    You need to do a rear disc conversion

  • @michaelgillie5208

    @michaelgillie5208

    5 жыл бұрын

    The Savage Garage Better rear disc conversion is using an astra coupe 1.6 rear beam can be picked up with everything you need except maybe a new hand brake cable which you would need anyway for the conversion. Save changing front hubs to 5 stud when no real reason to as its not a particularly fast car. 4 stud wheels with correct pdc and stud diameter are easier to pick up.

    They are progressive springs so the more it compresses the stiffer it gets hence more coils @TheSavageGarage

  • @EdgyNumber1

    @EdgyNumber1

    5 жыл бұрын

    Actually progressive wound springs are there to resist shock at different points in the spring, dependent on the frequency of the shock, ie whether multiple bumps or one large bump etc. For lowering in general, the springs will contain more windings regardless of progressive or linear. If you'd (theoretically) cut the original springs to the new shortened length, you'd have the same stiffness and the shocks would end up bottoming out at the lower height. Never cut springs because the ride will just be wallowy, crashy and trashy. Always get dedicated lowering springs from a reputable company. Ideally, always change the shocks and bushes too.

  • @StephenJohnson-jb7xe

    @StephenJohnson-jb7xe

    @@EdgyNumber1 When you say ideally change the shocks can you elaborate please? New standard shocks just because you have it all out anyway or new shocks specifically for the lower ride height?

    Great video as always. I know what springs they are. The only brand I would tend to go for as well mate. If you go for the pro kit or the Bilstein B6 shocks, they're apparently an awesome pairing. I think the SXi is a bit shorter than stock, (the SRi is even lower, to the point, it's probably not worth lowering unless they get knackered) Following is taken from automotive thinker on the coils:- "These springs are sometimes called variable Rate springs. The purpose of non-linear springs is to provide more compliance in the suspension over rough surfaces. These springs are designed with low initial spring rates but rapidly increase as the spring is compressed. The theory is that this allows the car to travel smoothly over bumps and road imperfections but still be tight enough to provide good handling and prevent the chassis from bottoming out. Because of this, these springs are popular in aftermarket lowering springs and coilover system intended for use on public roads. Variable rate springs are easy to spot because the springs are not symmetrical. Typically, one end of the spring is wound tighter than the other end with the more tightly wound end being the softer part of the spring. As the spring is compressed, the soft coils on the tightly wound side will collapse, coming into contact with each other. When this happens, the rest of the spring starts to compress at the second higher rate. Sometimes two separate springs are used at the same time with a special perch in-between them to achieve the desired effect. Depending on the design, many different curves are possible. Some of the possible curves could look like"

    Mate, good going on the videos! Just a heads-up for you, if you look back at your video & look at the strut bearing hat, you will see that you put it back in a different orientation to when you removed it. It is important to fit them back the same way (ie with the tab facing to the rear of the car) on both sides of the car as the bearing hat has an offset & will alter the alignment of the suspension. My interest in this is that I'm replacing the struts, bearing & top mount on my 2002 TS for the second time & have realised that I didn't pay attention to the positioning prior to removing the old one. Best of luck, hope this makes a difference!

    I had a similar problem with my astra not starting in the same manner, for me I diagnosed it to being that the connector at the back was loose and not only that whoever took my dash apart before put one wrong screw in the dials to secure them making it move slightly which I assume is what causes the connection to loosen through tiny vibrations, happened on my corsa too, once I put the connector back in properly on the back and tightened the screws with the right size, I never had to issue again, wierd 😂

    The springs are designed like that due to the dampening requirement. They are a little shorter so need to make up the shortfall by having a tighter coil which will mean stiffer ride. Car looks good. Perfect ride hide.

    As mentioned before if you have a Vauxhall, and you have a Windows laptop. Then a "VXDIAG, VCX Nano, GM" is the tool you need. 80 UK pounds, and comes with GM TECHII for windows. So you will have full TECHII facilities just like a Vauxhall dealer. Not only that but setup GlobalTIS and you can connect your car to GM online and update the Engine ECU, Gearbox ECU if an auto. Plus update the car audio, and screens / software, ABS, Airbag systems, Pair keys and more.
