Introduction: In Search of Truth

An alternative to the booktube newbie tag: this is an introduction to my (mainly, but not exclusively, bookish) channel as well as some of my thoughts on truth in our culture, particularly nowadays with the growth of social media and technology.
Sorry about the quality and editing, I'm new to this!

“I can’t ask the world to be truthful if I’m not prepared to do it myself.” This really resonated, especially in our current culture. Transforming the world by first transforming yourself, and leading by example rather than just meaningless platitudes. You are so refreshing and inspiring! 💖

"What if people I know find this and I'm outed as a failure?" I totally relate to this feeling, but I just wanted to comment to let you know that even if you had 0 views or subscribers, you are extremely successful in what you are putting out into the world. In my opinion, putting out creative, original and intelligent thought (into a world where many people happily avoid thinking for themselves), is the most success a person can find. From what I have seen so far on your channel, you hold strength and belief in your values that are not swayed by popular opinion, and I think that kind of voice can change the world :) All the best to you in your KZread journey from here, I have so much respect for you and the content you are creating! x

Thanks! I spend a lot of time on youtube, but hardly give anything back to the creators. I kind of had the opinion that the ad revenue, and just by watching, that was enough contribution ... I've watched so many of your videos. I wanted to contribute. I looked for a patreon, or other means of giving back, because your videos are impactful. Exactly what you're stating in this video. And seems to be what I've been looking for. And I really wanted some way to give back, maybe commenting more, maybe making my own videos. And then these "super thanks" buttons appeared. (Yes! Thank you, Universe!) And by the way, you look very celtic in this video. (is that the right word? true witch? earth anchored? something like that... it's the look... ) when I saw one of your videos and you happened to just go off talking about NEEDING nature, I knew, yes. very witchy. But here, it's the look, more so than I've gotten from so many of your other videos. You are an amazing individual! I am glad I found your channel. I am glad your channel is taking off. We need realism. Authentic viewpoints. Not idea laundering. People should be able to not fear for being authentic.

I've just unexpectedly come across your channel and this has got to be one of the strongest introductions I've seen. I actually prefer channels that don't just focus on books, as much as I love booktube; I'm always in search for people that post content outside of the standard booktube video structure and your channel seems very promising. Thank you for your honesty and straightforwardness, it's refreshing to see someone that has the same attitude I always strive to have and that sometimes costs me end up being an outcast because what I say is either inconvenient to hear or simply annoying because people are tired all the time and they don't want to deal with heavy thinking - or even, frustratingly so, people who don't do their homework and start blabbing out downright wrong ideas/non facts and then can't deal with a person that actually dedicates time searching for the truth and developing a deliberately aware attitude and ethical compass (I'm thinking more specifically about political topics), and doesn't just consume lazy and even harmful content (Kardashian content, using your expression, or worse). I also think that sometimes the kind of content that appeals to us because we're specially targetted is a trap that can be hard to escape and it can be very elitist to assume the person is just being lazy and careless, and here KZread plays a major role because it has an amazing variety of educational content for free that lots of people might not have access to otherwise. Lastly, I like selfies as they can be a good conversation starter and an exercise of self esteem if you have a good online network of support :)

I swear I feel like I just found myself again through this channel and this community. Growing up I've only had ONE person with whom I could have a decent intellectual conversation with(not saying the other people were bad, they were excellent but they were just lacking some qualities I'd really love to have in my friends which I hope are my own qualities). And then that person moved and I felt a part of me went with her. And since then I've only been influenced by these other friends that had little thinking of their own, those go-with-the-flow types, the media... oh lord. Somehow all I could click on were these exciting videos that give you a sortof sugar rush about being fit and healthy and make-up and clothes and those comedy type videos that really only teach you more foul language or "cool" slang. All these are good in their own way, you still learn something new but the MENTALITY that came with it, it was all about physical appearances and actions and whatnot that seem to say that's the only thing that can make you happy. I pretty much literally felt a drop in my IQ lol. So what I'm trying to say is how important it is to surround yourself with the right type of people/media/books etc, it sortof "excercises" your personality. And now hopefully I'll get some excercise for my intellectual bookworm self. My gangsta "badass" "cool" self has been excercised quite enough I think😂

Your channel is amazing, and I agree with you completely. I’ve never been a big fan of social media either, and while I don’t mind a few mindless indulges (Vampire Diaries, Gossip Girl, etc...) everything should be in moderation. It’s not necessarily falsities that have been boosted, but the obsession with personal image. We’ve always been false, just look at the old South that had one of the most hypocritical hospitable social systems I’ve ever read about. I don’t think falsities are necessarily wrong; in fact, I’d argue they’re necessary to establish relationships with people we hate but must interact with. BUT, with all things, when the lies become delusions to a person, it is dangerous. We can’t be convinced by the act, and neither can we seek forms of escapism that fuels this vanity. Because acceptance is hard, and we preach about it a lot but actively avoid it. And I’d say it is a part of life; that if every truth was stated then a lot of people would be thrown into chaos, and some people thrive off games and mystery. But once we uncover the whole truth, then purpose is lost and there’s nothing more fulfilling than uncovering the layers of a person and seeing them for what they are. This is an incredibly meandering tangent, but my point is that truth and deception are directly in tandem. Truth needs lies to get people to care, because nothing stirs up people more than their trust being betrayed (Look at many movements, like the Scottsboro case, which ignited a passion in people inspired by equality, but it dissipated once the satisfactory truth had been compensated for). And lies need truth in order to right a wrong, and define moral and ethical obligations. If we continue to indulge in the meaningless void of memes and distractions, what can we do about either of these? I don’t mind distractions, because media doesn’t always need to be serious. But it does need to be SOMETHING. All too often nowadays in fiction, there is no message. Romances become blobs of feels or (Unfortunately) abuse, but lack purpose. Sure, they’re sweet - but they can serve a greater purpose. Ghibli films are a great example of sweet but impactful, because thy say things that matter while still keeping an entertaining story. No more of these contemplative romances and stuff for kids that feed lies and lies without anyone uncovering truth. No more of our vain micro-managing of how we are perceived, because perception can only be maintained with a clear understanding of HOW this may be separate from identity - do how it could integrate in personal character. Ignorance plagues modern culture, more than lies may. Even on KZread, you can post serious comments and have people laugh and take it sarcastically. Why can’t we be serious without people accusing pretentious edginess, why can’t we be taken seriously without people laughing down our issues? This is the result of unrestrained honesty and ignorance, which can create toxicity and lack of respect or awareness. This generation can feel so ignorant of other culture because it’s so easy to be dazzled by empty pleasures, we forget that value can be learned in fiction and succumb to infantile rushes of instantaneous but forgettable entertainment. One thing I noticed is that kid’s menus of most restaurants consist of junk food. Why can’t children eat fancy or healthy food? Why must it be dumbed down? This leads to the revelation that this modern society is encouraging looking down on us, and that we have accepted the position by consuming mediocrity and allowing just good enough. Why do we need good enough? Bad teaches us what’s done wrong, and great teaches us how to do right and what we can learn about ourselves and others. But okay? It’s just passable, just unnecessary, and now we want unnecessary. To finish up this thing which has spiraled beyond my control and is just thoughts pulled from the recesses of my mind, strive to be better. I’m glad you’re pursuing knowledge and truth, because they’re importance, and their importance is being lost in modern day (I won’t deny that). I love you and your channel, and I hope you can stay with this conviction.

Peace, goodluck and thank you. You have helped me gain some reassurance in the perspective I've come to understand as I too have begun to take advantage of the speakers with videos posted that dive into the importance of objective truth, freedom of speech, awareness of underlying motives, the ability to be offended without resorting to violence, and making an effort in every interaction with others not to be right, but to meet and part on the level. I just wanted to say how nice it is to find someone with a similiar pursuit and values as I do. I am in search of the truth, which can be quite arduous at times, and it doesn't always end with complete and fulfilling answers, but I always find myself more enlightened and grounded in the end. So, yeah. I feel that you are genuine, and from the videos I have seen, have voiced similiar thoughts of mine which I've always wanted others to express (and that is SO refreshing). I also fully expect for us to have our differences, but from what (albeit little) I have seen so far you don't fall into name-calling when that happens (I find them pointless and aggravating, with no results). Hope I have not rambled or anything. You have gained a subscriber.

I was shown one of your videos today thanks to yt's magical algorithm. The one about the desecration of feminity really got me because I have similar views and I'm experiencing your same anxiety with my nieces. I found it so deep and interesting I felt I had to go back and watch some more vids from your channel. And now, you uploaded this first video the same day I had last my birthday, and that made me remember lots of things, I almost cried. I'm not good at expressing emotions so I won't even try, but I wanted to comment something at least. As far as I understand tech, I know that's what matters the most here. People pressing like and getting involved in comment discussions, that bumps you up in the search results. Like you said, we may not be able to change the world, but we can put every little grain that's on our hands. You seem to be such an intelligent and honest person, I really hope many people listen to your channel. You have very interesting and logical opinions, and didn't seem afraid of showing them. You also have the capacity to explain them and be understood which I'm envious of. Having now seen this first video, I can only appraise that you decided to start this channel with those objectives. Being honest, giving your opinions, opening yourself to the world without fears of being just who you are, instead learning more about yourself and learning to love your traits, good or bad. You may not have changed the world, but you've changed my rather pretentious opinion of myself. I hope you find what it is you seek from your work, and I hope my newfound humility lasts longer than a short season. Good luck, Observer. Maybe someday I'll return the favor... somehow. Who knows?

So glad I've found this channel. It's so refreshing to see a young woman who portrays herself so humanly, and who speaks to us like we're people too. Count me as your new fan. :) I'm not even much of a reader, low attention span, but I'll be damned if I'm ready to read things based on your recommendations. Thanks for being brave enough to start this channel and brave enough to just be yourself. Hell if I've found the bravery to be myself yet...so, cheers to you!

Thank you so much for sharing your honest thoughts and opinions, a rarity nowadays. I also love your videos, they are blunt but I appreciate it when honest reviews just get to the point. You have made me re-think certain books... especially the books written by Cassandra Clare and I am looking forward to your future videos.

Hi! Today, I found you in my recommended videos section. I haven't seen much of your content yet, but in watching this introduction, I love that you are in pursuit of truth and aren't afraid to talk plainly about things or have people disagree with you. Just so you have an idea for where you're starting to reach your audience, I'm from the Chicago area. Thank you for putting yourself out there.

I'm sad it took this long to find your channel. I watched the video commenting on femininity in modern movies, and how masculine females as role models are discrediting femininity as strong. I also watched the sorcerer video, and from those two videos alone, I am certain I'll like this binge I'm starting on. Your future videos will be greatly anticipated as well. I'm glad you joined youtube Galatea. Best regards from a new subscriber.

Really great video! This actually inspired me to think about restarting my channel. A few months ago, I made some videos discussing things that I’m passionate about, but when after a few days I still had just like three views, I lost my nerve and made them private. Hopefully now I’ll try again, not caring so much about amounts of views and likes :) Thank you! 😄

Social media is what you make out of it. Never let others define you! You are you and nobody can tell you what you have to be but YOU! Follow your heart and you will find your passion. When you find your passion understand what impact it can have on the world around you. When you understand that impact, pursue your path to the best of your abilities. It's not only about you and what you would like it to be, it's about what can you personally do to make better future for everyone. Honestly, the world today is filled with so much crap you can hardly get by living without ever associating with it. Seeing bright, happy, honest, young face speaking her mind can only make positive difference in the age we live in. Don't deny the world your talents just because you are shy by Nature! P.S. Please, never ever dip your foot into politics. You will only end up losing your shining there and you will have to put up with all the dirt and mud it carries with it! It's a world where bright Soul like yours can't survive unstained. The mud will stick up with you!

I really love historical fiction and fantasy (I'm guessing you like fantasy from looking at your channel?) and I have a massive soft spot for children's literature which I think can be so amazing. With movies it's sort of the same, but my all time favourite film is the Dead Poet's Society -not sure what genre that is! Sci fi I like sometimes (I love Doctor Who) but sometimes it freaks me out a bit!

The Authentic Observer Yay!! Another fantasy lover!! I also have a soft spot for children's lit actually (Shannon Hale is one of my favourite authors to this day because she was the one that really got me into reading). I never really got into historical fiction and I definitely love sci-fi, but our tastes are definitely similar! Also, the dead poets society is one of the best movies ever so I'm glad it tops your list!!
