My grandpa loved this song. He was an immigrant from Ukraine during WW2 trying to escape the Nazis and the Soviets with his wife pregnant with my uncle. They eventually made it to Mississippi and moved up the river until they made it to Chicago. He had his family grow there though he lost touch with some of his siblings. When I was little he would get so emotional listening to this thinking of his childhood home and I get emotional listening to this because it makes me think of him.

There is definitely something spiritual about this song.

A couple of years ago, I was watching a football game that West Virginia won. After a break, the broadcast came back,and, showed the fans singing this song. My friend Sid(West Virginia born and raised) had told me about this,but,it would be the first time I ever saw and heard it . Made me cry.❤❤❤😢😢😢 Now, when I play this, I think of my friend now living in Vancouver, Washington.😊😊😊😊

I've been a John Denver fan since the early 70's. His music speaks of love, nature, family and everything else that is meaningful to us. He tells stories and talks about his childhood and allows us to take a step back and appreciate the little things in life. His music has helped me get through some difficult times in my life. I encourage everyone to listen to all his great hits. Bet you hear a few that you recall, but never realized they were from John.

I’m a classic rock fan, but love this song. I was born in Alabama, worked on my grandparents farm in the summer. They lived in the freedom hills, foot of the Appalachian Mountains. I’ve seen moonshine being made, maybe had a sip or two. :).

This is a great song. I heard it as kid then forgot it over the years. Then I was randomly up all night drinking whiskey with a buddy in Bangkok. At the end of the night we wound up on a fishing dock outside of the city a bit worse for wear with some thai friends. As the sun was rising over the bay our friend Es found a guitar and starts belting out this classic. It was just one of those moments where everything felt right with the world. A moment of clarity.
