I don't think one has to be a pro to wear these for a marathon. For many years, amateurs used to wear racing flats with much lower stack height than these for marathons.

Yeah, high stack carbon shoes are fun for half marathons and marathons. But I ran a half marathon in a pair of Rebel v4 and they felt good the whole run.

Yes, but I remember how my feet felt after those. Even after running a PB in the Saucony Type A 6, I never wore them again for the marathon. There are plenty of options out there now where my feet don't hurt at all after 26 miles.

@@runnin3216 I can't remember what my feet felt like after running in racing flats back in 2006 (Asics Hyperspeeds). I'm sure there was some discomfort. But I can live with that. I don't expect my feet/legs to be completely comfortable after a marathon, nor do I ex.pect any shoes to be able to do that. By all means, wear what you want What I don't agree with is this idea that a pair of shoes can't/shouldn't be worn for a certain distance, that only certain shoes can be labeled "marathon shoes."

Perfect overview!!! I'm a lightweight, forefoot striker. If NB comes out with some other colorways before fall, I'll definitely run a marathon in this shoe. While I love a 40mm stack of foam, its really not needed to go 26.2 for sure.

I plan on using the Pacer v2 for my next half. I use Rebel v4 as a daily trainer and have taken it on a 16 mile run. I'll take the similar stack height plus the added plate.

Great review and thanks for explaining the NB line-up! I have V1 and love it as a quick, low-profile shoe and as a nice comparison to the Rebel. Just wish V2 wasn't €200!

I'm glad they more or less kept the upper how it was on the v1. You can feel the air pushing through it! Have you gotten to play with the new features from the latest Final Cut update? Some good stuff in there.

I see people running HM and even some full with less. I think this shoe is going to be perfect for someone who wants save money but have a good race day shoe. Tbh I think this will even step on some of the elite sales.

This is a bit of a head scratcher for me. At 120lbs I sometimes feel like I can’t activate the foam in the higher stack marathon racers completely and might get along better with something like the SC Pacer 2. 🤷

Exactly what I am thinking for myself. I'm going to give this shoe a try and hope to run a fall marathon in it!

Whether you can use these as a marathon racer will probably depend on whether you have the spritely, low body weight of a professional racer like Emily. For speed day I already trade off between the TS9 and DNE1. Still. The SCEv3 is my all-time fave shoe, so I wouldn't mind adding this to my stable -- if I can get it for cheap.

Hope you can review the Alphafly 3 soon. It feels like a good improvement over Alphafly 1.

great overview.., I can see this being very segmented for ppl still kinda competing and those running at the HS, JuCo, and collegiate levels. Also track work, if you don’t want spikes, as Mike said. That and lighter runners such as Emily

I got the SC Pacer v1 for my middle school daughter to race the 800m and 1600m last year, and she loved them.

It is a beautiful colourway. Random question but: since turning pro Shoetuber has your running stride changed? Were you heel strike and now off the forefoot?

These look so much like an upgraded/tweaked NB PVLSE V1. I'm really enjoying those but no one talks about them 😅 For slow people like me, these would be placed below my Rebel V4s as the speed/short distance shoe 🙃 While these SC Pacer 2 and SC Elites are for fast people (that are not me) 😁

One question please! Is the pacer's midsole as soft as the other models you showed, or is it at least a little firmer?

I really want to get these. I love my rebel v4 and sc elite v4s but the drop at 8mm makes me nervous. I have issues with 7mm+ drop typically and have found 4-6mm is the sweet spot. Is the drop noticeably more significant compared to the rebel which I think is 6mm? Also what’s the room in the toe box like compared to the rebel and elite v4?

I guess it all comes down to what your body has adapted to. Nowadays all shoes are so cushioned, I personally prefer minimal cushioned shoes, bear in mind I've raced half marathons in Saucony Fastwitch and I'm of slight build and also love the Asics Metaracer I've had to get my body used to the bigger shoes lol 😀

This seems to be New Balance's answer to Asics' Magic Speed 4. Would you do a comparison maybe in the future after you've had some more time with them?

Just ran 5k in them. Felt fast in them and managed to get same pace with less effort. It is snug for me with the same size as other NB shoes. But I guess if I am not running long with them it shud be okay for sizing.

Would the magic speed be one of the comp shoes, or no longer since they added so much to the stack?

How is the plate placement? Was the increase forefoot stack more above the plate or below?

As someone who already has a SC Elite v4, does it even make sense to get the pacer? I do run 10ks occasionally and was just going to use the elite v4 for 10k and longer races

@@kofuzi thanks! For someone with a slightly wide foot (regular Superblast is fine, but struggled with things like the Boston 12), think it’s worth getting the wide or is it decent as-is? Rebel worked fine in the standard D fit.

Hey everyone... I've got a question about walking. Ive started my weightloss journey 2.5 months ago from 250 pounds now down to 220 at 5.11". I do strictly walking about 5to6 miles per day to spare my joints. For now i have been using the Adidas Adapt 5 with cloudfoam but the sole is starting to wear out quite substantially. I clocked in about 150miles per month. I am considering to get the Novablast 4 since i like the design and it seems to have a lot of cushioning. Any suggestions about alternatives for daily walking? @@dragonxx444 Here are a few options: • Hoka Bondi 8 • New Balance Fresh Foam More v4 or v5 • Asics Gel Nimbus 25 or 26 - the Novablast works, but the Nimbus has a little more cushioning.

Everything I've seen on this shoe shows 100% PEBA midsole.

I find it strange that the sc elite v4 is the only shoe that comes in 2e width which isn’t part of their fresh foam lineup

Would the Pacer 2 work for over pronators?

I always have a difficult time answering questions about whether a shoe will work for an overpronator, as I feel like there is a gigantic spectrum of what people envision when they are discussing overpronation. I'd only be willing to go so far as to say that, if the over pronator you are referring to is still able to run in most carbon plated racers, then I think this too would work. but if most carbon plated shoes don't work because the runner might need more medial heel support, then I think these will similarly not work.

I have both and for feel and ride I'd prefer the Pacer 2 but for turn-over and speed I'd prefer the Takumi Sen 10...The Takumi also feels much lighter and nimble than the Pacer 2...so It's really close!!

I can say that although I have never tried NB, it feels like the TS 10 really wants you to move in them like it "forces you" to move faster (keep up with the pace of the shoe) and get the best out of them-I just use them for training and 5k's plus but not 10k's. They are fast and light and nimble but I can't speak for the feel vs. NB.

as I explained in the video, the documentation I have from New Balance indicates "made with PEBA" The rationale for my uncertainty is that some models, such as the Rebel v4, are "made with a PEBA/EVA blend". And I think that it's too oblique to use a phrase such as "made with PEBA" instead of the more direct and equally succinct "made of PEBA" or "100% PEBA" or "pure PEBA" That being said, other contemporaneous documentation that I've received from New Balance consistently uses the phrase "made with PEBA" for shoes that I understand to be pure PEBA, such as the SC Pacer v2 and the SC Elite v4. and when a shoe does not have pure PEBA, New Balance uses the phrase "made with a PEBA/EVA blend" I hope this clarifies my position. If it doesn't, then you understand my hesitancy with what New Balance is putting out.
