    you are 100% right, can you imagine if he had the speed and reflexes of Roy Jones Jr, same thing for RJJ if he had James Toney's chin he would of retired undefeated, incredible chin and skills, same case was for the Fabulous Four of the 80s, Leonard, Duran, Hearns and Hagler they were all greats and each one of them possessed specific skills that if any other of the 3 possessed they would of been the greatest of the 4 and the best all time in the division, Roberto "Hands of Stone" Duran was a tenacious boxer with a great chin, skills and endurance to last all 15 rounds swinging and the only 1 of the 3 to actually beat Sugar Ray Leonard at his best hands down by UD, gave Marvelous Marvin Hagler by his own words his hardest fight of his career and all he could handle for 15 rounds, Thomas "Hitman" Hearns, was 6'1 which is freakishly tall for the division, long reach, had devastating 1 punch KO power and the speed to make him all that more dangerous, he was able to give Leonard all he could handle and was winning the fight till he got caught, his reach and power proved to be a to lopsided advantage against the slower of the 4 Duran but his Achilles heal was his chin, which Hagler was able to exploit it after a couple of grueling rounds, he didn't have a bad chin just not an elite level chin, otherwise he would of beaten them all hands down, Marvelous Marvin Hagler was a bigger stronger version of Duran, and like him on your ass for 15 rounds straight beating you to a pulp if you even lasted that long, but like Duran he was notably slower than Leonard or Hearns, along with his stamina and skills, Marvelous Marvin Hagler had a rare birth defect that made him virtually KO proof, His Skull was several millimeters thicker than an average skull and in the later part of his career a Dr studying the brain scan noticed it, a few millimeters seems small but in actuality it was a huge difference, there is a liquid or a form of gel that occupies the space between your cranium and your brain, like in a car crash when there is a head on impact and you don't have a seat belt, your body continues to travel forward all the way to meet the impact with nothing to slow it down, less space between the brain and skull means the brain travels less and doesn't have enough time to pick up speed to concuss/KO, Hagler was never ever rocked by a punch, not even by Hearns thunderous bombs, if Hagler had more speed he would of been the greatest ever, Sugar Ray Leonard had perfect balance of the skills the other 3 greats possessed and that's why he was able to beat them all, the Hagler fight is a heated debate but I still think he beat him, never hurt Hagler at any point but definitely outpointed him, jeez, I just realized the book I wrote, sorry the point I was making is that we never get the perfect boxer, like in a video game with all stats at 100% and Boxing is a rare game of Rock Paper Scissor, I've also been around long enough to see a Champion dominate a division and then they fight a Boxer that has already lost to numerous Boxers that the Champ has already beaten and the Champ cant handle them, you never know what skill or implementation of a boxing skill can cause problems to even the most dominate of champions

  • @Gitfiddle

    I agree. Tommy had world class skills and a journeyman chin. He rocked Hagler a few times in the first round. I mean he got Haglers attention no doubt. But he also broke his right hand on Haglers cannonball of a head. And his legs looked like shit the whole fight. Story goes one of Tommys "friends" gave him a leg massage before the fight. Manny Stewart saw this idiot giving Tommy a rub down and he blew a gasket. A massage relaxes the muscles so Tommys legs were shot before the fight even started. And you can tell his legs looked like shit even in te first round. Who knows how that fight may have gone if Tommy didn't break his hand and get a damn leg rub. It may not have changed the outcome because Hagler was a monster but it would have definitely changed the fight.

  • @javiermigoya

    @javiermigoya

    7 жыл бұрын

    Jeffrey Haefner I will tell you one thing for sure, he cut Hagler pretty good and if Hagler hadn't gotten the KO when he did they might of stopped the fight because of it, the Dr had already looked at it, so Hagler was put on high alert, and you're right with Hearns's height, incredible reach, power and speed if he kept Hagler off for a few more rounds and just sniped him they would of stopped the fight, since were talking about Tommy, he would of destroyed Floyd Mayweather jr,in the 1st few rounds 3 tops because of how their skills compared by Floyd no having a significant power punch to keep Hearns honest he would of gotten KOed because of Hearns's reach and in my opinion the only one of the 4 greats that completely blows Floyd Mayweather jr away as in not even a semi competitive fight, Sugar Ray Leonard would of outpointed Floyd for a UD victory maybe Ko in the later rounds, and both Duran and Hagler although much slower than Floyd would of beaten him by UD because they were in my opinion both roughly the equivalent of a Marcos Maidana with superior boxing skills with and endless stamina tank to attack body and head

  • @Gitfiddle

    @Gitfiddle

    7 жыл бұрын

    You could be right. Tommy had that educated left hand. If he could stayed on his feet he'd of beat Leonard on points in that first fight. And I believe that left hand would have brought him the victory over a guy like Mayweather. You just can't counter punch a guy who's five feet away from you.

  • @javiermigoya

    @javiermigoya

    7 жыл бұрын

    Jeffrey Haefner Yes Tommy was a devastating puncher and finisher, too bad his chin wasn't on par with his other perfect boxing attributes, his power was so great that he was able to climb to light heavy weight, in the 4th round of the Pacquiao fight Floyd got hit with a straight right that staggered him back to the ropes where Pacquiao unloaded on him while he covered up and recouped, Tommy's straight would of come from practically a whole extra foot away, Emanuel Stewart talks about Tommy in a documentary as being a freak of nature and having the perfect skills and attributes for that division, although Tommy looked very skinny and lanky he perfected having the ideal distance from his target had the proper extension when he hit, that's something very hard to master for a tall boxer because shorter boxers are constantly closing the distance, Tommy used his speed and his long arms as a range finder to keep them at the ideal sweet spot for destruction, again if Tommy had an equally impressive chin he would of been the greatest ever no question about it, don't know if you knew this but did you know Tommy Hearns fought Aaron Pryor? you can watch it here on KZread its bad quality it's before they became pro, very competitive but when they became pros Aaron Pryor wouldn't of lasted long because he used to get hit a lot, although Pryor had that elite chin were talking about so who knows

    How in the hell was Toney who was arguably top 3 pound for pound at the time, the undercard for De La Hoya who wasn’t even a world champion yet. SMH

    James Toney was the greatest in his era, on this fight Kevin Kelly was a very dangerous opponent. But J.T. finds a way to end the fight by knockout. (Respect for both fighters).
