Irish Latinos (Somos Paisanos)
There is a lot connecting Latin & Irish culture. I often joke that Irish people were the original Mexicans. We just shagged our way to president sooner.
I love Latin culture and lived in Latin America for 2 years.
Irish soldiers fought on behalf of Mexico in 1846. The group were called the San Patricios. Numerous schools, churches & landmarks are named after
The character of Zorro was inspired by William Lamport from Co. Wexford in Ireland. An illegal immigrant ahead of his time.
Che Guevaras lineage goes back to Galway. Che’s father, Ernesto Guevara Lynch, was always proud of his Irish roots. Referring to Che’s “restless” nature, his father said “the first thing to note is that in my son’s veins flowed the blood of the Irish rebels”.
Many streets in South America are named after (Ambrose) O’Higgins son, the Irish born viceroy of Peru. His son Bernardo O’Higgins served as the supreme director of Chile for 6 years and was one of the countries founding fathers. His dad was Irish.
The Argentine Navy was setup by William Brown, born in Mayo, Ireland.
The academy of Medicine in Montevideo & the first medical school in Buenos Aires were set up by Irishman Miguel O’Gorman.
Argentina and Uruguay alone took in 50k Irish immigrants when we had the great famine in Ireland.
An Irishman who fought alongside South American independence hero Simon Bolivar and helped Venezuela win independence from Spain. Daniel Florence O'Leary became Bolivar's aide-de-camp and rose to the rank of general before Venezuela became independent in 1821.
Irish immigrants played an instrumental role in Puerto Rico's economy, especially the sugarcane and tobacco industries.
Álvaro Obregón (translated to O'Brian or O'Brien) was president of Mexico during 1920-24 and Obregón city and airport are named in his honour.

He is not lying about the Irish fighting on Mexicos side during the Mexican American War. The Saint Patrick’s Battalion! Irish will always have a special place in Mexicans hearts!
Irish people are legit epic, god bless Ireland (as a Latino).
I'm latina married to an Irishman. He's Latino now 😂❤ his hijoepu... is flawless.
My dad was an immigrant from Ireland. I learned the story of Los San Patricio's decades ago and love it. Irish telling anglos to feck off and fighting for Mexico instead. I have many great Mexican amigos.
I am actually latino with 1% my bloodline being Irish and he knows more spanish than I do, but I do a pretty good irish accent.🤣🤣🤣

Us Irish are Spanish... Both Irish and Spanish people share Celtic ancestors. In the case of Spain, about half of the Iberian Peninsula was populated by Celtic tribes (not only Galicia, all the North and a great part of Castilla and León... What part of Spain did the Irish come from? northern Spain All probably originally came to Ireland on boats from northern Spain. Our closest relatives are found in various parts of Galicia and the Basque country according to genetic studies led by Prof Dan Bradley of Trinity College Dublin's Smurfit Institute of Genetics.
My mom is Mexican and my dad was American with English, Irish and Scottish with a bit of Spaniard thrown in!
during the Mexican-American war, many Irish fighting for the U.S. switched sides. United States discriminated against the Catholics, Mexico wanted an officially Catholic country.
Im Irish and i live in Monterrey Mexico and my daughter was born in Monterrey Mexico 🇲🇽☘️🇮🇪 Sláinte 😎 Us Irish and Mexicans have so much in common during the Mexican American war over 200 Irish soldiers called the San Patricios fought proudly on Mexicos side during the Mexican American war... Us Irish and Mexicans are Celtic 🇮🇪☘️🇲🇽❤️😎 Do Mexicans have Celtic ancestry since the Spaniards were ancient Iberians and Celts? Mexico today has the greatest absolute number of people claiming Indigenous American ancestry, but a significant portion of the population have Spanish, Portuguese, and French ancestry-all of which contain Celtic genes

Just remember that not all Hispanics/latinos mexican. It's already bad enough when Americans assume we're all mexican 🤦♂️
There is a town in New Mexico called San Patricio.
Dave’s comedy is always brilliant. I could spend hours listening to him.
I love the cultural appreciation in his bits! It's clear that cultures are a great passion of his and it's great to see. And honestly Americans can definitely benefit from experiencing some culture considering that they don't have any of their own. 😉 (Before white Americans start mass complaining: I'm joking. Now go back to eating your unseasoned boiled chicken.)

I love this man! So great, I could listen to him all day!
It's interesting, during the Mexican-American war, many Irish fighting for the U.S. switched sides. America descriminated against the Catholics, and Mexico wanted an officially Catholic country.
My grandfather is originally from Ireland.born in Belfast, raised in Dublin. My great great grandfather actually was one of the builders of the rms Titanic
Esteemed and Revered Mr. Nihill, GRMMA for keeping your informed, intellectual and hilarious senses about yourself! You have the Gift, both genetic and nurtured! Hearing Ireland history and facts in your work is heartwarming and evokes deep pride! Once again, GRMMA!!! P.S. Anacleto Pizarro below hijacked this thread apparently for perpetrating a scheme. Very unfortunate. P.P.S. It seems you purged Pizarro’s conversation/sub-thread! Good on ya’!!!

I have heard twice now, an African activist American published results that 60% of black people in the South have irish DNA,whilst in the North its 40%...I haven't looked up...
This is how I found out that Zorro was irish!
The reason many Mexicans have red hair is because our Spanish ancestors were Celtiberians, the Celts are all over Europe.
Absolutely fabuloso love ya 🍀
Great stuff Dave!
You've done your homework! Indeed, I'd read about all these before, but I feel particularly impressed you caught about Alvaro Obregon!
I'm rewatching , worth it , miss things the first time
1:40 I am double minded about whether to learn Irish ☘️ or Spanish 🇪🇸? What’s your opinion mate?
Lol...this is good. Respect.
It's the sexy accent is the reason I'm engaged to one
Lmao MARTHA'S VINEYARD😂😂😂😂
David, I love your stuff and particularly the history, but the guy who inspired Zorro was William Lamport not Langford.
David just mentioned the Irish connection to Mexico. However, there are other historical examples of Irish and Irish descendants impact Latin American history. Ambrose O'Higgins, the impoverished Irish nobleman who decided to serve the Spanish crown and became the Viceroy for Spain in Peru. His son Bernardo O'Higgins fought in the wars for independence from Spain and is considered the liberator of Chile. William Brown, the Irish sailor, is now considered the Argentine Navy's father.
That was comedic genius
😂 the sneaking bit
As Mexican I have been vested with the power to declare anyone who loves our crazy culture as Mexicans themselves. So...By the powers vested in me hereby I declare you Pinche paisano guero mexicano
