Lars Explains | Tesla Vehicle Safety
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Engineered with an all-electric architecture, Tesla vehicles provide a very low probability of rollover risk and occupant injury. Lars Moravy, VP of Vehicle Engineering at Tesla, explains why.

I was involved in an accident about a month ago. The model 3 we were driving hit an 800lbs engine that someone dropped on the interstate at 80MPH. The driver and I only walked away with a few scratches and the car was totaled. These cars are definitely safe!

@Muskar2

@@richarda3659 All automakers want to make safe cars, sure, but even though virtually all cars are very safe today, Tesla still updates their car designs much more often than legacy automakers (because Tesla is much more vertically integrated) and have a higher degree of crash data than what I expect most legacy automakers have. I know legacy automakers also collect crash data silently too, but I'm not sure it's as detailed or to similar degree. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if many automakers specifically design their safety for the official crash tests, rather than for statistical data of real life crashes.

In a Tesla.. yes.. and a few EVs.. seen the front of the german made EVs? Or the Koreans? They fill all that space with other components now.. cause they don’t know how to design and produce cleverly engineered packages that reduce all that stuff in size.. now, they can and do design all that extra shit to also crush and go under the car.. but it’s far less efficient a build, and I suspect less effective.

Any car maker can buy a Tesla, tear it down, and try to copy it but why don’t they do it? It’s because of cost of scale. There’s no way other legacy car makers can copy the way the castings are manufactured at the same efficiency (cost and time) as Tesla.

Why would they do the work for their competition?
@cybergigafactory
Жыл бұрын
@@Ample17 Thats a valid criticism. But they have opened most of their patents to their competition as well. The only metric that counts for Tesla is "Pace of Innovation". IMO they could show every detail of their current cars, because in a month/year or so, it would be changed again to be better than before. The mission of Tesla is, to "accelerate the transition to sustainable transport" and they should help everyone who wants to build safer cars, in the case of this video. And also help them to build better electric cars for the acceleration of the transition. The competition cant copy much without their culture and vertical integration. Sure, as a capitalistic investor, it would be much better to hold everything closed up like everyone else does it but maybe this is a great rolemodel for new companies to build a better world for all of us, not only shareholders of a company. As an investor in Tesla I am not worried at all. Maybe if any OEM or startup would write their own OS for their factories and/or they would test all their cars like Tesla does and makes changes daily even possible. But I dont see that for now.
Thanks, Lars, for the clean and clear explanation. All these informative videos are really helpful and appreciated.
