If One machine Fails the Job Try Another One: Modifying a Transmission Yoke To fit Another Use

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In this video I started out using the Monarch to do the job but that didn't pan out so I took the next easiest route and used the Thompson Surface Grinder. Surface Grinders are not generally thought of for removing much metal but they sure can and I don't even have an aggressive stone on mine. This video contains real time of taking 3/8" of material off this yoke. It was way quicker than trying to come up with a better setup to hold it and I was not going to hard after it because i had to use transfer washers to get the part to mag well anyway. I hope you enjoyed the spark show and thanks for Watching!

    Just wondering about how much work it will be to redress the grinding wheel . It did a really nice job on the work piece from what I could see.

    Lots of carbide inserts to beat up cutting hardened materials with a face mill. Grinders are better suited to the hard stuff I think.

    I see 7210 on the rusty one, we replaced ours and the new one was not much tighter. Is your new one to provide more contact on the shaft? I highly suggest a grease fitting install and use spline grease at least once a year, nice feature on a tractor to seperate the rear but high wear area.

  • @bcbloc02

    @bcbloc02

    5 ай бұрын

    Yeah the rust dust really eats up the splines. Using this other yoke Addams another 3/8” of spline contact and it’s mostly on an unworn area so hopefully it will go another 9000hrs without having to pull the power quad to replace the shaft.

    I had some 8.1 heads flowed on saturday. The one we were running has 2.2 valves and it flowed about 385 on the intake. The other one I put in a divider in the intake port and installed a 2.100 valve. Other than that the port was stock and it flowed over 400. The flow bench operator thinks something is wrong with the bench. Have you ever had one flowed? I didnt think they would flow this much.

  • @bcbloc02

    @bcbloc02

    5 ай бұрын

    Yeah the stock valve with good porting normally I see about 360cfm @.750” lift. 400 on a stock port sounds way high as pretty sure when I had a stock 7.6 done way back it was like 250 cfm at about .600
