Lyrics:
Almost heaven, West Virginia, Blue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah River.
Life is old there, older than the trees, younger than the mountains, blowing like a breeze.
Country roads, take me home to the place I belong.
West Virginia, mountain momma, take me home, country roads.
All my memories gather round her, miner's lady, stranger to blue water.
Dark and dusty, painted on the sky, misty taste of moonshine, teardrop in my eye.
Country roads, take me home to the place I belong.
West Virginia, mountain momma, take me home, country roads.

If you're reading this, please pray for my friend Annie. She is a homeless, recovering addict. She has been through every type of pain you could imagine a person could go through. She has experienced loss, abuse, suicide attempts... And yet with Jesus, she has such a loving, strong heart. I have never met a woman like her. Please pray God will bring miracles into her life, and turn her situation around. I ask in Jesus name, Amen.

West Virginia is a product of the cauldron of The American Civil War. Virginia passed an ordnance of secession and people in the western portions of the state were having none of it. The State of West Virginia was formed in 1861.

I grew up in a really tough neighbourhood in the seventies and eighties. Crime, violence, drugs, poverty, handicapped mother, father a criminal, always in jail. Everyday was really tough to get by. Growing up like that you could not help but to get always in trouble and into fights just to stand your ground. However, when I first listened to this song by coincidence I was 12 years old and it suddenly filled me with so much peace that I got addicted to listening to this song. I clearly remember laying on my bed as a kid in the runned down housing project with fungus coming through the wall, listening to this song over and over again just to destress. The calmness and happiness I experienced listening to this song was like a pure miracle to me. Of course as a tough kid I would not openly admit to listening to that kind of music. Only my best friend at that time knew and he had a great voice and he liked J D too. So whenever we met or when we were on our way to school I asked him to sing that song for me. The same experience I had with Poems , Prayers and Promises and many other J D songs. Years later I made it out of the ghetto and accomplished a good education and a honest and honourable life. Maybe just because of these songs. RIP John Denver, I would have loved to tell you this story in person.

Im out of Bass kilter, but we are having our first rehearsal tomorrow, and the drummer and other guitar player ive never met! Anyway i feel ya Tom. If you want, Ill let you know how things progress along, i mean were not novices in the music scene, weve all had years and years of stage experience and presence, so hopefully we can get this right at 58! Am not American. But how can I understand the spirit of real America? I turn on this song, close my eyes and here I am standing on the road that goes into the distance beyond the horizon, where the sun is slowly setting. Someone taps me on the shoulder, I turn around and see an old man with the face of John Wayne. And he, smiling barely noticeably from under the brim of his hat, tells me - There are things, son, that you cannot understand with your mind, but only with your heart...

I live in Argentina, and even today at 74 years old I am accompanied by his songs that reached my heart, long before I knew his lyrics. The days in the country where I spent my vacations in winter and summer, rural roads and mountains silhouetted by reddish sunsets are associated with my early childhood. During my youth I discovered that his songs and his music softened my nostalgia because somehow I also felt included. His actions in favor of peace and the preservation of nature speak of his spiritual greatness. Thank you John for continuing to exist among us.

Back in the late 1970’s John Denver granted an interview with a young small college station DJ. He had people waiting to take him away to another event but he patiently sat for 20 minutes as if he had nothing else to do. We talked about his days with the Chad Mitchell trio in the 60’s his catalog of hit songs he wrote in what seemed like a few short months. Also our mutual love for fly fishing and catch and release. I was a fan before this but talking with him he was not how the media portrayed him as some off the wall mountain man. He was very bright very caring did truly love the outdoors. I met him two other times in the next 15 years at Windstar Foundation events. The hits had slowed down by then but he had already left a legacy as a singer songwriter. He was a joy to watch still when he did preform up to fifteen years older than when I first met him every song he sang was a hit or well known among his fans the voice better I thought than ever. It’s been 2 decades plus since he died he left us early denying many the joy and pleasure of hearing him live. John Denver was a good man a talent in song writing and a voice I miss dearly.

Genius song, lyrics. I always wondered about the line "stranger to blue water," but my (WWII hero) dad was the son of a WV coal miner, and all the otherwise-lovely mountain streams are still copper-red from mining pollution. No state has suffered environmentally and socially more than WV.

I think "blue water" refers to the ocean, not just clean water. But that's really sad to hear about the WV mountain streams. I wish WV would stop voting people in who don't have their best interests at heart.

Almost heaven, West Virginia Blue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah River Life is old there, older than the trees Younger than the mountains, growing like a breeze Country roads, take me home To the place I belong West Virginia, mountain mama Take me home, country roads All my memories gather 'round her Miner's lady, stranger to blue water Dark and dusty, painted on the sky Misty taste of moonshine, teardrop in my eye Country roads, take me home To the place I belong West Virginia, mountain mama Take me home, country roads I hear her voice, in the morning hour she calls me The radio reminds me of my home far away Driving down the road, I get a feeling That I should have been home…

Music is a gift from our Creator! Jesus is the reason for our existence..... for all things were made by Him and for Him. He lived a perfect life (without sin) and then died on a cross. Three days later He arose from the dead. He is coming back soon. If you believe this.....then you will be saved and go to Heaven some day (instead of Hell). It is God's amazing gift to us sinners. You just need to repent of your sins and ask Jesus to be LORD & Saviour.

I was so in love with him in the 70s as a teenybopper. he taught me to play guitar. I cried like a baby when he died. I couldn't sing along with his positive love of life songs without crying. This lasted for a very long time. A big part of my childhood crashed right along with him. Such a horrible end for a beautiful man. God has certainly rested his soul. Thank you, John, for your life and all you shared with us.
