Compromise only works when both side are willing. Such toxic people wouldn't compromise and that led to the estrangement. They felt so entitled to everything and they got nothing in the end.

What on earth was up with those parents. Unbelievable. How dare they ask her to turn over her business to a brother because he needs it. It’s not just some thing you can do she build that shop. Turned it into what it is. And the parents wanted the brother to take over and have her just walk the floor no way, those parents something wrong with them seriously wrong with them. Your daughter builds a business. It wasn’t in luck. She worked at that place for seven years learning everything she needed to know then she bought the guy out when he retired and she expanded the business in that place made it bigger And you wanted her to turn it over to her good for nothing brother. Maybe if he had gone to college like he was supposed to instead of taking his college fun and playing around he might’ve been able to get himself some kind of job where you didn’t have to try and steal Your daughters business. And once again, stop treating your children differently there is no golden child they both your children treat them equally love them equally. If you notice in all of the stories where there’s a golden child where the parents put everything into it, the golden child seems to fall flat on their face, needing help from the one that everybody snicker that saying you’ll never amount to anything. They are the ones are usually amount of some thing not the golden child.

That is how many parents view the gender difference between males & females. That daughters are to hand over anything the sons want. No matter how much sweat and tears the daughter had in order to bring something to fruition. To them, those daughters will never be as good as the sons are in their eyes.

I’m just afraid the brother would run it to the ground and destroyed everything the sister work so hard to build. First: He has no experience in management or in the automotive mechanic industry field. Second: He’s lazy and lack work ethic. (School dropout and can’t get a job). Third: He didn’t build it from the ground up and was given freely so sees very little value in the shop. He wouldn’t be passionate about running it. Forth: She already sees the direction she wants to take the shop. He would not have means or ability to take it there. Fifth: Sixth: Seventh: Yeah the shop will just be ruin in his hands.

I have a similar, yet different story. My parents were utter A-holes. I was the 3rd out of 4 children. They coddled my youngest brother and made my life a nightmare. I ended up leaving home at 18, during my Junior year of High School. I went to school and worked. I had rent, car payment, utiliities, and food to pay for. Fast forward, I did 21 years in the Army, have 5 educational degrees and have accomplished on my own, without my crappy parents. I still talk to my folks, but will never forget all of the crappy stuff they did.

I went through similar (although my younger brother wasn't coddled like the one in this story!), and I also left home at 18. Looking back, I believe my successes were due to my fighting spirit which I may not have had if I had been treated differently. It looks like you've done really well in your life, for which you should be applauded. Whilst writing, I would like to add that, although I'm not from your country (but still on the same side!), I thank you for your service.

I frequent my local bike shop, and have even lent a hand sometimes. The owner's son is a real piece of work who was caught making out business checks in his father's name and cashing them. And then he got a "No one steals from my dad but me" attitude due to some later incident I don't have details on. But I can say this from being in that shop. Sometimes it's better to buy a used bike from them. Because most new bikes are bought at Walmart. But at a bike shop, they might have something of a much better brand that's used for a similar price.

Many families cater to a ne'er do well child while the others work hard to gain any little bit of recognition. It is not uncommon. My friend's brother was in and out of prison when we were kids (I never knew why he was "away on vacation" so much, lol), skipped out on bail after his parents put a second mortgage on their house to get him out, and they still praised him while it was the oldest son who was paying their bills.

Whether both parties could find a compromise or not if her brother doesn't have the knowledge or the skills to run a car maintenance service, then she has every right to say no. Cause he wasnt trying just taking over her business he was taking everything she accomplished on her own without aid of family then there parent's told there son that he owns the place without going through paperwork or going through court to try to claim ownership of a car mechanic business yeah she made the right call to let the police take him away and try to prevent anyone else take what she built after puting her blood, sweat, and tears into owning that business. I was glad her parents didn't show up for the expension party cause things wouldn't have gone their way if they did.

That's good when you have your own house, and what if you don't? My family keep on taking away my stuff, including money, "because my brother (or my sister) needs it more than I do". If I resist, stand my ground and fight back (sometimes physically), they would just take it away regardless in my absence and have me face the fact that it's gone and I must accept it.

Compromise only works (mostly) when both parties are willing to meet each other halfway. If bro wanted into the business, he could've applied to sweep the floors and do the scut work all businesses have; not much, but it would be a start. He'd have to prove himself, a lot, before being offered any greater responsibility. If he did that with relatively little complaint, he definitely start coming out ahead in reality instead of in his own mind.

I think she did the most rightful choice her biological family most especially her parents was not fair enough on giving her true love, care and support as their child, and when she was old enough, she use this as a tool in life to overcome the every hardship that lead her to success. And when she so successful her family who have no any particular contribution for what she achieve, are trying to take that away from her, just for the sake of them his unreliable, selfish and good for nothing younger brother. Once for all she provide and establish her own source of income all by herself, so it is not a family business, but all her own well establish business, so their is no one not even her own family could simply take that away from her, and she have all the right to do everything, in order protect for what is rightfully for her, and for her alone.

Like she is trying to defend herself while giving herself pats on the back. And the way she described her relationship whit the person she hired . "She returned my smile while wiping the sweat from her brow. That sounded love story-ish . And as the sun settled it show my accomplishment etc...etc... etc. Sound more like a writing point than anything. Again I am not taking away anything she went thru . I think she made the right decision. But I think that she need to talk to a therapist cause by the sounds of how it is wrote she is beating herself up mentally.

STUPID STORY, WHAT HAPPENED TO THE FAMILY, WHY DIDNT SHE MADE HER POINT OF VIEW MORE CLEAR, NOT JUST EXPELLING THE LOSER BROTHER, BUT SHAMING THE UNFAIR PARENTS AND SHOWING HOW UNFAIR THEIR WAYS WERE AND WONDER ABOUT THE REASON, MAYBE SHE IS THE DAUGHTER OF AN AFFAIR. IDIOTIC STORY, WITH RIDICULOUS MORALISTIC ENDING AND STUPID QUESTIONS BY THE RIDICULOUS AUTHOR.
