Visiting This Country Is Like Going Back In Time! 🇪🇷 (
This place isn't Italy. It isn't Cuba, and it's not the Middle East either. This is Eritrea, and there's nowhere else like it on earth. Due to a history of colonization by Italy and near-constant war with it's neighbor Ethiopia, this country has a very distinctive look--and it feels like it hasn't changed in 50 years.
After visiting the capital city of Asmara, it was time to tour the entire country. We would visit lands that very few foreigners have seen--at least in the last 30 years. Ruins and remains from the Ottomans, Egyptians, Italians and Ethiopians lay waiting to be explored, as if they were destroyed just yesterday. This was one of the most interesting trips I had ever taken.

Tommy, thanks for showcasing what is one of my favourite countries in the world, after a lifetime of travels. I visited Eritrea a dozen or so times between 1997 and 2002, but due to the nature of my work, I will probably sadly not be able to go back in the near future. We ran a student empowerment project at the university of Asmara, and unfortunately most of the participants are now based in the US or in Europe, and last time I tried, I was denied a visa. I would love to visit again, I can feel the scorching heat of Massawa, the history of Keren and all the odd places in Asmara again. This and the previous video took me back 20 years, and also to other places, like Mendefera, Adi Quala, Dekamhare, Assab... Eritrea is a truly unique place, and is a main reason why I kept on travelling all my life.

In the late 90’s a lot of Eritrean women were given work visas in Las Vegas. I worked for a human resource company that was a medical part of that process so I interacted with easily a few hundred of them. They were extremely polite, respectful, and very witty. Many of them spoke more than 2 languages as well. Most of the women very fit and beautiful. They definitely stood out from other women from that continent.

Actually it very old country. Older than Ethiopia. The Name Eritrea given by Italy during colonization. The real name was Medri Bahri also known as Bahri Negash. If you google Medri Bahri you will find the true history. Eritrea is called the gate way to Africa. Islam and Christianity came to Africa around 350 BC ish through Eritrea Red Sea. Many true history. Ethiopia became Ethiopia 1903 ish. Eritrea was a country before that . Little history for those you don’t know Eritrea or Medri Bahri in English:Land of the Sea also known as Midri Bahr, Medre Bahr, Bahr Melash or The territory of the Bahr Negash also know as Adolis the kingdom of Adolis also Punt land and Axumite kingdom was iEritrea.
