I've noticed a concerning mindset among some people in Nagaland - the belief that they are under India's control and were never meant to be part of India. However, this way of thinking is not unique to Nagaland. People in South India, Punjab, Maharashtra, and other parts harbor similar sentiments towards each other. The harsh reality is that every region tends to look down upon or be racist towards other parts of our diverse nation. India thrives on being a combination of varied ethnicities, languages and traditions - not a single monolithic state forcing one mold like China. At the same time, prejudices and divisive mindsets exist across communities. South Indians call North Indians "cow pee drinkers" while North Indians mock South Indian appearance and language. If you think Indians are racist towards you, realize this bias exists everywhere. Moreover, if you believe you are less developed than the so-called "mainland India" states like Uttar Pradesh or Bihar, think again. These states have grappled with severe poverty, unemployment and lack of development for decades. Just being part of "mainland India" hasn't guaranteed their success. There is no such thing as "mainland India" - we are one nation celebrating our vibrant diversity. Getting trapped in these divisive prejudices will only hold us back as a country. We are stronger when we embrace our pluralism and come together as one people.
