Another awesome video! Love it when the "big dog" gets used. Here's a little trick for getting the M1070 HET into low range. Keep a little pressure on the transfer case handle towards Low, use your other hand to quickly bump the transmission from Neutral to Drive and back to Neutral again, should slide right into Low, no problem. Let me know if it works for yours. Absolutely love HETs, was in the 377 Transportation Company (Platoon Sergeant and Truckmaster) at Fort Bliss, Texas for six years, BEST UNIT IN THE ARMY!! Amazing work! It also shows why you don’t take big motor homes like that off pavement. I saw a video a while back of a lady with a motor home similar to that parking it for a week in her son’s backyard to visit. When she went to leave she was stuck. They had to call a wrecker service to pull it out and put pieces of plywood under the tires to get it to move.

Good recovery. I would have set the CTIS on "Mud, Snow & Ice", transfer in low, tranny in low and feathered the throttle as needed. I drove the HET M1070 & M1000 tractor/trailer combo in Iraq back in 2003/2004. My unit logged in over 2.2 MILLION mission miles. We hauled everything heavy armored like the M1 Abrams MBT (combat loaded), the M88 tracked armored maintenance recovery vehicle, and a whole lot more. I like how you repositioned the 55K lb winches to the rear. I also see you have the NBC hoses still in place in the back of the inside cab. They are to hook up to your protective mask, using the vehicle's filtration system while driving in a NBC environment. Love the HET and miss driving it. The cable hanging down just behind you is to turn your bask seat in to a double sleeping bunk. After releasing the back rest, you pull it up to the cable and loop it around the bolt. Good luck on your many adventures and keep it safe👍😎

There are two schools of thought on off road recovery: relatively lightweight recovery vehicle that uses kinetic energy to "pop" a vehicle up and out trailer included - then the heavy way with an over-the-top Oshkosh recovery vehicle doing a very slow drag of the stuck vehicle and trailer separately. Given the size and stuckness of this RV the heavy way won today.

We use to pull old Russian tanks out of the farmers lands of Iraq (they were abandoned by the Iraqi forces). The M1070 is definitely a beast.

@@jaxxtenmarkko8489 Depends which one we're talking about. The Abrahm M1 Abraham's tank weighed around 67 tons empty (about 69 tons with a combat load, and about 75 tons if the plow was added. The tanks we pulled out of the mud in Iraq were old Russian T-62s and BMPs and those are nothing like the M1 Abrahams (they are lighter). I'd say the (wild guess here) BMP was about 15-20 tons, and the T-62 was about 35-40 tons.... Keep in mind the mud makes them "weigh more" due to the dragging resistance. Still the M1070 bobtail can easily pull these tanks bcuz of it low gear transmission. Like I said, it's a beast. I so want to buy one.... Here's something to think about. The M1070 tractor weighs about 20 tons, the trailer to pull the M1 tank weighs about 25 tons, and the M1 Abraham's tank with plow and combat load 75 tons. 120 tons. That's what this tractor's potential is like. We drove many missions like this thru Iraq, in 140F degree weather, and we even went thru steep climbs and descents in the mountains (outside of Mosul, Iraq).... It's not fast (max speed 48 mph), but it will haul heavy loads.

Need to haul that HET on a Front Load Lowbed / RGN (Removable Gooseneck) trailer to make loading/unloading safer and easier! That way it's not so high in the air when driving on and off the traler, has a low chance of flipping, the center of gravity is down closer to the ground when hauling making driving and turning safer for the driver pulling it, and your height clearances are lower for going under overpasses, bridges, power lines, trees, etc!

I always thought this is the kind of wrecker "Matt's Off Road Recovery" was going to build. I lived in the area and it is not just the sand you have to watch out for but the clay as well because when it gets wet it turns to pig snot and sucks up in the tread of tires making the tread worthless. Might as well be driving on bald tires. The Green Machine is awesome.
