    Hi James, happy new year to you. Regards the bonnet lifters, keep your original bonnet stay because in windy conditions it has a hook on the end to prevent the bonnet blowing back and causing damage /or letting it falling on your head when wind dies down. A lad next door learned the hard way with lifters and bent his bonnet in half . Best be safe than sorry.

    I've fitted the exact same bonnet struts on my Astra a while back and you didn't have to drill any holes. You could've just taken out one of the bolts from the wing out and used that hole. And I've seen many people fit them but I've never seen em been fitted upside down😂 By the way I think you bought standard struts for boots with no spoilers (430nm) you need 470nm struts which u can get on eurocarparts. A bit more pricier but they do the job properly and much better.

    My boot lid on my mk4 Astra does the exact same thing since I put on my GSI spoiler. Watching your Astra videos is giving me ideas for my car, eventually I’m planning on doing an engine conversion from the 1.6 to the 2.2

  • @cba360

    @cba360

    5 жыл бұрын

    Caitlin Henderson I wouldn’t go to a 2.2, a lot of hassle for minimal gains over the 1.8 which would be a straight fit. If you’re going to do an engine swap a zlet is only one to make sense. 2.2 has a lot of things different to the 1.6 so not easy swap

    Chris K I think I will stick to my original plan and swap to the GSI engine, my engine is pretty much done anyway and I would rather swap it out for something with more power if I’m going to spend the money on it Or my might not bother with my Astra at all and just buy a classic Impreza 😂

  • @cba360

    @cba360

    5 жыл бұрын

    Caitlin Henderson zlet swap involves full engine bay loom, dash loom, and floor loom swap which a breaker will sell to you for about £300. It’s a lot of work to change it all, not hard just time consuming. Easier to buy a GSi or a coupe turbo!

    Instructions say: 1. Remove the rear M6 bolt from the left hinge (A). 2. Mount the M6 x 20 ball stud there. (don't forget the M6 Washer!!) 3. For mounting to the wing you should use the original hole (B). Mount the M6 ball stud (with the big washer on the top side and the M6 nut and small washer on the bottom side) to the wing. 4. Remove the foam block that is attached to the hinge. 5. Mount the joints to the hood lift and remove the securing clip. 6. Mount the hood lift (with the cylinder facing up) to the ball stud (these should be mounted securely) 7. Put the securing clip back into the joints. 8. Repeat the steps for the right side. Sorry not a perfect translation from me...

    Dont uninstall the bonnet thingy. I got a '00 Lexus GS300 a month ago, which has these gas struts from factory, and they're shot. I wanted to clean the engine and replace fluids, etc, but i couldnt do it because the struts didnt hold the damn bonnet up. I had to put a piece of wood to hold it, LOL. If they fail and you dont have a replacement at hand, it's a PITA.
