The runner up is usually not scheduled for an interview, the fact that Magnus specially asked for one and wanted to share his thoughts speaks volumes to how much he enjoyed the match. Magnus gave up his world title because he was worn out by the whole process year after year and stopped enjoying it, almost seems like this encounter rekindled his love for chess lol. Super nice to see. Never have I ever seen Magnus so “happy” after a defeat, or ever for that matter, and so so complimentary of anyone. Great job by the commentators! I think this is the first time I was roughly able to actually follow what's going on in such a game. Making such complicated games look intuitive to beginners/average chess players is really an impressive achievement. Without commentary I would get lost after a few moves. Their passion and authentic interest in the game makes it really entertaining to watch as well. Thank you a lot for this!

Excellent work, commentators! I believe this is the first time I can reasonably follow the action in a game like this. Really impressive is the ability to make even average chess players or beginners feel comfortable with such complex games. I would quickly become lost if there was no commentary. It is also incredibly entertaining to watch because of their enthusiasm and genuine interest in the game. Many thanks for doing this!

If Hikaru didn't stall the time, every chess player would have thought it was stupid of him not to stall, no one will claim it's for "sportsmanship" Just like in the NBA, if a team didn't stall with less than 30secs on the clock and a 2 point lead, everybody would call that a stupid ass decision.

It's 50/50 lmao. It's not sure that Magnus would win the last match. The points were 14.5-12.5 which means that Hikaru won more games so it's not unthinkable that he will win another. It's stupid to think that players should go all out when they are already winning 🤣. By stalling the time it was a sure win. In chess terms, it was check(get an early lead)... And mate(maintain that lead).

If Hikaru didn’t stall, i will definitely say he’s stupid. Which option will you choose: 1. You’re leading and can end the match and win it. 2. You’re leading and can end the match and win it, but decided to risk it by giving a chance for your opponent to catch up.

Why do people complain about Hikaru running the clock. It's like many other sports. You can run the clock in soccer, American football, basketball, boxing, everything. No one bats an eye because that is a valid tactic. Use the clock to your advantage, and Hikaru did just that.

MAGNUS played his best ever but HIKARU beat him. Hikaru took advantage of every opportunity that came his way including using the time to his advantage. This is a display of astute strategy showing that winning is not only about scoring high but preventing the opponent to catch up by wasting the time in his favor and not giving his opponent a chance to play one more time. That is brilliant. Magnus was given the opportunity to win when he tied the game with still a lot of time for him to take the lead and the momentum is on his side. But Hikaru was able to neutralize him and even score one point more. This proves that in this game, Hikaru is the better player and he deserves to be crowned as the champion of Speedchess 2022.
