Thanks for the shout out on my M700.. One thing to note is the way back in the '90, when you were still riding big wheels Tick😉, the handle bars were typically 550-600 mm wide. That's why the cockpit looks so tight. The bars made it super easy to switch up your grip while climbing hills. Like all my bikes, the M700 has seen a few additions since I sent in that picture.. it's now has a 3x9 drive train , newer 670 mm riser bar, Magura hydraulic rim brakes.. It's still a super comfortable and relaxing bike to ride..

You can go 27.5 front, 26 rear, and get a longer travel fork on that won’t over slacken the back end, aaaand get 165 or 160 cranks. Look up Hardtail Party’s video about getting experimental with crank lengths. You might really like the 160. Hope your crash doesn’t keep you off the trails! Great video.

Something to think about… and I think it’s way more applicable to motorcycles… if you have a smaller rim and a bigger/taller tire, you can end up with the same rolling distance… and this may be what others are mentioning. It would be interesting to measure the diameter/height of a 29” rear wheel with tire and to compare the diameter/height of the 27.5 with the 2.8 tire to see how different they are. There are rolling distance calculators online as well if that would be of interest. I have a handle on all the parts for my build now, and can’t wait to get it together get some pics and video. Cheers guys!

From viewers rides, Shimano Biopace were not quite oval if I remember right, but it was ovalish for the same reasons. Helps avoid dead spots at the top of the stroke. I guess it was not appreciated that much because it only lasted a few years.

I guess we found out why we might want to keep the geometry the same for dirt jumping ! maybe ok for steep downhill, where the extra slack head angle will help balance. that was an awesome shot of you coming off the bike. have you considered recording at 60fps on sunny days like this where the light usually washes the image out? that stack in slomo would be sweet haha

Dang that looked like a hard crash, glad you're ok, brother 😳 I've only been able to get mine on trail the one time a few weeks ago, been dealing with a few semi serious spider bites since the day after that ride since. Those (5 total) are just about gone finally, and now for the last 4 or 5 days I've been dealing with Shingles (omfg I'm just about sick of itching and burning by now! 🤷♂️🤣). As always I loved the viewer's rides, awesome bikes! I agree, 1992 was a great year...I finally came home from 9 months in Saudi Arabia (for ODS), and married that sweet woman who's sitting in there watching Netflix as we speak (still married to her 😉), thanks for making me feel old, roflmao 🤣🤪 I think I now have all the parts I want to put on my Aggressor Pro on hand now, just need to get to where I can get out to shoot the footage for a 1 year review video before putting them on, and got a few parts in for the Trouvaille that I'll install just as soon as I shoot the footage for an initial review video as well. Anyways, awesome video, guys, hope y'all are well and had a great weekend 😊✌️

Thanks for sharing brother, 👍 love the story of the wife and she needs to be watching some Wolftick!! LOL Glad you enjoyed and man, hopefully you heal up well. Spider bites are no joke!!
I think cuz a lot of the pivoting happens on the front axle because when you go heels down you are actually quite a bit below the front axle meaning you have to pivot so much more to get the rear axle even with the front and that's only now when they're even you have to go so much for other now to make the rear axle get higher
That front fork is heavy and the rear is light.... I would work on the balance of the bike. loved the song btw

Question. This bike or the m1x11??? I found an m1x11 for $350 locally used but in new condition.
The bigger the wheel the faster and smoother the ride. A motorcycle can get away with a smaller back wheel because it drives the bike, a bicycle is a gravity machine and performs best with same size wheels that roll identically over obstacles.

14:53 In my experience saddle that far means the saddle rails will bend, at least with Chromoly rails. The chainring is very big, how fast is she going? 60 or 70 KM/H more maybe? or does a xc bike need that high gearing despite being a 29er? light rider maybe? I've only mulleted 26er bikes with 27.5 fronts Only real difference I've ever experienced were.. 1. Rear is more lively 2. Frontend pops up on climbs, so needed to mitigate that issue by leaning over bars more. Half if second issue was fork travel.. Went from 125mm 26er to 140mm 27.5 That probably works out to a simulated 160mm with the A/C ? Measurement I should of did a 100 or 120mm 27.5 fork

Thanks. I bought some pedals and recently saw a video of you replacing some crank arms to 170mm I might be doing this as well as I'm only 5'7" . I saved the link you have from the video. Since money is tight. But I'm really grateful for the videos and the stuff I'm learning from you guys. I appreciate the no BS reviews coming from real people. 👍
Do you know if I can put some shimano mt200 brakes?

Yes. They would be awesome on the Trouvaille!
9:33 that trick there was risky, you landed with the front wheel turned. I heard in the beginning your rear wheel was still at the lip of the jump, you might be right, it might have contributed to the crash, but you did not return the wheel to straight position. I've managed to do the bar turn thing mid air when bunny hopping, low of the ground, but and tilt my bike too. But I was used to my bike.

So, overall, didnt sound like you liked the handling characteristics of the mullet! I really like mine, i feel lke the bike just turns and follows the front wheel really well.

Man not that I did not like it, but it was hard to handle. I've got to get some more seat time for sure.

19:40 bullhorns equipped with odi grips, brilliant. And those thumb shifters are brilliant too. I just built a 1993 mongoose iboc and have a old deore thumb shifter and I enjoy it a lot. Just like when I was a kid.

Even thought I don't have them still on the bike.. I still have them.. I've kept pretty much all the original parts for the bike.

I have no clue what you two are talking about 🤣🤣 Glad there were cameras back then 😉😉😉
You know Van Girl Yuka and other MTB youtubers list all their patrons at the end of each video. Maybe you should consider this as a way to get more people interested in the Patreon page?! The fact I would be promoted thru every one your vids since I'm a Patron has nothing to do with it!!! 😅⚓👍

Im happy but dont be blaming your crash on the mullet. If you had a larger wheel it may have been worse. You're just used to the smaller Ardor frame is what I think happened. Don't give up on the mullet just yet, the majority of the MTB community can't be wrong.

Mullet: a hairstyle best avoided. Also a bike wheel setup best avoided??? Is there more to come on the bike mullet verdict?
