Lucy Olson helps Iowa fill the Void left by Caitlin Clark as they Build for the future

It is not easy for a program to lose a generational player but it looks like Iowa is doing a good job or as best as you could hope in moving on from Caitlin Clark. The are currently doing better then some other programs that have lost starts. We take a deep dive on the impact of Lucy Olson on Iowa roster this season.

In my opinion it is not just replacing Caitlin Clark, but replacing Gabbi Marshall and Kate Martin will be no easy task either. Those two were an integrical part of the lineup.

This is not just an Iowa story. It is also great news for the strength of the Big Ten. Having Lucy and Juju in the conference reduces the influence of the SEC, ACC, and Big 12.

Great move to get her. Wish Coach Bluder can get 6'5" or taller good post player in transfer portal

Great move for both parties. She’s a bucket for sure and can continue to be the primary scoring option. She’s gonna have to improve her assist numbers, tho.

Tough to fill caitlin's shoes, but great for Iowa as it shows players want to go there

They still have Stulke and Afoltter, Taylor McCabe will take Gabby Marshall's spot and while on defense she will need to step it up to match Marshall she may actually be an upgrade in shooting as she is likely the best shooter on Iowa (including Clark , she just does not have logo range and does not usually shoot off the bounce) McCabe shot 46 percent from 3pt line this year and 41% as a freshman and one coach said she is the best set shooter she has seen. McCabe arguably should have played more but Iowa leaned on its Seniors hard as they were better on defense than the others and had better chemistry. The real question is who steps up in Kate Martin's spot which was a very big deal. If they can find someone to do what Martin did and Stulke, McCabe and Afoltter all progress and get a little better with Olsen they may still be a top 25 team.

The problem won’t be so much replacing Clark’s scoring as replacing her passing

Will be interesting to see what happens to her numbers going from a slow team in Nova to one of the fastest paced teams in Iowa. Don't be surprised if she puts up something like 28-30 points per game.

love your unbiased knowledge of these teams. Beers committed today to UCONN so athletes are wary of the LSU drama...although I suspect that Angel was toxic (don't at me...if you don't recognize the signs of a toxic women, I don't know what to tell you) and with her gone, LSU culture will improve. Flu'jae is great player with great energy.--she will show out next year.

That's a good move for Iowa, if not so great for the Big East. It also moves Lucy to a major conference and lets her shine (I think she will; you don't get the number three slot in all the NCAA because you're playing in a comparatively weak conference.) I don't mind saying I'm glad we don't have to play her twice a year, and again in the tournament, now. She'll be tougher to handle now, I'm thinking.

lul: "JuJu is a tough match up for them". Talk about stating the obvious. JuJu is a tough match up for everyone, she'd be a tough match up for a WNBA team. She is seriously a woman amongst girls, just a beast.

Olsen was the closest thing to Clark that was available, so Iowa hit a home run by getting her. The problem for Iowa is that they have no more scholarships to give, and still need a big. Stuelke has problems when she goes up against players with a height advantage. Iowa is still missing that critical piece.

Lucy leaving nova was a surprise though. She seemed nothing but happy there. I think she just saw the trajectory of the big east conference and looked at the exposure on FloSports and realized she needed to make a move.

Excellent pickup by Iowa. I always knew that she was pretty a prolific scorer but didn't realize that she had had such a jump in production in her last year that Villanova. Her presence at Iowa would make them one of the top teams in the Big 10 behind USC, UCLA, and Ohio State especially if Kiki Iriafen goes to USC. They should be competitive nationally too based on the incoming recruiting class etc. Happy to see she didn't go to LSU. Too much unnecessary drama etc.
