I Tried To Free My Son From A Grizzly Bear With Just My Bow And Arrow | Fight To Survive | Retold

A lifelong bond of hunting forged between father and son threatened to be pulled apart in the jaws of a Wyoming grizzly bear. Forcing a father to decide: his life or his son's. Will either of them survive?
Fight to Survive tells the inspiring true stories of outdoorsmen who have faced down death in the wilderness and lived to tell their story. Adventurer, author and survivor Craig DeMartino kicks off the series with his own story.

    Risk becoming prey himself?? Of course ! That is ur child always, no matter how old they get they are still ur baby. And in a situation like that, YOU DIE TRYING to save ur babys life, ur son, ur daughter. Until u can not move another muscle, u fight to protect them. And btw absolutely the arrow was guided by God. Without a doubt our father protects us. It is ur faith in God that made it such a perfect shot.

    A bear spray is probably the best defense against bears and I don't understand why seasoned hunters wouldn't be carrying that around when they're in the backcountry but I wasn't in that situation so I don't know the circumstances, I'm just glad that these men survived and that the shot was that friggin accurate! That was definitely God working through him!

    @annalucy89

    What do you think a tiny ass pocket knife is going to do against a huge grizzly? I suppose it's better than nothing but a jab with a knife that small would most likely only anger the bear more and make it more aggressive, plus it's probably very hard to reach for a knife when you're in that situation, let alone trying to stab the bear with it. Bears wounded with an arrow, knife, or firearm may intensify the attack if the shot/hit isn't completely perfect and that's a hard thing to do especially if it's charging at you. A bear spray is the best defense against these animals, it's even been proven to be a better defense than guns in some studies.

    A friend of mine was attacked by a black bear a few years back. It clawed him up pretty badly and bit him but ironically the bites didn't do much damage. As it turned out it was a very old bear with missing and worn out teeth. The bear was also emaciated. It likely attacked him out of desperation because it was starving. The bear was found and shot and it had also been seriously injured in the past and was half crippled. The irony is that black bears are less likely to attack people than grizzlies but black bears almost always try to kill you. Grizzlies are more likely to attack but usually just leave you severely without killing you. At least from what a wildlife expert at a zoo told me. Either way both species can be extremely dangerous.

  • @susananderson1071
    @susananderson10712 жыл бұрын

    Never run from a bear! That triggers their hunting instincts. Make yourself look big, yell. If attacked, try to roll into a fetal position protecting head, face and vital organs. Play dead. No sound, no movement and hold that until the bear has gone for 20+min. In past a person was attacked by a bear. The bear left but not far. The person thought the bear left and let out a slight sound and the bear went right back into attack mode.

    Bears have little short stubby legs in the back and really long powerful limbs in the front so all their mass is forward so going downhill is a bad option they can go so much faster due to their larger size and mass and the shape of their body but going uphill that puts the advantage to the person that has the long legs and the short forearms.

    @@libertyjustice4847 I'm from grizzly country. I don't even bother with bear spray. I've seen bears charge right through it. So yeah. I'm a little critical that these 2 avid hunters would head right into the bears' home without a gun big enough to take down a charging bear. I've been stalked by a grizzly before and charged by black bears several times. They used to roam onto our ranch all the time. The fact that the dad killed a grown grizzly bear with a compound bow during an attack is a really a miracle.

  • @jennyfranklin514

    An incredible shot, I fully agree. My only question is, if God guided the arrow, based on the Prayer, why wouldn't God just divert the Grizzly so that HIS creature would not have to be killedin the first place? How about this as a story; Father & Son, out hunting together... Hunted together for YEARS. Adult Son gets put in the proverbial cross hairs of a Grizzly, which then puts Dad in a position of 'defend & protect'. Dad's senses are fully open; alert, aware, and focused. He draws his arrow with unusual calmness. This shot has to make it's target. This is real. Dad briefly set aside his fears for his Son, and did what needed to be done. I don't think God was involved really, except where a Man had to make a decision; kill his Son so as not to feel the mauling of the Bear, or kill the 'Bear on the fly', in pursuit of his own Son. The Man, the Father did the best he could. No stranger to hunting, he knew where the kill shot was located. Hitting that spot between the strides of a Downhill running Bear, was a slim-to-none shot, but he did it. God was not involved. Lifelong experience, a Father's Love for his child, and Sniper-like Focus. God's only involvement was a Test for these two men.

    Well if this is you questioning God as you said in the beginning. Then why question why God didn’t just test these two . your story is fine for YOURSELF . OK be religious that's your choice but Fight To Survive seems to throw it down our throats , maybe its a US thing but it seriously puts off most of us here in Europe where religious beliefs are a personal choice not a peer pressure thing. There is a reason why we react badly too American religions such as the Jehovah's witnesses and Scientologists banging on our front doors trying to sell us their religion and that reason is that we have endured civil wars over 100s of years over religion!

Might be wise for you to pray that God protects them, and you too ..... instead of defending a brutal wild killer ! Your attitude just might come back and bite you !!!
