    They let Camilla go so many times bouncing the bar and decide to tell her way later after doing a good amount of sets why didn’t they say something the first time she did it

    Fun fact Camille actually asked if it was alright to bounce the bar, and they did say yes. They probably didn’t expect as large of a bounce, though, so they called it out later(even though it should’ve been clarified on her first attempt).

    They keep talking about how "we have improved since 2007". In 2007 this was probably a contest for fitness enthusiasts having fun. Now with all the money that came to crossfit it's natural (heh ;) ) that it got real athletes interest. Athletes training, eating, living to win. To earn money (and I would be the last one to BLAME them for it, this is not my point). Also, with all the comments here stating "man up!" "tighten up!" (go search for it, it's not that hard) it's really funny when you realize that people behind these comments look like "the fittest fans" from (for example) 57:03 :D

    I like that crossfit add powerlifting/strongman movements into the mix but in no actual strength competition would someone be asked to complete 9 movements in 12 minutes and be expected to hit a max in each... just silly. This doesn't prove fitness it's just an injury waiting to happen.

  • @siheath3648

    @siheath3648

    strong ele Agreed! Quickest way to pick up an injury is to start Crossfit. It's amazing how these guys can keep going all year round doing the movements they do at the intensity they do without falling to bits. PEDs help but still remarkable really.

  • @Emp1231231

    @Emp1231231

    Crossfit is its own thing with its own rules. Whenever I hear someone say something like this I think of a sprinter criticizing football for having people try to tackle the sprinters as they run down the field. It's just an injury waiting to happen! You can't apply the rules of one sport to another. Crossfit probably does increase chance of injury, but that's just the nature of the thing, and you can't apply the rules from one sport to another.

  • @eleanor4947

    @eleanor4947

    5 жыл бұрын

    @@Emp1231231 yeah crossfit is it's own thing but in this event they are they mimicking a powerlifting competition the only difference being in a PL comp where the aim is to make PBs, they wouldn't be asked to do it in 12 minutes. No one has time to recover and prepare for their next lift. In terms of football/sprinters, the aim is to score a point (or whatever they score, I'm English so I don't know how your version of football works) so of course they're going to be tackled to prevent point scoring. Crossfit encourages a healthy lifestyle so how can being injured be part of the sport?

  • @PainterFRO

    @PainterFRO

    5 жыл бұрын

    Because they aren't going for a max or trying to hit PB's they are going for a total..These athletes know what they are capable of as you see many of them being coached or having what numbers they wanna hit taped to their drink bottles or wrote on their hands..Now if your average Joe who hits the gym 4 or 5 times a week for an hour tries to do something like this then its an injury waiting to happen but that's not the case. They aren't doing events like this in CrossFit gyms for your average CrossFitter. I've seen more people get hurt in a Planet Fitness gym squatting and benching than in any CrossFit affiliate.

    This is a good Crossfit event, fun to watch, looks cool. Why they program so many goofy events I don't know. I don't think your average viewer is going to get excited by watching someone do 50 one legged squats or burpees. They guy who programs really needs to consider what will grow the sport and attract interest, not just what would be a difficult workout.

  • @fitnessavarice8065

    Emp1231231 castro looks at all of that when he does the programming, he has to balance the show aspect but in the end he is programming a competition that has to really push these athletes. From the outside it does look a bit boring and probably a bit outlandish but from the view of people who do this stuff everyday it is awesome to see how strong and fit these people are

  • @bailzybenjmain6864

    Understood, however, the whole point of this competition is to test each athlete’s capacity within the 10 general physical skills, this can be further divided into the 8 assessment areas of the assessment web (being strength, gymnastics and weightlifting skills, cardiorespiratory endurance, flexibility, recovery, stamina and mindset, with a deficiency in one element may take away from the whole point of the test in the first place, this being to find the fittest man and woman on earth, despite how much of a show us viewers want, it’s the intensity that these athletes bring to each workout on the competition floor that creates the moments to remember

  • @Emp1231231

    @Emp1231231

    I think you can test those things in an exciting way. Or at least shunt the goofier parts out of prime time the way they put the marathon row late at night. Hey, I really like crossfit and want the sport to grow. I'd love for it to be as big as the NFL but I don't think it will unless you make it more visually appealing. Could they do something similar to the NFL, 15 weeks of "regular season" before the Games? I don't know how.

  • @fovika

    @fovika

    5 жыл бұрын

    What you find goofy some mght find exciting. And the sport IS growing, so what they are doing is working. How would you make them more "visually appealing"? Also, if your idea of "visually appealing" is the NFL, why? because it's longer? The crossfit games has more of an olympics feel (which is another sporting event that is only a "short" duration of time). And when you compair those 2 (OL and Crossfit) this is WAY more visualy interesting (especially considering it's the same people doing every event).

  • @Emp1231231

    @Emp1231231

    5 жыл бұрын

    I think all of the athletes at the games should be able to make a living as a professional athlete. The prize money outside the top 3 is paltry compared to the amount of time and effort it takes to compete at that level. I don't see why the top competitors can't make the millions of dollars other sports pay. One weekend a year isn't going to bring in enough money for that to happen. You would need something like football season, a 15 or 16 week regular season followed by the games. Plus you'd have to put out a product that can compete with the other sports and sustain interest over that time. That's the problem that needs to be faced.

    9:15 such a body position is the reason this event was cut from Olympic weightlifting during 1970s. too many spinal injuries. 57:15 "rain should'n affect this"? what? you try lifting with your feet sliding all over the place.

  • @mostrengo

    @mostrengo

    4 жыл бұрын

    first here they are only pressing, while the Olympic event was clean and press. second, the event wasn't cut due to injuries. it was because it was very hard to judge what was a legal lift and what wasn't. The feet couldn't move on the lift, but still, athletes started using a slight leg drive on the press, which defeated the original purpose of judging only upper body strength.

    Wow, I can't believe they let that bouncing shit fly. I don't know crossfit rules, but in every Overhead Press I've ever seen, that bounce is called "cheating". Not to say cheat reps don't have their place, but that's not in competition.

    Ah first event, max squats with no spotter or safety bars. Good way to herniate a disk getting out from under it if its too heavy. But its crossfit so its safe.

    Anyone know the weight of the bar for the deadlifts? Because if that is a standard 45lb. bar the weights they are saying are completely wrong. I train for football and am not to familiar with the weight of the bar for the crossfit games.

    Elijah Jeremiah Lowe the bar for women is 15 kg (around 33 lbs). This is also the case for olympics (hence why its called an olympic bar), but I dont know if its the same for powerlifting

    To me since she didn’t bounce it from her legs and used only pressing muscles to lift it up I would think it should be legal. Just my opinion but she’s lifting w her shoulders not bouncing it up w the rest of her body to “cheat” the weight up.

    @@IanfKirby ??? she's using elastic force to gain an edge on the lift. that's not using her shoulder muscles, thats abusing how elastic kinetic force works. the lifts are supposed to be done from a stand still for a reason... same reason they cant unlock their knees or use their feet at all
