This is a great example of how important it is to assess the situation. Extreme weight can result in serious damage. Using common sense and knowing the strong hook points of a vehicle is crucial to recovering a vehicle properly.

Agree completely. Don't EVER hook to a receiver without checking on the weight rating of it. That receiver was probably rated to pull 8k-10k at the very most. That wasn't ever going to be a suitable recovery point for this situation since that RV is probably thirty to forty thousand pounds.

Observation: If they were first lifted from the rear axel and filled in the holes, maybe even swung it over alittle to some firmer material, then go to the front and lifted it from the axel adding just a little power when the pulling started ,then the damage might of been too severe. Doing things "gently" could result in a better outcome.🤔

Thank you SO MUCH for helping our family! After trying and digging all day long, we did not know how we were going to get that motorhome out. We don't think we would have gotten out without your help. You were a blessing and a miracle to show up as you did - giving. your time, talents and resources without asking anything in return. When we showed up out of the blue to ask for help, you didn't hesitate and said you would be there in a few minutes. You came back TWICE to help. even early Sunday morning, with all of your massive equipment - even when that meant taking time away from your families. AND then you took us up in your Black Hawk helicopter for our grandson's birthday! WOW! Thank you for that incredible experience, your huge generosity and your big hearts. It is inspiring. Please don't do this "swing it" stuff. In this video, there was several situations you created, maybe because of lack of planning. You might have: -Planed for an exit, before having the RV in tow. -Inspected the tow-hitch, so maybe you have decided otherwise. -Used radios, so maybe the parking break lock could be avoided. -Stopped at first chance to re-rig, to then exit out the best way. -Correct materials to have under the outriggers and could rest the RV on, so you could safely re-rig. -Secured the RV, so it could look safe to crawl under, to attach to the axle. Sorry, but this video looked lacy, and we all know you can do better.

This is reminding me of a situation where our son got the tractor stuck in a muddy field on the farm. (We were out of town). His buddy went to get his daddy in law's larger truck to pull it out. It got stuck. They called a tow truck. It got stuck. A bigger tow truck was called and almost got stuck, but he unhooked and refused to try further. He still had difficulties getting out of the field. So there were in a line> a tow truck, a very large pick up truck, and the tractor. By then it was dark and our son gave a call to the manager's office of where we were. (before cell phones). Needless to say, we had an unexpected night trip home. The next morning, my husband got the old pull-a-long that his late father used on the farm. He put pullley around a couple trees. There were enough thick rope and cables to reach. First it was used to get the tow truck out. Then more cable and out came the big pick up truck. Then the tractor-which was axle deep, was with much effort successful in getting the tractor out. There were some mighty huge ruts in that field that took years of repair before being able to be productive again. That field was named for our son. Initially he just fell backwards in it before making the initial call, thinking he may as well use this as his burial as he knew his a$$ was grass from this debacle.

The Chev got stuck and the Ford got stuck But the Chev unstuck when the Dodge showed up But the Dodge got stuck in the tractor rut, Which eventually pulled out the Ford With some difficulty Well more rain than we?d seen for a thousand years Caused financial joys and biblical fears It caused some smiles it caused some tears But more to the point of our story For The first time in the collective memory, That old brown prairie that had been so dry for so long was very muddy Boggy and sticky We?d pull one truck out and get another stuck in And motors would roar and tires would spin We?d sink right down, down to the diff, and we?d all take turns and do it again Till no one could move, we?d call one more friend, Come on out here, we need you?bring your truck The Chev got stuck and the Ford got stuck But the Chev unstuck when the Dodge showed up But the Dodge got stuck in the tractor rut Which eventually pulled out the Ford And the Dodge They got me stuck in the mud, so they couldn?t rehearse And Chavase too has missed his work Richie, he now fears the worst, he stood up his ex wife she called him a jerk Course Holman didn?t have nothing better do to, ?cept ranch. The Chev got stuck and the Ford got stuck But the Chev unstuck when the Dodge showed up But the Dodge got stuck in the tractor rut Which eventually pulled out the Ford Well it was truck after truck, we all got stuck ?cept the big old four by hutterite truck We all thought ?lord are we in luck!? But he wouldn?t come anywhere near us, Mighty neighborly, mighty neighborly. So we used a lot of our backs, a little of our brains We jacked up the jacks, and snugged up the chains, We all did our very best to refrain from shovelin?. We put what timber we had, underneath the wheels And we was all out of sand, but managed to steal Two sacks of the best modern canola seed you ever did see, That ?oughta give us some traction The Chev got stuck and the Ford got stuck But the Chev unstuck when the Dodge showed up But the Dodge got stuck in the tractor rut Which eventually pulled out the Ford We spilled genetically modified canola seed That was genetically modified for controlling the weeds And for big old yields and margarine oil, raised hell all over that native prairie soil Agriculture Canada is definitely gonna be looking for us

In the beginning of the vid he says that the owner had some help attempting recovery before Dave and crew showed up and that he didn’t create the damage you see. The receiver did get pulled off, but it’s entirely possible it was failing before Dave attempted a kinetic pull. Judging by the damage beforehand, it’s a high possibility.

We have carried many sheets of 1 inch plywood on a trailer for jobs like this one. Lifting it and putting it on a couple sheets lined up in a path back to hard pack works for cement mixers. Lifting it a little with your riggers up and pulling at the same time sometimes helps. Of course no bungy effect doing this.
