In today’s episode of Figuring Out, we have Prashant Desai in conversation with Raj Shamani. He is a longevity sherpa who has studied at Stanford School of Medicine and Harvard Medicine School. His insights on health and nutrition will break a lot of myths today.
In this episode, we talked about how undersleeping increases the chances of cancer, heart attacks, and Alzheimer’s. He talked about Dementia and Alzheimer's, and how sleeping helps in dealing with trauma and muscle recovery. He then talked about the role of sleeping in creativity and finding answers through inner voice. We talked about how much sleep different age groups require and the circadian rhythm in our sleeping patterns.
We also talked about the relationship between sleep deprivation and diabetes and how Alzheimer's is becoming one of the largest diseases globally. Towards the end, he shared his personal story of how he lost his brother and best friend due to heart disease. And ended with debunking myths around ghee, and vaping. At a time when most podcasters are vouching for clickbaity thumbnails and topocs like sex, porn or other political stuff etc etc... as if we don't have enough important topics to discuss . 🤦🏻♂️ Other than Raj and sometimes Ranveer, rest of podcasters are failing us in India.

I am a practising endocrinologist ( someone who deals in metabolism, hormone imbalance, aging and nutrition). This series of health directed podcast are sound effort. But you really need to invite people with more relevant background than just the ones who are more popular on social media. Otherwise, you are almost feeding the circle of misconceptions. Prashant desai sir is a health enthusiast and doing his best in his spare time to keep himself fit and informed about the health updates going around. But his major field being head of strategy and investor relations at burger king india. If only you can appreciate the contrast. So, please take the lessons home, but probably not the science behind it.

It's discriminatory to say that a person without a formal biochemistry educational background can't be correct. Self learning and research is also a thing. Why I'm saying this is because I'm a food technologist myself with many projects and research work on food science and biochemistry to my credit and i can vouch for everything he said. Just one small thing i disagreed with. He said the body does not store protein but the body does. Excess protein is converted into fat cells like every other macro nutrient. So formal educational supremacy is not the be all and end all is all I'm saying.
I feel like you are doing way better job than others in this field keep doing keep growing
