On a hunt where you can get eaten by the biggest apex predator on land if you make mistakes, it’s a good idea to prepare thoroughly to minimize the potential for getting dead. Join Black Rifle Coffee’s Evan Hafer, Mat Best, and Logan Stark - veterans, business partners, and friends - as they prepare to set out on an extreme brown bear hunt deep in the Alaskan backcountry.
First, we take a deep dive into Stark’s .375 Ruger rifle setup and then follow along as he preps for the big hunt by completing the Sportsman’s All-Terrain All-Weather Marksmanship (SAAM) training program at the FTW Ranch shooting and training facility in Barksdale, Texas.

Brown bears are less dangerous than grizzlies. Pretty well known. They are well fed with salmon and used to other bears and human spectators. Grizzlies live inland and don’t have abundant food. They get bit by mosquitoes a lot and are pissed off and ready to eat anything.

Some friends of mine and I were river boating in central alaska, the goodpasture. We stopped on a section of river getting ready to turn back when something grunted. We looked over and a cinnamon bear was standing on the bank staring right at us. Scared us, scared him and that thing ran about 30 or 40 feet up a tree faster than I could have kissed my ass goodbye. He then grunted at us from up a tree, kind of sounded like a big pig with a cold. Brown, black, grizzly or hybrid. They are all dangerous and impressive creatures.

Only natives can hunt them in Alaska. Canada allows US citizens to go over there to hunt them but its insanely expensive and you cant bring any part of the bear back to the states.
Brown bears and Grizzly bears are the same species, just different geographic populations
