your songs have made the world a better place and enriched our lives as we make our way thru our everyday lives.

That voice was sent to us from God. Nobody can sing like that. She has emotion, breath control, range, and she flips from chest to falsetto to whistle like she was born with a piano in her throat. Whitney Houston had a powerful voice and it was hard to ignore but she had a range like anybody else it was just when whit sang it the song was better. But almost every song written by Mariah is impossible for anybody to sing without changing it.
