I MET A GIRL IN THAILAND! (
Who doesn't love a vacation in Thailand? That was to be my plan, except I didn't have the typical vacation in mind. I had always been fascinated by this area called the Golden Triangle, located on the tri-border of Thailand, Laos and Myanmar. I heard the Chinese had taken over. Sounded great! I wanted to go see what was happening.
I invited a familiar face from Indonesia to join me in Chiang Rai.

Alright. Sabbatical is human. Finally, a language in which he is not fluent and one where I'm slighty better than him. Of course, by next week he'll probably surpass my level of Thai fluency.

I’ve lived and worked in Thailand, and I speak Thai. When I was there in 2011, China came in and updated the infrastructure, for free but for a percent of the profit. So it’s come very far from my Peace Corps days in 2000. (Oh, I also speak Lao. I was based Essan-Khon Kaen). I got hooked on your videos because for the past ten years I’ve been living in Shanghai.

Tommy, you’re a pretty humble & down to earth guy. Enjoy your time in Thailand brother! It looks so nice. I hope to visit sometime soon.
The Chiang Rai area in Thailand is one of the friendliest and beautiful places on the planet. Some magnificent restaurants and eating places. They really look after their roads and as much as possible the infrastructure. Going from LOS ( land of smiles ) Thailand to Laos is an education in itself. Great to see you got the boogie beat at the gas pump mate. Bushyboy Oz.

Dude, I'm so glad you popped up on our feed. You can thank the Department of Rural Roads for the awesome rural roads in Thailand. If only the rest of the world could be like them. Also, Laos was the last place I went before returning to the US for a while and I absolutely loved it there. I can't wait to see the next video!
Sawadee kraap Tommy! You popped up just when I needed to get away from the day to day b.s. that's crossed my path recently. It great to see Maya (not sure I spelled her name right) again. She seems like a great companion to have along. (Hi Maya!) Looking forward to your Lao adventure. Be safe you two. Thanks!
Nice Tommy! She is a keeper, you were smiling through the whole vid 😊. Messed me up a bit when the phone was ringing at the gas station, thought it was mine inside our house! Looking for a Singapore vid, as we are heading there for thanksgiving!

You got to go to Mae Hong son Province, from Chiang Mai, drive 5hours through the mountains to the north of Mae Hong Son to Ban Rak Thai. That place is an amazing place, it's not full of foreign tourists yet, probably because there still aren't many Chinese tourists, but they speak Chinese there. It's amazing.

immerse yourself in the AUDIO like you did as a child. learn the 500 most common words don't worry about conjugation. you will understand me in your language if i use incorrect referencing like past/present/future or mix plurals, we adjust for it all the time but some Indians for example just give up and always MID-Eng. some lose their accent even. but we accept them, all. much easier to be close w someone that bothers to try and learn your language when your willing to help teach them :)

Thank you so much for the advice! That is very true regarding conjugation and such particulars in the English language. Learn the most common basics and the particulars will follow in time.

Enjoy your adventure in Thailand! I just came back from a week's trip in Fujian province, visited Anxi county for a day, a mountain tea KuanYin producing village called Zheng Kheng Cun (located in the mountain region at 620m elevation above mean sea level, about 2 hrs drive from Anxi, really loved it, stayed at a village Toulou (mudhouse) for a night, it is square, a Fujian style private house belonging to a relative of my friend [the Hakka mudhouses are generally round and I had also visited one in Hua'an], also spent 2 days in Quanzhou and 3 days in Xiamen). If you happen to venture south of the Thai border and visit KL, feel free to give me a holler.
I liked that disco gas station. Are you going into Myanmar ?
Just slaying all the Asian girls!! Mad respect 🙏
That big empty road is not in the middle of nowhere for me as it is only a few kilometers from my house. It has really made the drive to town so much easier.
exploring with the girl is the best and most interesting part = you should do more of that . Also, her face is much easier than yours to watch = dialogue is always more popular than monologue.
Enjoy!
I went via Chiang Kong many years ago and it was dodgy involving getting on a long tailed boat and being sent up the river to some casino where I turned around and came back again. Needless to say I was just following the procedure at the time. Now it seems they have a proper boarder crossing!
