What a flashback 😢 I lived in Ethiopia on and off from Yemen, I lost my wife at the Ethiopian/ Eritrean war in 1998. I left Ethiopia in 1991 during to tension between Mangestu and opposition parties. They were tanks rolling in Addis Ababa. Most of foreigners left, I lost contacts of my late wife until I got to USA then I heard the sad news about her. I’m Tanzanian/ Yemeni. Ethiopia is always in my heart . Beautiful country and great people 🇪🇹

Ethiopia has always been interesting to me, it has a huge orthodox community, if I am not mistaked they were the first in the orthodox religion. Also our most famous russian poet Alexander Pushkin's grandfather was from Ethiopia. And a lot of history. I see people are also very friendly. Gotta visit for sure

He was a Black Bantu from modern Cameroon, not Ethiopia! Stop trying to claim every single person as Ethiopian. You are embarrassing us! Pushkin's family members knew they are of Bantu origin and embarrassed of their slave origins so Alexander Pushkin's son-in-law invented the lie that Gannibal was of Ethiopian aristocratic origin since Ethiopians were not a Black race.

😢 The kindness of that little boy brings tears to my eyes. I'm always proud of my Ethiopian heritage. not to brag because I’m Ethiopian but back in the day all Ethiopian people were very welcoming, generous, loving and very friendly, just like that little boy even if they don’t have anything they give you what they have. the spirit of sharing prevailed. Sadly, it seems such genuine warmth has become rare today, replacing by a sense of fear among people. I miss old Ethiopia!

That is so true. I’m half Ethiopian but my Ethiopian side burns so strong in me. You have to live in Ethiopia, ignore the war, poverty and strife ( all the side shows) to really understand Ethiopia. Then you’re in love for life.

What a beautiful country and beautiful people. The two boys were very thoughtful and communicative. I hope that their country sees peace soon and they can grow into adulthood in a stable, prosperous nation. Thank you for show us this amazing country Tommy!

Overall great content. As an Ethiopian origin living in the state for 15+ years, I understand the concern when the dad left the kid. Just to clarify, the dad left the kid to stay with you because the kid can help you incase if you lost your way back. It's a sign of respect and politeness. Most people do that not only for foreigners but also for someone who visits out side of the city.

There was this brilliant girl in my class back in Ethiopia, out of curiosity I asked her about her ethnicity and she responded “I’m Ethiopian”. I kept asking her but she just kept saying I’m Ethiopian and I understood her meaning and I admired her for it. That was about 10 years ago and it’s never too late to understand that it doesn’t matter what ethnicity one is, at the end of the day everyone is Ethiopian be it Amhara, Oromo, Tigre or any of the 80+ ethnic groups. A fractured country is bound for doom, let’s learn from history and other countries. Stand up united, break the revenge cycle, don’t be short sighted, think of the future generations and aim for peace and equality.

This was so moving. Many people don't know that many Ethiopians are devoted Christians. There are many ancient ruins from the times of Christ and before are there. It is considered the second Jerusalem. Notice how well mannered the children are and the politeness of if's people. It is a jewel of Africa.

I'm Ethiopian and I have no clue what you're talking about. There are dozens of polls and studies about the high religiosity of Ethiopians. Also, there are no "ruins from the times of Christ", there are ruins that pre-date Jesus Christ by 600 years or more and the Lalibela church complex isn't one of them.

My family knows a man who at 16 departed Ethiopia with his mother to England after engineering school he got the bug to become a doctor because of his mother getting cancer. Now in his 50's, an electrical engineer and a lead Doctor at a cancer center in Boston. It's all possible.

The little boy was so kind, as if he wasn't expecting anything in return.

@@erizenm6987 Yes, that moment when the little boy gave each of them a Cross and tied it around their necks as a "parting gift" brought me to tears, because its clear to see that people there have NOTHING ---- and yet, this little boy gave both of them something out of the NOTHINGNESS he had --- his _Love, Generosity and Kindness_ ..... and it angered me and made me sad that this guy was willing to PAY $100 to go see a "church" 😐 Now I dont know about you, but the GOD I believe in isnt short of cash and doesnt need my money ; and I believe that IF God could "speak" to this guy, He would have told him to give all that money to all of those 10 children they encountered along the way! Do you know what $10 dollars or even $1 dollar would mean to those children there? This is how God expects us to ACT --- by GIVING to those who have NOTHING --- not by paying $100 dollars to go see a man-made church. Jesus told his followers to give to everyone who asks (Luke 6:30), to give to those who can't repay (Luke 14:13 - 14) and to freely give what we have freely received (Matthew 10:8). “One thing you still lack. Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me” (Luke 18:22). According to God's Word, there are four fundamental purposes for money: to provide for basic needs, to confirm direction, to give to those in need, and to illustrate God's power and care in provision. I assure you that little boy has God's Kingdom in his heart --- this guy and that woman, do not. Jesus said that WORDS without ACTIONS are meaningless. God Bless that little boy forever, and all the poor children of the world, may God give them Heaven. 🙏

he was not selling his kid. Ethiopia was not colonized and the people don't speak foreign languages. the intention is that the kid will guide you guys to hotel and you pay him for the service. that's common in Ethiopia. this should have been a common sense.

Lalibela is really the 8th wonder of the world. Massive buildings carved from the earth, from the bottom down, 11 of them. All with underground and secret passageways, all built 1000 years ago. Truly incredible African Architecture that is deliberately hidden. It needs to be taught in schools.

❤Growing up in a family that comes from Amhara region they thought me of loving, sharing, caring, forgiving my own kinds ( humans) The only region that only call themselves as Ethiopian even though they are in the war🙌 They don’t hate their country in any situation just like you don’t hate your own mom because she is poor to feed you, One of my favorite word from my family they say “In Amhara household you are a Jesus guest” GOD bless Ethiopia & all his creations Amen 🙏

So travel through the earth, and see what the fate of the deniers was. 16  And mention in the Scripture Mary, when she withdrew from her people to an eastern location. 17  She screened herself away from them, and We sent to her Our spirit, and He appeared to her as an immaculate human. 18  She said, “I take refuge from you in the Most Merciful, should you be righteous.” 19  He said, “I am only the messenger of your Lord, to give you the gift of a pure son.” 20  She said, “How can I have a son, when no man has touched me, and I was never unchaste?” 21  He said, “Thus said your Lord, `It is easy for Me, and We will make him a sign for humanity, and a mercy from Us. It is a matter already decided.'“ 22  So she carried him, and secluded herself with him in a remote place. 23  The labor-pains came upon her, by the trunk of a palm-tree. She said, “I wish I had died before this, and been completely forgotten.” 24  Whereupon he called her from beneath her: “Do not worry; your Lord has placed a stream beneath you. 25  And shake the trunk of the palm-tree towards you, and it will drop ripe dates by you.” 26  “So eat, and drink, and be consoled. Yet they are heedless, and they do not believe. 40  It is We who will inherit the earth and everyone on it, and to Us they will be returned. 85  Whoever seeks other than Islam as a religion, it will not be accepted from him, and in the Hereafter he will be among the losers. Tommy I appreciate what u do, travel is my #1 wish to see all I can! You’re not a war correspondent, u show us the world. I’m worried for you in a John Lennon type way that u are choosing 2 go to war zones instead of just being good ol Tommy in Brazil or Africa or China! U watch yourself Tommy! I did that trip back in 2008 and took the bus all the way up from Addis to Axum stopping off along the way. My memories of Ethiopia will last a lifetime. And the amazing fruit juices.

I am Ethiopian and it's been 4 years since I left Ethiopia. I haven't seen any content so heartwarming and accurately presenting what the community and the culture is like. I saw every minute of the video and it was nostalgic as if I went home. The noise on the streets, in the church, from neighbourhood kids and the birds chirping. Thank you for putting put out an original content. Really enjoyed it.
