In the spirit of Halloween I dive into one of the worst animated film trilogies out there. The Howard Lovecraft Series! An adaptation of a graphic novel where a young H.P. Lovecraft Befriends C'thulhu.

My problem with this is not that it's a Cthulhu series for kids, it's that it's a BAD Cthulhu series for kids. And that difference is important because I actually like the idea. The series looks much better in comic book form and I seriously hope the writing is better too, because holy crap is the animated version BORING!! As someone who really values good lighting in visual medias, I'm just super distracted by how poorly used it is. I'm also someone who values strong expression, so there's another testament to how this series messes up so badly. 7:24 Those imps are made of plastic! Thought we wouldn't notice, but we did. Seriously, a kids film featuring Cthulhu can actually work. Billy And Mandy was hardcore and I freaking loved it; it's based around parodies of classic horror literature and other medias like Dracula, Evil Dead, and even Lovecraft Lore, the latter being represented by an episode called The Prank Call of Cthulhu where a cursed phone turns everyone into monsters! There's also Gibbous: A Cthulhu Adventure, another parody of Lovecraft that turns The Call of Cthulhu into a Monkey Island style game. I think the series could have benefited from 2D animation in the style of the comics these were adapted from, as well as someone who understands how to make dark comedy for kids.
