@WilliamTeach17 I shoot recurve and take midnight hikes through dark city parks with my nvgs. But the idea that you could pack your camping gear on horses and lead a group out and up into the middle of nowhere literally never occurred to me. It still bewilders me that you can go hunting, and fishing, let alone consider those normal parts of life as opposed to some exotic and obscure hobby. I wish I could impress upon those of you raised around even a fraction of this just how inconceivable it is to those raised in a city. It's been taken from those of us. Buried and hidden. We have to rediscover it all as a concept before even undertaking it - without the guidance and culture that through osmosis makes it common to you. Literal epiphanies when you realize that wait, you're an American - and there's a second amendment - so wait, does that mean you can own a gun? Wait, I think I can, let me look it up. Oh wow, I can, woah. You just don't know how lost we are. And it feels more than a little on purpose.

Male and from the Chicago suburbs...can confirm his statement. I want to learn how to hunt though. Why I love having older sisters...my sister literally almost drove from another state when my ex threatened to take my dog to confront her. She just said "I'm getting your dog back" and I just heard the phone hang up lol. Yes, cause you don't have pullies like you would on a compound bow.

  • @GaryLiseo

Accuracy is doable, but less likely because she had much less experience with that bow and those arrows. Also not sure the apple would’ve stayed with the arrow. Kind of want to test that

I took my son and daughter hunting. My daughter got her .243 up but just couldn’t take the shot. She told me she was ok to see me shoot and dress a deer, but every time she got the deer in the scope, she saw Bambi. She still has her rifle, and if she never shoots a deer, I’ll always give her meat from what I take.

I agree that they said hunting is a very emotional experience. When I shot my black bear, adrenaline was pumping from the time the call came on the radio that the bear was up the tree all the way until that bear was quartered and put in the cooler. Every deer I've shot, I fight to maintain composer and patience when getting ready to pull the trigger. But once that trigger is pulled, excitement runs freely.

I'm not sure what she means recurves are harder to shoot? Like harder for her because she doesn't use them, or is she suggesting that they're harder overall? Love my recurve bows. Of course, out of all my archery stuff, the crossbow is still hella fun to shoot. lol Recurve takes more skill, and strength. That comes with repetition though. Compounds I think are easier for some people because of the mechanical in it, the easier full draw and hold, the level of mods you can add to it, etc. I mean, my 55# recurve has a balance, target points, etc, but it's still a 55# draw weight that gets harder the more you pull.

If you're with an adult there is no age restriction. In some states there's even no restriction on age for owning a gun. Recurve is just as easy a compound as long as you're not holding it. Also everyone should know how to swim, if not at least learn how to be rescued without killing the person rescuing you. Your instinct will be to choke them and hold them under, don't. Luckily for my big sis I didn't know that ahead of time, luckily for us both I swim underwater more than above.

I mean I've seen some mental gymnastics but this is literally a self professed hunter who not a minute ago was crowing over how cute it was for children to shoot animals and is now talking about how bad it is they show this to children? Not all hunters are ethical or good people. There are a lot of shitty people out there.
