Great fight. I forgot that Holyfield ripped his glove on Cooper's head. Cooper was a tough guy. I shake my head in amazement when I watched the number of punches that snapped Cooper's head back and he didn't quit or get KO'ed.

What a battle, Cooper had some great toughness. And Holyfield lived up to his name as The Real Deal. He’s one of my favorite boxers of all time, he always showed trendemous heart & had that never give up attitude in his fights. He was a true warrior in that ring.

Not one comment complimenting Lewis on his KO victory. (Sigh.) What else is new? This was Lewis at age 26, 17-0 record, in just his third year as a professional boxer, ranked #3 in the world, and he destroys Tyrell Biggs.

Just typical of the biased crap Lewis had to put up with from the US media. Unfortunately many were influenced by this as is usually the case most fans know very little about boxing and see what they are being told. Lewis was head and shoulders above his generation for some time before he finally got some respect. The combination of being avoided by the likes of Bowe and others and constant slagging from know nothing journalists like Wallace Mathews(some of those articles were beyond disrespectful and so petty and stupid, bearing no relationship to reality and not worthy of a Bowe fan boy comment let alone a senior boxing journalist)this garbage convinced a large section of the fans that Lewis was indeed nothing special. Even to this day some people think Bowe was the better fighter, yes the guy Lewis took out in the Olympics in 2 rounds who then scandalously broke a promotional agreement and mandatory defence by running from Lewis, dumping the WBC title before he was about to be stripped of it again causing the undisputed title to get split up. Eddie Futch was also very clear that he didn't want Bowe anywhere near Lewis. Even after the guy who battered Bowe into retirement was taken out in a minute and a half in his next fight by Lewis the same people rated Bowe higher and most were making Holyfield a strong favourite over him The number of comments we now see of people who look back on Lewis's fights and make the same comments along the lines of "I never liked Lewis much back then but having recently seen his fights, he was a beast" tell this shameful tale of what Lewis had to overcome and how easily people are influenced.

This was the time period where Lewis was just entering the scene as a legit TOP 10 heavyweight. Tyson had lost to Buster Douglas, and Holyfield was established as the undisputed champion. This was where the "torch" got passed from Tyson to Holyfield. Tyson's era of dominance had ended, Holyfield's was beginning, and Lewis was essentially "on deck" waiting for his turn to bat. It took a LONG time for these two guys to finally meet, but Lewis did everything he could to put himself in the #1 contender position and get there. It's too bad boxing politics had to delay it for so long.
