I was going through a really tough time in my life and throwing myself into rescuing dogs saved me, every bit as much as I saved them. Dogs are so incredibly inspirational in their ability to recover from abuse and neglect, to trust again. Most of mine came to me because they had particularly bad effects from trauma and love was pretty much all it took for them to rediscover the joy of living. Dogs, to me, are literally awesome.

I'm from Romania. I didn't expect this video. Edit 1: your translation "stay to have my way with you" is correct. These words can mean: to have your way with somebody, but also to make fun of somebody in a kinda cruel way, or despise somebody, take sthg for granted. Edit 2: very good job, sir, very well documented. I thought he had only 4-5 victims, but he was in a raping/killing spree. What I want to add, as far as I know, they had to do the trial at night, because Rimaru, who was stalking women who worked in late shifts, changed his biorythm: he was sleepy during day and awake at night. Another thing: neighbours didn't interfere probably because they were afraid of militia and Security, especially during communism. There was this saying that first they beat you, and after that they ask you. Even these days, if you complain of something the police intimidates you, maybe they fine you, rarely they do something to really help you, so you keep out of others problems. Also, it is true, at least for that times, that if people saw you laying on the street, they first thought you were drunk. It happened to my mother, when she was pregnant and she felt sick.

As a Romanian, I can tell you that you did a great job translating everything, and with the info in general. Honestly, the murder and rape rate here isnt as high as in other bigger countries, we are mostly known for thivery. Eitherway, if you are interested in another case, look for "Gheorghe Dinca". This individual became the most infamous criminal in recent Romanian history. Just a heads up, the case isnt really conclusive, though.

At 9:50, the romanian quote is (from what I've gotten from the audio) "Lasã-mã sã-mi bat joc de tine, ori te tai". It means "Let me humiliate you, or else I'm cutting you". It is close to the first translation you mentioned, except the "make fun" is meant in a bad way, like mockery or humiliation.

That is a normal thing everywhere - the degree may vary, but when confronted with a victim like that the likelihood of people doing anything to help is a lot worse than you would think. A friend of mine was beaten and lying bleeding on the ground. The first person to pass a little while later took his wallet (this was caught on camera). This was in a mid sized town in the southern US about 10-15 years ago ... people at traffic accidents taking pictures, hindering the work of helpers ... this kind of thing is entirely commonplace without any need to resort to nationalist stereotypes ...

I know the stories are horrible, but I don't know why, it's probably the voice, it helps me fall asleep. Please take it as a compliment. I don't listen to them only when I go to sleep tho! You know, it's stories like this that make me realize just how devalued women are. The fact that one of those women knocked on 2 doors just to have them slammed in her face and when she collapsed another woman unbelievably assumed she was drunk without even questioning her and her head was caved in. Hearing screams, and no one does ANYTHING??? Watching this gives me NYC vibes when a person could be R a p e d right on the street, and people would ignore them and keep walking...just awful.😡

Everyone had to keep to themselves during those times. The secret police had a strong grip on the whole country and being involved in even the smallest of incidents could put oneself and their families in danger. Those were harsh times, and so were the people. A Westerner couldn't survive one week in the shoes of a Romanian, especially then.

Impressive work… so much research and detail on a foreign, lesser known case is HARD and as usual, you nailed it. You found a serial killer I didn’t know about! As an Australian I was well versed in the so called ‘beauty queen killer’ (sorry for that export my US friends) and VERY familiar with Ivan Milat since I live in Sydney, and it all unfolded when I was younger. I actually had a great conversation with my housemate after that episode though because he’s an ex-cop who worked with Detective Clive who broke the case. So I still gained new insight into that case resulting from your video. You do incredible work, I have infinite respect for how much effort you put into every video. Everything was greatly covered and well explained, however I can't help but notice that there are a lot of examples on how romanian people would hear / see these acts taking place and just look the other way, painting romanians in a bad light. I just want to add to this that this case is pretty old, in a time when people were scared for their own lives. The old generations were taught that speaking up about Anything would make them a target. From a romanian to everyone here, I would like to say that with the new generations, the connection to the internet bringing cultures together and with the old regime long gone, please rest assured these cases of people not speaking up for strangers, or criticizing someone in a pool of blood are not so common anymore, and when something happens we are more likely to help or at least call the police.

Anybody could have been an informer, in some cases people didn't even trust family members. It was a mentality that was meant to keep the population divided and obedient.
