Heck of a recovery 👌 Maybe some drop down legs on the rear of the wrecker would help when only using the boom/ winches to lift. With legs seated firmly on the ground you could get full use of the hydraulics & winches, without giving up that much to the suspension. Just a thought 🤷‍♂️. Great video, keep em coming !

Hydraulic spaded outriggers on swivels. Line them up against the load and set them in. This will give you a ‘Firmer Foundation’ and move your center of balance even farther to the rear, helping keep your nose on the ground.

Paul how about adding a couple of hydraulic cylinder spades to the rear of the wrecker. It would do a couple of things, dig in and add extra pulling power and second prevent the wrecker from tipping. They could be attached in such a way, that they would pivot up to get out of the way when not needed, By nesting in some channel iron when turned down, it would add extra strength.

Shorten your boom Paul. That's called ' cantilevering. Long boom , less lifting power. Your extending boom is excellent but without front weights, you are like a crane without back boom weight. Your truck is amazing. I have a big truck with extending 40' boom and big Tulsa hydraulic winch. You did good with that much weight.

Maybe one on each side. The idea comes back to me when watching the off road recovery vids, wondering it it's even remotely feasible..

When I was 6 years old, I sometimes got to go out on a wrecker call with my step-granddad. He drove an old, well maybe not so old back in 1954, as it was a 48 Studebaker wrecker. Once we went out and the car that went off the mountain road went pretty far down a ravine. The wrecker would lift the front wheels off and granddad called for the 4 heaviest fellows to jump on the front bumper. Wheels back down and wrecker pulled the car out. Wish there were go-pro's back then so I had a record of those days. They were the best days of my childhood.

    - you could - it is merely another ?X? pounds (kg) of additional weight on a light truck... getting purty heavy there.. a 6 way stinger can be used as an outrigger - if the mast is doing the hauling - more commonly used on tilt trays (roll backs)..

I've never seen a truck with a trailer pulled at the hitch like that before at 18:45. That was a pretty cool maneuver.

Great job , but a note to the tow truck operator , the closer the boom head is to the truck , the higher the lifting capacity and the less chance of the front wheels lifting . I drove cranes for a few years in my younger days , it is all about the leverage due to distance from the pivot point . The closer to the pivot point the greater the leverage . In this case the pivot point is the rear wheels of the tow truck .

Good filming and good editing on a tedious recovery. Well done, all!

Paul, I wasn't there so this is just from what I see but next time you might find it a little better to keep the boom as fully retracted as possible. That will keep it from rotating the front end up so easily. Again, I am not there but have run hydraulic boom wreckers many years ago. Not exactly in those situations though. LOL.

Love Your Videos, Tip from a Wrecker operator, leave your boom short and park closer with the same setup you would've gotten it the first time 😋

If I ever get in trouble, I want Paul Cox to show up. He rolls up, hasn’t the faintest idea what to do but makes it up on the fly, doesn’t get ruffled, calm demeanor, instills confidence, gets the job done with quiet humor, and downplays his success with an aw shucks manner. Yeah, I want him to show up.

Paul I'm sorry to say that I think you need to watch a video on how to actually use a recker boom. Having your boom fully extended like that was the whole issue. All you had to do is bring your boom back down and keep it as low as possible and you would have had no trouble doing exactly what you wanted to do. Having your boom extended all the way like that is why your front wheels came off the ground as soon as you put any tension on those wenches. You were putting your leverage in the wrong place

I don't know what the problem was... the trailer was light... it was written right on it. The fine print: lighter than a double-wide. Great job getting that out. Looked darn near impossible at first.
