Incredible UNSEEN FOOD of AFRICA - Dorze Ethnic Group in Ethiopia!

This is Part 2 of our Ethiopian village cultural food tour. If you haven’t already seen Part 1, you can watch it here:
From the incredible Konso Village, we drove back to Arba Minch in Ethiopia, and then continued driving into the mountains, to a Dorze ethnic people village, high into the misty peaks. This is the village where Dessie is originally from, and also our driver, so they know everyone there. It was amazing to arrive to the village.
One of the amazing parts of Dorze Ethiopian culture are their elephant shaped traditional huts, which are unique and one of a kind, shaped like elephants. One of the main most important foods of the Dorze is false banana, also known as ensete. It’s called a false banana because they plant does not produce banana fruit, but just giant leaves, and you eat the stump.
Aunty made a number of extremely unique dishes, including a false banana porridge, and a false banana pancake, along with coffee leaves tea - something I had never seen or ever heard of before.
Visiting the Dorze of Ethiopia was an incredible culture and food learning experience, and it was an honor to have a chance to visit on this Ethiopian food tour trip.
Thanks to Dessie from Go Addis Tours (goaddistours.com/) for arranging everything on this trip.

So many villages in Africa are considered poor, however I see them as rich in culture and community spirit. Everyone helps for the betterment of their community, they look so happy. Mankind could learn from them rather than killing each other, and consuming more and more. Materialistic world, greed, when there's enough for everyone.

ABSOLUTELY rich. That was my comment before I read your. And it is not only Africa. All over the world. I went to Croatia where they just spread themselves out for me and did anything and everything for me. The same with a village in Romania and Poland. The less-materialistic the world, the better and the more loving the people!

It's the need for the Western & Urban way of living instead of the self sufficient way of native living that to a large extent has resulted in slums, poverty & dying out of centuries old practices. People need to adopt new ways but the use of old ways should be blended in & not forgotten. People used resources from what was locally available but now it's mostly about things not available locally thus creating demands that's not easily & cheaply fulfilled. Where Bamboo & clay could be used for walls now it's plastic, asbestos, etc

Wow this is real traditional life, I'm from neighbouring Kenya and I hardly see huts in our villages, everyone is building modern houses. People don't even use this pounding thing anymore, I never even saw it as I grew up in the city. I'm so impressed by their simple lifestyle! ! The food looks delicious and the people look happy and healthy ☺

I am smiling while watching this video. In Ethiopian culture there is a saying “ from the food they offer you the smile they receive you is more worthy or to that extent ...” when Ethiopians smile and feed you you feel like you are in heaven... because food is important but the true happiness that embraces everyone is more meaningful and it makes you love and appreciate life more... this is what this video represents. Thank you for sharing!!!

I truly enjoy seeing and learning about different foods, ethnic groups, and traditions around the globe. Your videos teach love, honor, respect for all peoples, their ways of life, and their unique cultures. So many groups are unknown, forgotten, or stereo typed. To see the joy on the faces of the people you meet, the pride in their heritage, and the dedication in preserving their ways and traditions is heart warming. It is such an honor to share in your experiences, your journeys, and interactions with others. I look forward to seeing each new video you post.

My parents immigrated from Mexico to USA when I was very young. Every year we visited my grandparents in their tiny village in the mountains of Guerrero Mexico. They had no electricity or running water. We had an outhouse, bathed outside with water you drew from well. Washed clothes by hand. They harvested their own food. Everyone in the village contributed in some way. When it was time to leave I never wanted to come back. I’ve always known that was the true way of life. I wish they never brought me to this capitalist place that conditions you to live with material things you don’t need

Hey Mark if you ever come back to Ethiopia please visit Awasa it’s one of the most beautiful cities in Ethiopia such a hidden gem. Full of delicious food. Very known for their fish up there. And also hot springs. I can be sure your wife and Micah would love it to. Also if you go there check out a place called mamas kitchen she makes the best and greatest ox tail and goat curry you’ll ever taste. Cheers and stay blessed fam.

In 2006 I was very fortunate to work in Ethiopia in a very remote area. The village I was staying in is 400kilometres west of Addis Ababa. I was there as a midwife and what an amazing experience. The Ethiopian people are lovely and greet you with Great warmth. While I was there I took lots of photos and wrote lots of newsletters, what we would call blogs now. In the middle of my 6 months I travelled up north and did the tourist trail and learnt a lot about the history of the country. During Covid I have been reading all my writings and looking at my photos and videos. The technology was not as advanced as it is now. It would be great to revisit the village and see the people again and see if obstetric care has improved. I shall put that on my bucket list. Any body out there wishing to make a documentary get in touch. I have been a midwife in the UK for over 25 years and retired now. While I was in Ethiopia I saw things that I would never have seen in a developed country.

I know people in the comment section mean well when they say they should appreciate they lives more after watching this but I don't agree. You're the one that's living wrong. These people are living right. This is pure living in harmony and together as one. Where we come from it's a mess and unnatural.
