Will the Fever Bring in Lisa Bluder to save Caitlin Clark from Christie Sides?

Спорт

Thank goodness Caitlin Clark is in the WNBA and can be coached by Cristie Sides to take long two point shots.

EVERYONE couldn't believe it when Sides publicly stated during the press conference that she wanted Caitlin Clark to take "long two's". While she's at it, Sides should tell Caitlin to "sleep after every meal" or "go into the woods without using mosquito repellent". Sides is crazy.

Kinda both... hitting a long range transition 3 bomb can certainly help rally your team with a big boost of energy.. but miss them too often (if someone else is wide open below) and it can have the opposite energy-sucking effect. If you are coaching the best long range shooter in women's basketball history.. perhaps as a team... you get everyone to buy into the idea of letting her shoot and chasing the long rebounds so you can win games using her exceptional range (which opens up the inside game). Fever needs to adjust to make use of this exceptional tool... as much as Clark needs to sort out how to get her fellow players involved. Time will help this, but a change in team attitude is probably more important.. hopefully Coach Sides can figure this out.

Caitlin does not need Lisa Bluder to get the most out of her. Caitlin is not the problem. The problem is these other players are not in shape to run the floor at a high pace. The Big 3 ladies over 6'3" cannot get up and down the floor. Boston does not know the playbook. Caitlin is constantly waiting for Boston to get to the spot. One play she went the opposite way and then started to circle around. Caitlin just went away from her and through up a 3. Caitlin cannot start a fast break and anticipate where the players is suppose to be. They never get there. Caitlin is frustrated because these women are not as dependable as her Iowa teammates were. They were all out all the time. AB was so tired the other night she could not do basic screens to free Caitlin.

Kevin Simmons posted one of the best responses on this topic: As my high school coach had once said to me, "Pressure can either create a diamond or it can bust through a solid metal pipe, and it's absolutely no different when it comes to human beings" And I accepted right then and there, his challenge to decide which way I would play. There is immense pressure at this time on Caitlin Clark. And It's starting to show. And It's actually coming from both sides. On one side, there is the pressure that comes with the expectation of greatness. On the other side, there is the constant unrelenting pressure of meeting those very lofty expectations. And it's beginning to show on her. We all go through it. When Diana Taurasi said publicly that things were about to get much more difficult because these are grown woman who are doing this for a living, and that there are levels to this game, plenty of people jumped all over her for that. They painted her as arrogant, mean spirited, and jealous. But they left out the most important part. That she was absolutely right. Due to the constant belittling and total disrespect of the league as well as its talent, those who haven't actually watched any games, really didn't know just how good these women really are. But they now are finding out. Does Caitlin Clark have a target on her back?? Most definitely, and the disrespected players of this league have their sights aimed directly at it. As well they should. Just like Bird, Magic and pretty much every other college star had on them when they turned pro. It is what it is. Caitlin Clark is now going through the classic adjustment period that all of us face whenever we are presented with a new challenge in life. And this case, she is doing it with all brand new teammates and coaching staff on just 2-4 weeks practice, right after playing in college. So I, for one, honestly think that she will eventually adjust and will end up doing just fine. But for those people who were calling her the GOAT 🐐 before she even played one WNBA game. Or even thought that she would easily dominate the league from day one, you have really done her a serious disservice. Your total and complete lack of knowledge or respect for the women's game has only made it worse for her. But now that the league finally has earned your undivided attention. Please feel free to watch and respect the OTHER great talents that have been in the league for quite awhile now, and while your at it, all the other rookies coming in as well. There's is plenty of room for that too!!!!

More long 2s is an insane thing to say in 2024! Clark is pressing early on, and I severely underestimated just how much the vets in that league resented all the attention she's getting. Her defenders are staying really close to her no matter where she's at and they're reacting aggressively to every move she makes. If she manages to beat her primary defender, someone else is helping immediately and aggressively. Teams are definitely trying to send her a message. She'll eventually start getting rid of the ball quicker when help comes and back cutting off the ball to counter the pressure. If her teammates are smart, they'll start cutting to the open space when their defenders are focused on her. She's shown that she can create space at that level for those off the dribble 3s she likes, and she's made some great passes. Although her scoring was worse against NY, she played way more under control in that game than she did against CONN. She'll be fine.

If the Fever had a GM or owner with any vision, any vision at all, Bluder would have been hired before Clark was drafted. But irrelevant franchises with a history of complete and utter incompetence don't have the brains to connect the dots. Besides, this team is so bereft to talent that it would take any coach months if not years to turn it around.

Coach Sides won’t last past the Olympics break! The WNBA can’t afford for Caitlin Clark not to have her Stephen Curry moments of shooting about 25 to 30 shots a game-and yes I’m talking about launching 3$-which is her money shot and what the fans wants to see out of Caitlin Clark this year! Nobody cares if the Fever has a winning record in Caitlin Clark’s rookie season. Anybody that has coached or played basketball on any meaningful level knows it take more than three practices for a team to learn each others strengths and weaknesses and where they like to receive the ball at or the floor. If I were the coach of the Indianapolis Fever I would run the Paul Westphal offense (just run and gun and try to out score the Fever’s opponents!) Then during the offseason the Fever can work on their defense- and offensive sets…But, for this year… can we please turn Caitlin Clark loose and let her run the same offense she ran at Iowa-that worked… Iowa made it to back-to-back NCAAW Championship games! Therefore, the style of basketball Caitlin Clark needs to play has been time tested and proven. And I know her teammates won’t have a problem playing the Paul Westphal style of offense because of Caitlin Clark’s passing ability they would be getting a lot of layups and wide open spot up jump shots and 3$! Enough said…Call Coach Bluder so that she can show the WNBA fans would CC can do in Paul Westphal’s Run and Gun offense! The WNBA can’t afford to mess this up because as Eminem said-in “Lose Yourself…Look (WNBA you [have] one shot or one opportunity To seize everything you ever wanted in one moment, Would you capture it or just let it slip? Yo” (credit for the Eminem reference goes to “Behind the Line” podcaster. So come on WNBA owners of the Indiana Fever get Caitlin Clark and the rest of your Indiana Fever the coach they need or else you will [lose your fan base and that of the WNBA’$] or to quote Eminem - “Lose Yourself!”

She does have to take more midrange shots, it can't be all iso 3's, off ball 3's and layups. If Clark is suppose to be this unstoppable scorer she has to score at all 3 levels and score in a variety of ways. She obviously is going to have to get better to do that and coaches should look to develop and improve her skills. Coaching can't just be to give a green light for any and everyone to chuck a three whenever possible. She'll still probably take a crazy 400+ 3's this year if healthy anyway. Those "inefficient" scorers also carry outsized offensive burdens and are still some of the top non frontcourt scorers in the league. They also are top priority to guard for the opposing team; nobody lets them just shot because "hey their inefficient and my calculator says midrange isn't optimal" so just leave them open at midrange. That would be actual bad coaching. So acting like efficiency numbers are king is kinda a smart jargon way of passing dumb nonsense off as right. Efficiency doesn't equal actual impact on the game. Also analytics can never be proven "wrong" and will always rationalize backwards so scammers like morey can just blame bad luck and rng for everything. Like for example more and more nfl coaches (San Diego) go for clearly strategically stupid 4th downs, but claim that numbers support it or whatever. As if there is no psychology or emotion to sports. Like if you just look at whatever number is bigger why not have the computer itself be the coach? Thus the only issue can ever be we didn't chuck enough 3's, we took too many midrange shots, or it was actually" smart" to go for it on own 29, and you just double down.. miss 20+ 3's in a row say that's mathematically impossible and collect your paycheck anyway.

I think everyone knows that but given the 2 week off-season Clark had, and how trash the team is anyway... Let her go out and be comfortable in year 1. Design plays to help her build confidence and play her game. Allegedly these "Grown women" are supposed to be better than her IA teammates so theoretically her assists are more valuable than her points in year 1. Then in the off season, focus heavily on developing a floater and a mid range shot.

One thing that has become obvious - Christie Sides does not have CC's back. In fact, just the opposite seems to be the case. When any team drafts a player that they want to build their team around, they first need to make sure that they show confidence in that player to lead the team. Sides is basically trashing Clark which shows Sides has no confidence in Clark's ability to lead. Considering how much the Fever have invested in Clark, Sides days as coach are numbered.

It’s funny how people think CC is going to have success the same way she did in college. Ain’t happening. Michael Jordan functioned well in the triangle offense and that’s where he found consistency and championships. If the Fever hire Bluder for “Iowa ball” they will loose the rest of the team. Sides needs to make better in-game adjustments. The team looks elementary and that will get her fired. Critiquing a rookie making rookie mistakes, after a couple games is not the issue. There was a reason the Fever were picking first the last two years. Clark has to score a ton for that team to win. CC has to be a threat everywhere. Anyone can guard CC if they don't have to defend anything but the layup and and the 3. WNBA teams will just take away the 3 and funnel her to the bigs inside where she is at a disadvantage. BUT if she is a threat from mid range also, like her coach said, then CC can take over a game. All the coach is saying is that how she played in college will make her one dementional in the pros unless she is a threat to score from everywhere. right now she's not and teams don't have to guard you when you are in an area where you won't shoot and won't move off that spot. Boulder did nothing but roll out the ball and most CC do what ever she wanted for 4 years. She retired because now she was going to have to actually coach and was about to get exposed as a fraud.

The coaching staff should teach those players fundamentals. Caitlin should work with Boston so they can play pick and roll to a perfection. The other players are bums no talent. Coach is not the problem she will turn Clark loose, also I think the coach wants Clark to make those mediocre players better although I’ve seen more talent on grade schoolers teams. The Fever desperately need some solid free agents and 1st round draft talent in the ensuing years. I would evaluate players and cut most of them.
