My theory is that she's actually very insecure (as shown by her actions in the webchat rooms, for example); and while she loves and lives for attention, she got sick of being loved for a fake image of herself - someone she isn't. So she swung the completely other way, renouncing beauty and femininity, in hopes of feeling more free and living more authentically, not realizing that this was also another artificially construed persona, and that her truth lives somewhere in the middle...

It is not difficult to understand why she constantly responds to her haters. She grew up reading and spending most of her time in internet chat rooms/social media, of course she's not going to be able to ignore and shake off the haters on the very platforms she's indulged in and craved attention from for years. Generally speaking, if someone doesn't care about what the haters say, then one wouldn't waste time responding to them nor making entire songs/albums about it. You move on, do you, and let the haters talk amongst themselves while you let your true fan base fight that battle for you. If you're confident in who you are, there's no need to explain yourself. There are people that aren't really made to be world famous and she is one of those. Her humor is almost like on edge, overly sarcastic and trolly. She is a kid of chatrooms and 4chan. I get her. She has always been interested in alternative fashion in all kinds. She was always a creative person. When she got recognized by people out of her tiny edgy circle, they simply couldn't get it. She is not made to please crowds from all over the world. I love her fashion sense and Scarlet era. I loved her in her Amala era too. Some things that she says are shocking even to me, almost like she forgets that the whole world is waiting for her explains over the new dumb things. She humbled her alternative sense around 2020-2021 to be a world known popstar but it simply didn't work for her because she has a different vision of art that is not supposed to be loved by the masses.

As a rock fan I feel a weird flashback to the late 90' and 2000' when some metal bands appeared with edgy songs / music videos to grab as much attention as possible and the theme was - yep - worship of the devil. It's funny that it works especially in countries with a high level of religious people (as far as I know USA is one of them) and in this case it's amazing that she went from girly pop artist your average 7-12 year old daughters follows to full blown devil impersonator - and again in an (maybe?) ingenious move this can really work. If her fans were just kids when listening to her pop albums they should be teens by now. And trust me - teens love listening and following artists that do shit like this. Been there - done that. So overall - good for her! As the video says - she might have scared some of her original audience ... BUT ... I would add that it could make her even more famous. Also I feel a parallel with Miley Cyrus would be appropriate - early career as child pop artist with nice feel good pop songs gradually advancing into sex themes all over. A natural career path nowadays and it needs to be more extreme because the audience is desensitized like a war veteran - after seeing all the crazy crap in the world you need even crazier acts in pop culture to stay ahead.

Doja clearly had enough of all the criticism she was receiving, and in the beginning she did everything for others and not herself. She wasn’t being herself. She was tried of people pleasing and didn’t care how people viewed her anymore. The only way she could kinda escape was to “scare” her fans away that only wanted to see the girly pink bubbly version of her which she wasn’t to begin with. So her getting “cancelled” and getting hate online was exactly what she wished for. Ultimately I think she wants to be left alone and just do her own thing with music. She made her bag, and she’s living the life she seemingly wants to live 🤷🏻‍♀️

It is the industry. You gotta push certain idealogies, nakedness, mental issues, darkness, abnormal behavior, and clothes , in order to get deals and success regardless of talent. Many of these artists, initially have no idea that they are being groomed into being the puppets designed to destroy the society. You know an artist has agreed to the "deal" when you see them all of a sudden blow up and everywhere, or sudden major comeback after a dying career spell for some time which is unexplainable. The moment they find out about things in the industry and step out of line, talk too much about God, that's when we starts seeing articles after articles attacking the artist , showing them having mental problems and if they artist still doesn't get in line then its blacklisting, or even deletion masked as self deletion following long "depression". Most are really mediocre talent, they just sing vulgar and get naked as they are told to do.

She was always odd and goofy and now when she shows more of that side people have extreme reactions while it's more or less how artists are really like in person. Right? If she wanted to do huge numbers, she could've just made Planet Her 2 and continued doing radio-friendly pop/R&B songs with big features, but she didn't. 0 features on this album, 0 outside songwriters, 0 late night appearances, and a much smaller budget all around in the album's promotion and music videos. Hell, I just saw her on tour and it was a far more barebones production than any big arena show I've ever seen (no costume changes, very small stage, only a small handful of props). But she still put on a fantastic performance, and imo, a really good album too. I think her fans really wanted her to be a huge, blockbuster style pop star a lot more than she ever did, and this whole era seems to be her just doing what she cares about rather than trying to appease them

i was 100% here for this transition cause i understood where she was coming from and actually seen it as a miley cyrus moment doing outrageous stuff to rebrand and rebirth as a new artist, but unfortunately i felt that scarlet was very underwhelming. the songs are 50% responding to what haters/fans comment on her and about 20% talking nonsense repeatedly, so for me, she could still be charting despite her new aesthetics if the songs were actually good.

These days it just doesn't feel like what she's doing is coming from a place of positivity and enjoying being creative and expressing yourself. The only devil in all of this are the labels knowing this power dynamic and exploiting artists by dangling that in front of them. I have to be honest, as someone who got more comfortable saying "no" to people because I was raised to be a people pleaser and sometimes overcorrect by being blunt and rude, a lot of Doja's actions strike me as someone who's just run out of fucks to give and has just decided to say and do her and then deal with the repercussions after. Even a lot of her current aesthetic, tattoos, etc., they're things common in circles among folks who like a "spookier" vibe (myself included) and since she's been a documented internet troll for a while, it seems like she's just taken those troll tactics to her music.

On point. Honestly felt the video was a partial miss, since Doja's rebellious behaviour makes perfect sense given what she's been subjected. Not a fan of Doja or her music, and I'm genuinely repulsed by some of the stuff she posts; However, I can completely understand that after people being oversensitive and openly spiting / bullying you out for everything good or bad in your personal life, that would just make you want to troll the fuck out of those subjecting you to peer pressure. Basically, it's just a big continuous 'Fuck you' to all who judge her. Fair enough, can't say that I wouldn't do the same, just less extreme on her imagery. (But Hell, she's troll, after all. Pun intended ;)

I'm not exactly a fan of Doja but I respect her. She's a prime example of how people will just eat up anything they can get their grubby little hands on, whether good or bad. Nobody cares about basic decency towards other people or any form of understanding for another human being until they're the ones being victimized somehow. People really do act like they only support so that they can dictate another human beings life to fit their weird headcanons. It IS weird. Parasocial relationships ARE weird. People wanna act like they're her friend but then if she does literally anything they don't like then it's suddenly "Ew I don't like you any more" - What kind of decent friend would ever do that? Now everyone thinks she's satanic. Anyone thinking that has completely missed the point: Doja's life doesn't belong to you, and it's extremely arrogant to be making these assumptions about someone that you will literally never know beyond a surface level. I wish that people could just enjoy the art for what it is and stop trying to destroy people that have literally no effect on their personal lives.

Clearly DC was / is into fringe art and subcultures, and that's her right, but the $$$$ and lavish lifestyles are artifacts of by-the-numbers formulaic BS, not some underground scene.
