As a disabled person the narrative “I don’t let my disability stop me” is so harmful. Sometimes you need to let your disability stop you for your own health and safety. Plus saying that may encourage others to push far past their limits, something I’ve learned the hard way MULTIPLE times. The treatment of all the kids is disgusting but the treatment of sick and/or disabled kids is barbaric.

Like each disability is different and has its own limits and even if you share a same disability, you might can deal with it differently than the other person and cope with it differently. It's such a damaging statement and just is used to exploit disabled people. Like sure, don't let it stop you which is why accomodations are being made to help those with different disabilities, but don't let it kill you and dance through a bleeding ripped open wound and such

Not really. Yes it's used by abusive parents. But it's also used my good people. It's hard telling my kids no, especially when it makes them so sad. But the flip side would be to give in to everything and that is a horrible parent. Sometimes, as a mom, I have to be tough when it's the best thing for my child. Now my daughter is almost 17 and we have an amazing relationship. Here's an example of my tough love with my daughter. When she was 11, she flirted with anorexia. I had that and know the damage it causes. I gave her an ultimatum. She eats at least one good meal a day and fruit throughout the day or I have her hospitalized and fed 5000 calories a day through a feeding tube. She eats. This choice is still in effect even though she knows no dr would feed her a 5k calorie diet a day. The other major deal breaker rule is she must stay in contact. If I try to call her and she ignores for very long, I'm going to get scared and she will be grounded. Is that tough love? In my opinion it is. Is that abusive? Absolutely not. Maybe you mean something other than this as tough love, but I think tough love (my definition of it) is crucial to being a good parent.

She finished her schooling when she was 15, I don't know what education program etc they used or if they used tutors as she got older. Jess has said that when they first started they set up an area to look like a traditional classroom and then after talking to other home school parents realised that it could look like whatever they wanted it to. Many specific things listed in this video that the XOM Pop girls went through are direct copies of what JoJo and the Dance Moms girls went through. JoJo alleged that she was more afraid to tell her mom that she didn't want to wear bows anymore than she was to come out to her. Lo and behold, Kinley was barred from abandoning the bows and ankle scrunchies by Jess and JoJo. JoJo also recalled a time where she was so exhausting from performing while deathly sick that she had to be carried back to the dressing room. Viola, Leigha also had to be carried back to the dressing room by her father because she was made to perform while tired and ill. History often repeats itself, but the specific way that it does in this case is almost poetic. It explicitly shows how JoJo is repeating cycles.

This is why I can never get too excited when people start praising a child prodigy. We don't know what's going on behind the scenes, and if they're being pushed too hard for their age. Health and safety NEED to come before everything else, pushing children to work before getting proper medical clearance is negligent at best.

100%, as someone who was a victim of childhood abuse, I have so much empathy for anyone else who lives through that experience. It's soul-destroying. It changes who you are as a person. It's something most people can't understand, and it makes you feel like a freak, like you're living in isolation because you can't relate to other people's normal. But even at my lowest, I knew that I would rather die than be like my abuser. To this day, I work with children, and I would die before I did to them what my parents did to me. You make the choice to be different. It's so sad to see Jojo choosing not to be, when she has so much influence and fame she could do such good with.

@@hnichole I think now that she’s moved away from her family she might start to get a realization. (Keep in mind my OG comment cause I’m tired and feel like I might word what I’m about to say as excusing her unintentionally) as a young teen it was literally a trend online for people to hate her, make fun of her etc. during this time she also largely only hung out with 1) her mom (who I’d call her main abuser) 2) Abby (her most public abuser) and 3) adult KZreadrs exploiting her for views because “Jojo from dance moms is on MY?! channel?”, and a fair number of these KZreadrs have been found to not have the best relationships with kids. If that was her support system while seemingly the world was on a hate campaign against her that’s gotta fuck up her feelings/thoughts about things. On that same note because of the hate I think everyone made her numb to any criticism coming from social media. I obviously do not know her personally so my opinion means less than Jack shit, but I do genuinely believe that Jojo is a good person who has not realized the harm done to her, and in turn the harm that she did/encouraged/allowed to happen to at least the ex members of XOMG pop. I genuinely really hope that her finally and legitimately being on her own will at least open the smallest crack, and then that crack might lead to her getting into therapy, and as unfortunately awful it would be for her, that the floodgates will finally open. Unfortunately no one can make her see the harm she’s done yet, because I truly don’t even think that harm she’s dealt with has even occurred to her yet. I just want to clarify again that I’m am by no means trying to excuse her of anything, I personally have unfollowed her and don’t have any plans to consider refollowing her unless those floodgates open (and I’m still debating where I stand with the actual XOMG accounts cause I want to support the kids but not those in charge of them). But for anyone who does still choose to follow JoJo, please remember what I said about how I think the hate made her numb to criticism from the internet. I’d definitely keep mentioning things, asking for a statement, etc. but at the end of the day legitimate hate I have a strong feeling is going to do way more harm than good.

In my country they aren't even allowed to have a paycheck of less then 4.31 dollars every hour (Age 15). From 18, you are getting 7,20 dollars every hour (Minimum). I get that Jojo’s childhood wasn’t all that great, but that doesn’t mean that innocent children, some with disabilities, should have to pay for your jam-packed childhood. On that note, children with disabilities shouldn’t be exploited for money. These are children, not pets. There are so many Dance Moms parallels that it’s insane. Dance Moms was toxic and abusive. Why would you want future generations to suffer the same thing? Personal opinion, but anyway I feel like they chose children with disabilities because they knew that they could control them to some degree.

It was obvious when they chose who the final girls were that they went with as much diversity as they could. Bella was eliminated early on and was suddenly in the group after the show ended. Speculation is that it was so that they could add on another diversity as they didn't have anyone Hispanic in the group (even had her sing some lyrics in Spanish in some of their songs).

She has NEVER BEEN entirely out of the shared-delusion of that a narcissist (here, her mother) makes you live in: one where She is always right, she is always a victim, ANYTHING you achieve had better be attributed to and in support of Her, and if you don’t meet these standards you are BERATED and taught to feel lucky just to get out of that abusive state;; YES the girls were “doomed from the start-“ like JoJo was doomed from the start (and Jess herself, was probably doomed from the start) because narcissists breed narcissists breed narcissists…

It was supposed to be a new project for Jess now that she didn't have to be on set with JoJo anymore. Watching the group there were so many things that they should have had sorted out before they formed the group that they were still playing with and changing even in the second year.

Is that Leigha from Alyssa's/Justin's Beyond Belief Dance Co.? Also, Jojo has clearly drunk the Kool-Aid and thinks that the treatment she faced as a child was justified due to the position she is in now. It is also reflected in her saying "that's just how the dance world is". That is exactly what people said about USA gymnastics until over 150 girls and women were in a court room giving victim impact statements. These discourses and narratives are so dangerous because they encourage children to stay (and parents to keep their children) in toxic or ab*sive environments.

Yes it is the same Leigha and as she said Justin is tough but not abusive. I am so glad for Leigha that her home studio is supportive.

just a quick clarification re: mall of america concert - MOA is in Minnesota, not Michigan. we have horrid winters and get waaaaay colder than michigan, its hard to breathe outside when temps are -30F (which is not as abnormal as it may sound), those girls are at no fault for having breathing issues if they were exposed to that and not acclimated to the ice-air. doesn't explain the nausea and throwing up (maybe poor care from the company?) but you absolutely dont want your lungs dealing with MN winter right before you have to go sing and dance your ass off like that. mine are freeze-burning just thinking about my lungs heaving in frozen air, not being able to consistently get enough oxygen through poor circulation due to the cold, and then having to go dance and sing a full show. the body often can't hydrate the dry cold air in those situations leading to constricted blood vessels and narrowed/tightened airways and lung spasms. i wish better for them.

It's so sad. Jojo's just replicating the abuse that she saw Abby dishing out. The way Dancing Pop Revolution was structured, with the inter-competition, the mom drama, etc. was basically Dance Moms 2.0.

And the cycle repeats itself, I knew this was gonna end horribly but I have like the slightest sliver of hope that maybe Jojo could break the abuse cycle in the entertainment industry and it sucks to see how she’s just adding to it.

I was watching dance moms a few days ago and Abby told Jess, she is raising a monster. I guess she was right! I also think Brooklyn and Dallas have powerful voices and you will never know because of those kiddy songs they sing. Being in that group is definitely hindering their careers.

@@Vell3rdw It is relevant to your last sentence of saying that you hope it doesn't hinder their careers. They all say that they want to be triple threats and I was saying that they have done other things. I have no way of knowing how much of their career that you have followed. There will also be other people reading these comments that don't know.

@amandamandamands it’s still not relevant to me or my comment I was literally talking about their singing careers I truly didn’t think I had to put singing careers because I was talking about their voices in the previous sentence What I was saying was being in that group will hinder their singing career because of the kiddy songs that they are singing

@amandamandamands All you said was they were on two shows and said they aren’t that bad I truly do not see how that connects to me saying they voices or not being showcase and singing those songs will hinder their careers context clues should’ve brought you to me talking about their singing careers not what shows they have been in and what’s not that bad the shows the songs the group what’s not that bad because if it’s the songs do you really listen to “sparkle sparkle sparkle pop” and think that’s a good

I don’t think “tough love” truly exists OR works as it’s supposed to, it’s just cruelty and in worst cases full on abuse. maybe you can get one kid to do what you want using those teachings but that’s because you are traumatising them into complying and not giving them the option to ‘fail’, they live every second with that pressure on their back they don’t have space or time to ‘do wrong’ or fall behind but just because you get the behavioural outcome you want doesn’t make what you’re doing any less abusive and wrong

We, as “fans” and viewers, need to hold ourselves accountable. Jess has made herself very clear in her mindset and dynamics way back since AUDC. She was clear she wanted fame, attention, etc, and was going to make sure Jojo was there along for the ride. Sure, some of it could’ve been edited, but the patterns were still evident. None of this is really shocking. Yet, some still wanted to continue to support Jess and Jojo despite all this… will this be when enough is enough, or are we gonna wait for more situations to occur?

JoJo is still friends with Abby, its no surprise JoJo is taking her qualities. She was exploited as a child both by her family and then Abby, no brainer that it influenced her in a bad way and she is doing the same to other kids
