I was an Armor officer in the army, learned on M48's, M60's and later M1A1 Abrams and drove almost every track available...PC's, M88's, Artillery, Mortar, etc - changing a track is tough, putting a track back on is crazy, as well. 70 miles per hour would be fun - M1A1 Abrams is slated at 45 mph+...got my heart thumping again...miss being around tanks and diesel, but, jet fuel is a great smell...makes the track run faster....thanks for this video...now, go jump in an Army tank...powerful and agile. Hooah!

I just love it 34years ago we had fun like that , military testing and trying to brake the Rooikat from South Africa. We had 4 vehicle's, 4 Crew each vehicle. This was in the development stages of the vehicle, if it brake it must be improved, thus an amazing vehicle at the end. The Rooikat was a 8 wheel 8x8 the 4 front wheels steering. This vehicle was doing 95Km/h bundu bashing and 165Km/h on the highway. This was pushing it to the limits. Going over trenches 2 meters wide just cruzing at full throttle. Sand dunes in the desert was an absolute rollercoaster ride. Fling over the top of a dune and coming down only touching the far rear wheels basically smashing the undercarriage of the vehicle on the bottom of the dunes. Just a bounce and continue to fly over the sand . 28tons of armor vehicle felt like a porsche flying through bush or sand. That was my amazing thrill and never experienced that again in my life , bike rides at 280Km/h or cars @260Km/h just not the same 😂 lol I know how you feel, a kid in a magic moment. I just love your experience with your crew/ friend's Awesome 👍😎

All this talk about a 'clutch-release system' on the rear end...When i first saw the Howe brothers Ripsaw videos back many moons ago, when they were first starting out and playing with their radio-controlled tracked vehicle (I refuse to call it a 'tank'), I knew they were using a (heavy-duty) stock open differential. Brake one side, power shunts through the spider gears in the third member and goes to the other track. Just like in a car. The wheel that has the least traction spins while the other sits there. I imagine they broke alot of differentials that way, making a factory part handle all that torque.

I recommend that you test drive a Sherp, this rig is very cool, but a Sherp will not get stuck or sink, in the worst bog you've ever been in. They have Diesel engines too 🙂

The only thing that I could think for the Rip Saw in it's military application would be a GAU 8 center mounted on top.
