Iron Man Hulkbuster Cosplay #28 | Electronics with Arduino | James Bruton

Ғылым және технология

In this episode of my Avengers Age of Ultron Hulkbuster build, I get the arms mounted and look at some control electronics with Arduino.
In this series, I build a complete Iron Man Hulkbuster cosplay with animatronics and mechatronics with a step-by-step guide to cover everything you’ll need to build your very own suit. From 3D printing the parts to installing the mechanics that make this whole suit wearable and actually able to walk around.

Hi James, you don't need external pull down resistors to "drive" switches on an Arduino. The CPU has build-in pull up resistors which you can enable in software. Just connect one end of the switch to GND and the other end to a input pin (no external resistors needed). In the software, then use pinMode(pinNumber, INPUT_PULLUP) instead of pinMode(pinNumber, INPUT) to enable the internal pull up resistor. That way, the logic value flips (i.e. the pin is HIGH when the switch is open and LOW when the switch is closed instead of the other way around), but that's more than easy to compensate in software.

I would probably go with the H-Bridges and a graduated PWM signal for the hand opening/wrist bending, just to ease the motors into a spin. I suspect the relay would be a hefty load initially, might be less stress on parts and power? Great work by the way, it's nice to see everything coming together.

I noticed in the iron man movies there are certain panels on the suit that are left open and close when he enters, if all or at least most of the panels that move could all close at once when someone enters (controlled by maybe a switch or a button) would make a cool transition to when someone enters or exits.

Have you considered using for loops in arduino code instead of while loops? They just provide slightly nice syntax and remove the need to manually do the variable increments at the end of the loop. All of the control functionality is done in the loop deceleration.

James do you know if there is a sort of "recycling" method for 3D printer filament? With the new hands you're currently making, It would be a waste if you just had to trash something you've spent days on without being able to salvage anything from them. Do you think you can melt the salvageable plastic down and re-purpose it?

Awesome suit - can't wait for more videos, but why don't you get a joystick with a few more bottoms. A joystick with 5-7 bottom would make you able to control all the functions, if more is needed you use one bottom as a "shift" key to open up a 2nd level of functions.

The hand still looks too small for the forearm and it doesnt really pull back enough to show the repulser and if you add plates to the hand to make them bigger and less flat then wont it cath even more and not be able to move? The hand closing mechanism I noticed that the cable for the thumb runs over the plate for the repulsor, and in the video the thumb click once as if the cable got caught and then snapped back. Finally with the electronics, how many things can be connected to the arduino, cant you use a single board to control everything or is it easier to program and control everything with many boards?

Hey James, I've got a pretty cool idea. You should contact either coop1772, Lord draculon, or any other major nerf mod/review channels on KZread, and commission them to make some sweet custom nerf blasters for your project. I know you've already done all the programming for just the light, but coop and Drac can do some amazing things with nerf guns to fit your specifications. You could mount them in the pop up weapon slots, and personally I think it would be way cooler than a light, and I know that they allow nerf guns a conventions. Just a thought!
