Magnus effect is hard on Hikaru. Hikaru is always shooting for barely winning against Magnus every time they play a match.

When the last history of chess is written this quote is going to go down as one of the greatest ever: "Magnus isn't that great a defender [as Caruana and myself] but that's because he almost never gets himself into bad positions" !!!!!!!

nah buddy, its a fraud knight, if he took that knight he would lose in an instant. So at GM levels, this tactic is so easily spotted, that hikaru already saw his defensive moves, and with these moves involved he got a free pawn.

re 16k: a lot of people whom enjoy chess do not know of Hikaru' presence online. I only became aware of the you tube chess matrix recently... early this year in fact.

Hikaru loses rating every week in Arena Kings, so depending on the day of the week his rating can fluctuate by around 200 points. It's all over the place.

To be honest even I was able to spot Qh3 instantly 😅, but this is how Magnus effect works.

*spoiler alert * hehe Turned out to be a good decision to go for the draw in the last game. He did have a better tiebreak than Bortnyk and the #4 Frenchman (who is he again?), but he forgot Nihal himself who would also have ended up at 9/11 with a potentially better TB🤓

I don't know about y'all, but I just learned a lot from how he handled the loss to Magnus. I think Hikaru still beat himself up too much, and not from a playing standpoint... I think that Hikaru needs to rephrase how he speaks about his own performance. I think he's still quite chill about it, but I think avoidance of that level of criticism is better for any human.
