Doug, I was in the same boat back in 2020. 630lbs. I was also living with my parents. I had a lot of medical complications. It felt like my world was ending. Not saying it’s going to be easy but the moment you decide to put yourself up first, it’s the moment you’ll change for the better. You got this brother. It starts with walking. It tons of protein and veggies. No more junk foods. Water! Water! Water! I’m currently 320. Lost 310 and I’m still losing weight. It takes time and dedication.

Right? I've actually lost weight due to Covid but I ended up getting $600 in food stamps and bought too much food and over are it. Now that I barely have any money I'm really really glad so I don't over eat. It's actually healthy to fast. But yes I've literally been snacking on foods and I'm not trying to say this just to mirror the poor guy I was just talking to my ex about it how I am over eating a lot lately. Luckily if I do over eat a lot and it's acidic it tends to build up and I get horrible gerd. Now I feel stupid because I had those crappy frozen pizzas that are so unhealthy. I think in my head I want to feel sick so that someone can take care of me because I'm lonely so maybe subconciously that's what Doug is doing also. Plus I'm an introvert so I like to stay in doors but when I get a job I hate it everyone always tends to be the same with the gossip, harassment, anal passive aggressive manager, I tend to just run which is a trauma response soooooo I think Doug should try and figure out why he keeps gaining all of this weight but it sounds like loneliness to me. Plus he feels worthless. You're not alone Doug I'm not working and am behind in rent and my ex boyfriend is 40 years old and still lives with his parents his whole family lives together. I also fall into a deep depression because everything here in CA is so expenssive so it's environmental for me. I'm really rooting for this guy big time when I heard his voice I started to cry like I said we all struggle with something. Rooting for you also!

@@JB-pd3ir Even though I'm the "man with the words for everything", you've got me truly speechless. The fact that what I said resonated with you truly touches me. To be honest with you, I've only really copied my ideas from a bunch of different sources, but I swear that everything I said was truly in my own words as I understood the source material. All that to say, I'm glad that you've found some comfort in the things that have comforted me. If I could make some recommendations of GENERAL topics to check out that I love? (Also keep in mind, no belief system is "perfect", I just like to take the "good points" from them) I was raised Roman Catholic so I always really vibed with most of the stuff that Jesus (allegedly) stood for in the King James New Testament. A bunch of good stuff like Suffer little children, Whatsoever you do to the least of my brothers, etc I also enjoy Stoicism, particularly the works of Marcus Aurelius. When he tucked his kids into bed each night, he told himself that neither his children nor himself are guaranteed to survive the night so this may be the last moment he ever gets to spend with his children. And you better BET that he savoured every moment of it. Finally, I enjoy the Buddhists. Specifically "Life is suffering". What it means is something like "Doesn't matter how good you have it, there's always gonna be something that you struggle with. Having to face a struggle doesn't determine who you are as a person. HOW you face that struggle is what defines who you are."

I’m so impressed that Dr. John asked Doug when it was the last time that he had human touch. Yeah such a beautiful heart, Doug. Sometimes it just starts with small steps, Doug. I think that the six months of therapy that Dr. John suggested will definitely help. They are also really simple things that you can do, which is that you don’t drink your calories. Basically, you’d have water, and then unsweetened tea and unsweetened coffee. Put in a splash of milk if you like, but absolutely no creamers. Stay away from soda and avoid deep fried foods. A lot of restaurants have grilled meat options or even baked options so I’m hoping that shouldn’t be too hard. Get most of your carbs from beans and frozen vegetables. Dry or canned beans are pretty. Inexpensive and so are frozen vegetables which can be much cheaper than the ones sold in the fresh section. That doesn’t mean that you can never have your favorite foods, but do you want to avoid the things that are not so good for you as much as possible. I hope you have a swimming pool facility near you, Doug. It can be a great exercise choice, and it will put a lot less strain on you than other types of exercise. Also, walking is a good choice as well. You can do this, Doug. Sometimes it just starts with small changes to your life. I also recommend prayer in your life. You probably do it already and now we even have apps for that so that you can journal and keep yourself accountable. How long is my favorite one but there are lots of them out there. Also find one or two good friends in your area to walk alongside you. I don’t live in your area, but I want to be your friend. You can do this, dad.

I've been struggling also I could only get one day of work in. I talked to a social worker at my apartment complex and she first said I can only work part time then she said I couldn't work at all. I'm frusterated because I still feel like I can work my thing is I'm just emotional and angry so I've been trying to deal with that. So it's stress related! And some people get SSI for life and do drugs all day and night and for some reason I've been focusing on healthy goals and don't want to do even weed or alcohol...not sure what has changed really but I'm taking time on things (positive) that truly matter. That's what Doug should focus on and looks like he has a ton to do now like read, call his therapist, look up that actor, exercise so he is set. My new addiction is over eating and I absolutly hate it so sometimes it's getting out of the house because he's poor so what is he going to do go out and eat at a resturant? He is unable to. But for me getting out of the house, reading, The Finch App, doing uber eats with my friend, watching inspiring videos, cleaning my house, exercising, relaxing when I do work, dancing, listening to inspiring music, learning a new skill, going on job interviews, etc help a lot.

Doug I don’t know if you’re reading this but you can absolutely do this. You have a heart of gold and the world needs you if not for yourself do it to serve the people who need you. I can’t imagine how isolating your experience has been but you can make your story something that can change the lives of so many not only yourself. God put you here for a reason and sometimes it takes an extreme circumstance to make an incredible impact on the world. From the way you speak from your heart I can tell you have it in you. God bless you on your journey. You called into the show for a reason, never forget that. You want your life to change now just let actions follow and truly only you can hold yourself accountable to live the change each and every day. Each and every day you will need to check in with yourself to be steadfast on your goal of the smallest wins and keep compounding those small wins with gradually bigger wins. Your life is not over Doug. Do not resign yourself to this condition you are currently in. Your body wants to survive and thrive.

I felt the same way for years until I one day just did what I had to do. I wasn’t 630 lbs but I was still pushing 400 lbs but I felt terrible everyday. I ended up getting bariatric surgery done and I’m now down to 180 lbs and feel better than ever. I can now physically work more myself and I’m in a better place financially too. I hope this guy can get Medicaid and start getting the help he needs with his health before it gets worse. There’s help out there in many different ways when it comes to this stuff but it starts with you to accept and follow through with the help.
