Learning about your brain's alarm systems and what to do

Human brains for all their complexity essentially do two things: 1. detect patterns and make predictions about the world inside and outside of us; and 2. monitor our inner word and send us alarms if things go outside parameters so we can do something about them. In this video I show you some ways to better understand these normal and useful (but unpleasant) alarms and how to use that knowledge to take better control of your anxiety.
If you have any questions, write the in the comments and I'll do my best to answer.

Thanks so much for all of the videos you upload. After they helped me fly relatively fearlessly for the first time in five years (early last year) I’ve made an effort to watch one every few weeks. Hadn’t seen this one yet. I’m itching to fly again so I can get some real practice again - hopefully later this year.

Dr. Posen, I just discovered your videos through Tom Bunn of SOAR, and your approach really strikes a chord with me. I have approached flying through my entire life (I'm 70) by using safety measures and avoidance techniques (especially using drugs to safely knock myself out), and I find that this method is starting to fail to stop anxiety and I will end up giving up flying altogether. Thank you for your insights and I will continue to watch and try to practice what you suggest.

Hi Sanford, did you catch my interview with Tom the first Wednesday of March - there will be a recording floating about soon. The more you watch and find ways to practise the ideas the videos contain (literally throwing out your safety behaviours and enduring the unpleasant but not harmful discomfort) the closer you'll get to flying well.
