Jeep Cherokee XJ Unibody Frame Stiffeners Install | Rear Section

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This week we are back to work on the 1999 Jeep Cherokee XJ. Today I will be welding in the rear section Unibody Frame Dtiffeners. Plating the frame improves the structural integrity of the Jeep to allow it to be better protected for off road use. Today I will show you how to do the whole job from start to finish by prepping the Jeep for the install and welding them in place. If you have any questions that the video does not cover, make sure to leave them below.

    Nice job! As for the POR15, I reduce it with acetone and spray it. I use a 15$ HVLP gun from Harbor Freight. Does a really nice job. You want to make sure to wear a respirator when spraying any paint. God bless, stay well.

    My 92 XJ gor rear ended in 2020, messing up my frame right there where the filler hose went through. My guess was also that I would have to fab something as well. This is a great video to help me figure that out.

    Did you drill holes for hitch mount in your frame repair? Or will you drill later if needed?

    Hey Austin, was just wondering if you had to deal with the “No Bus” issue with any of your jeeps? I know they had a factory recall which consisted of replacing the pigtails that plug into the gauge cluster but 22 years later I can’t find the kit for the recall anywhere. I tried cleaning the connectors, I cleaned and redid the ground for the dash and the one on the firewall in the engine bay. I also used the 3m double sided tape behind where the plugs sit behind the cluster to oust the plugs further into the cluster for better contact. All this seems to have helped as I only get the no bus message every few months instead of every week like it had been, but I was wondering if you knew of a better fix that would deal with the issue once and for all. Anyway, thanks for all the great videos, and I am sporting a out keeping decal on my 2001 Jeep Charokee XJ

    I had the same issue with the Black '99 Sport 4x4. Constantly an issue that was never resolved. My current '99 Sport has never had the issue. She is a 2wd and has never been off road. I'm sure that is a major factor in whether or not the bus issue happens. Ultimately though, it is a design flaw in our beloved Cherokees.

    I have to do the same repairs on my 2000. I'm not a welder, but I might have to learn. What dia wire are you using? I've watched a bunch of these videos, doing this repair / intall. I'm impressed with the quality of your work. It looks great. (how much to do mine? LOL )

    I'm using flux core .035 wire on a Lincoln 140 120v welder. The quality in wire makes a huge difference so I would stick with name brand.

    Why would you want to stiffen the frame? You want some flex. Unibody is already stiffer tham body on frame

  • @OutJeeping

    @OutJeeping

    6 ай бұрын

    When you use the Jeep for more than just daily driving, you will experience cracks and stress fractures from offroading and larger tires. Stiffeners help to eliminate that as well as help aid any rust repair as well. You don't want your unibody to flex. That is what suspension is for.
