What a great idea! And then if you want to link boards together I guess you can just get creative and make some shallow hills with a slot for the frame and it'll create a lovely hilly landscape without seeing any seams. Or doesn't have to be hills I suppose, could be anything that fits the theme like ruins or highways or whatever.

This is genius, man! A few years ago I had a pair of 3'x4' boards that I used for a full up 4'x6' and stored them by just tossing them up on some milk crates to serve as a table for other hobbies and jobs but they were flat and boring when out for some games. This idea of yours has a load of potential and while our walls are already crowded with my art, I bet I could sneak a battle field or two in there eventually.

A great idea. Look forward to seeing how you develop it. My current plans for gaming boards is to use a couple of laser cut model railway boards I got for a project that has been paused due to moving, being 3x2ft a couple should be sufficient and they're very light and don't need a table (which is handy as we currently have no dining table!) As I have trestles for them, but integrated legs will probably happen at some point. Storage is still something to figure out though, but a few options are possible.

Great idea. Only downside I see if you are gonna combine boards where the frame is higher than the board. I guess what you could do is make the board flush with the frame and maybe have some thin bits of mdf to Velcro onto the frame edges or just the corners to keep it off the wall when you have it hung up? Would be better for playing across 2 or 4 combined. you still have the problem of basically having the frame make a grid running through the board
