Skip a step if you get 50% isopropyl alcohol and use that fluid to make your 50-50 mix of PVA and water, just use the 50% isopropyl instead. In effect you get 50% PVA, 25% isopropyl, 25% water.

This is what I think every time I see this process. Is this true?? Along those same lines, I've wondered if it would be prudent to add the first basecoat of brown paint into the final plaster/modeling compound, for speed but also so that chipped plaster just reveals more basecoat rather than stark white.

I love how this captures the look of 2001 Games Workshop, but not cartooney or tacky. Probably because the flock doesn't look radioactive! Really nice build :)

Pumpkin stems make great DIY tree trunks and now is the time of year to start looking for them. Look for ones that are at least 3 inches tall so a human sized mounted model can be played under the lowest branches. I've made some of the most realistic and durable trees by using them this way.

woodland scenics remain the gold standard in terrain making, they do a nice little paint set specifically for colouring plaster in earth tones for cliffs etc that's really good. also, never thought I'd be telling other people to buy this as I only got it because it was 2nd hand and cheap, but their little vacuum they sell with filters so you can get all the flock back that doesn't glue so you don't waste it, actually works!

I love your line "Mother Nature doesn't give a $#!^ so why should you"! So many people think every minute detail has to planed out and done oh so perfectly and miss out on the randomness that is nature. It's ok to plan out what general area you wont to put something so long as your willing to let flocking fall where it may.

Thats a really nice board that dude, I made a couple of little shelf terrain things for my wall to display my age of darkness stuff the other day, and used foam clay to taper the various planes, similar to how you would use modelling compound. It doesn't hold fine sculpting well and it looks like fine styrene balls on the finish but it is really really light! with a little sand glued over it it looks great, and it can save a lot of weight if you want to make some light weight stuff for transporting :)

@@MSPaints yeah 15 quid for 560g is a bit steap, but it's nice to use in my opinion, the fact it's relatively clean and easy to use is also a bonus and if you're just using it to blend together platforms on rock formations made of styrene sheets, it'll go a surprisngly long way.
