    @@Notevendanithat’s the big thing for me. It’s not up to anyone else to tell Jojo how she should feel about her experience. If she doesn’t feel like she’s even a victim, then that’s where she is at. But on the other hand, she also shouldn’t dismiss or control the narrative of others’ experiences. She has been spoilt, she hasn’t yet failed, she hasn’t lived a normal reality, and her team has kept her in an echo chamber that she is the most successful person out there. I do fear that if she actually snaps, it’s going to be bad. If she keeps trying to prove she’s this bad girl, I do worry what lengths she will go to.

    This is a product of the abuses and trauma she went through, it happened with me when I was bullied in school and almost killed myself. These people hurt you so much and always tell you that your in the wrong you internalize it and start to hate yourself believing that your in the wrong. She's doing the same thing I did when I talked about these people, where I made excuses for them believing that I brought it on myself and that the people who hurt me were right about the things they said about me. It took a lot of time in therapy to change that mindset. While I don't know if JoJo went through the same thing, I see a lot of similarities and believe it's possible. I don't think her statements are as black and white as JoJo supporting her.

  • @JonahTV

    @JonahTV

    Ай бұрын

    Normally that would make me write her off too, but with this specific issue: 2 things. First, she's still SUPER young with very little life experience, and she still has time to figure all of that out, which she's going to need to do because Second, she grew up in a super abusive environment and unfortunately, the grooming issues of Colleen are probably normal for her (plus, cycle of abuse and all of that.) Obv, this wouldn't excuse her OWN abuse allegations, but I think it does give her a BIT (emphasis on "bit") of a pass to the question "How do you not see a problem with this??" I'll judge her off of her bad music and ego. As a general rule, I try not to judge people in their late teens/early twenties for association. I had shitty friends in college and didn't realize until years after they weren't in my life anymore. I say give her some time to step back and reflect, then go from there. That's where I am, at least. To use another example, I wouldn't hard-judge a 19-year-old Amanda Cosgrove if she defended Dan Schneider, but there is a limit to that grace period. I don't think we've reached the end of that period for JoJo, personally.

    The edgy and bad started with Smokin Jay Hawkins He was performing in caskets, hearsts , coffins and holding snakes, iguanas, spiders and other bugs while he performed in the 1930s-40s Then Chuck Berry, James Brown, Jackie Wilson, Grace Jones and Sylvester Of course then Michael Jackson, Madonna , Prince, Nene Cherry and Lady Gaga and Miley Cyrus The thing about all of them is they never apologized and owned it some even said "Fuck you" in their songs or performances And they never said they're "changing" the genre publicly Their goals was to not be limited by the standards As Michael Jackson said best "Art should NEVER be told what art is, it speaks for itself"

    JoJo Siwa is stuck between her past identity and establishing a new one. Real authenticity is key in this transition, and maybe she needs to find a middle ground that embraces her growth without entirely discarding her roots. The backlash might be a call for Siwa to find a unique path rather than to imitate others.

    I want to mention that your analysis of the Miley Cyrus comparison is maybe the first that I agree with. I have seen a number of these videos comparing Jojo’s attempted transition to Miley Cyrus as an example of what doesn’t work. And yes, as you acknowledge, there were problems, especially at that time. There were a lot of problematic things and backlash that she received, again, at the time. But retrospectively, Bangerz was a very successful album. Miley Cyrus is an objectively talented musician. She was authentic, and as you pointed out, she “did not care.” From a marketing and strategic perspective, while the short term seemed like a disaster, it was actually extremely effective in accomplishing the GOAL, which was to shed the child star completely. Not only did it do that, but it actually embedded the idea that Miley Cyrus had the ability to “rebrand” herself at any point. It provided a platform that said “yea, she can do this.” While she never did a full Disney to Bangerz rebrand again, she has still done it continually with every album, again, successfully. She went from Bangerz to bohemian pigtails with Malibu, and has somehow found herself here as a modern, high-fashion Joan Jett who shops at Chanel. It also helped that Bangerz was TRULY a deviation from her Disney persona. There were no vestiges of Hannah Montana in Bangerz Miley. She acknowledges her various stages now, as an adult, as important and key parts of her development and career, which includes Hannah Montana. But it was important for it not to be there for Bangerz to accomplish what it set out to do. And if anyone is going to compare this to Jojo Siwa, there are very clear differences that make it less of a similar example of a failure and more of an example of what Jojo’s attempt is NOT. Jojo’s song, singing, and performance are not even in the same realm of recently Grammy-winning Miley Cyrus, then or now. Jojo is being inauthentic and disingenuous, which is evident, hence the cringe. She is not owning the transition. She’s backpedaling and explaining and justifying. Also, despite what she may think, Nickelodeon Jojo is still very obviously apparently there. She is COVERED in sequins. It’s the same Jojo we’ve seen for her entire career, just with a different color palette. She had her 21st birthday at Disney. DISNEY! Is there anything that screams child-star more than Disney???? It’s Jojo with a “but.” “I’m wearing sequins, but they’re black!” “I went to Disney, but I drank alcohol!” (Which many of us do - by the way.) “I’m not a bad girl, but the song says it!” “I didn’t write any of the music, but I’m an artist!” "I've always had a car with my face all over it, but now it's images from my new song!" "All of my music videos feature choreographed group dances, but in this one I pelvic thrust too!" Also Jojo has literally shown us this before. The looks, the video, the color palette and costumes of Karma, the fake artistry. If you feel like it, look up "Jojo Siwa - Where are you Christmas" (I'm 100% serious. just watch it.)

    @ 9:30 fun producer fact - TIMBALAND is a verified plagiarist and has used other artists intricate MIDI scores without so much as Quantization/"chopping up"/transposing the other artists' work which is what is done in the industry. My favorite example is his "Block Party Ringtone" which has been mostly buried in search engines but he's a thief/clown. However, I have mad respect for Missy Elliot (who i believe carried him to where he is/was) I like that Patrick used "power chords" bc Karma is an exemplification of how NOT to use them. To me the song sounds exactly like kesha's first single when i started noticing (myself) that "people" gravitate towards certain progressions instinctually

    Her comment about her whole inner circle being excited about her doing the whole adult/sexual switch up when she was still a child, is highly disturbing to me. And when has becoming an adult artist become synonymous with sexual songs and themes?

    Thats just the classic Hollyweird programming. Everyone went through the same eyes wide shut textbook...Miley, Billie Eilish, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera...the list goes on. You are groomed to serve this demonic pimpin industry or you are out. Even the ones that started as adults get the turn...Katy Perry and Rihanna started out as wholesome christian singers and then we got "I kissed a girl" and "S&M".💩

    I guess she’s desperately trying to show that she’s an adult and not a child anymore. She wants everything ‘in your face’, the swearing and the humping, anything to rip off her identity as a child-friendly figure. Which, of course, didn’t work at all. She ended up looking like a child dressing up thinking this is how adults dress up.
