I find it interesting that the mother and DIL told James that Alex missed him on his wedding day, but Alex didn’t tell James himself. Other people telling you someone appreciates, misses or values you is not an acknowledgment from that person. The message DIDN’T come from Alex, therefore he DIDN’T acknowledge James. Alex’s behavior is the same as always. If Alex did ask where James was it was probably because he was STILL expecting James to pay for the wedding, and being there would have meant that he had agreed to pay. James stood up for himself, but I think he is desperate for Alex’s acknowledgment, and for his wife to be happy, so he is grasping at any positive words from others in regards to Alex; which is why others claiming that Alex supposedly missed him made James take it as an acknowledgment from Alex. Sad actually.

Family blending is difficult and it can’t be forced, however when the disrespect is blatant and abusive it needs to be addressed. There should be consequences for bad behavior he’s an adult and getting married. How much hand holding does an adult need?
