How to REINSTALL a Motorcycle Front End CORRECTLY? Wrecked Yamaha R1 rebuild - Part 9

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

After ruining my paint job on the upper triple clamp on the last video, I stripped everything down and repainted without paint under the washer tightening the stem 😓
So now I can finally finish the front end install on this wrecked Yamaha R1!
Here is my tightening sequence to make sure that parts are put together without stress and that the front end will work as intended:
1 - Tightening the ring nuts pressuring the steering bearings
2 - Tightening the lower triple clamp pinch bolts
3 - Tightening the upper triple clamp pinch bolts (temporarily)
4 - Tightening the steering stem nut
5 - Loosen the upper triple clamp pinch bolts to free stress from assembly
6 - Re-tightening the upper triple clamp pinch bolts (permanently)
7 - Tightening the axle bolt on the captive leg of the fork
8 - Tightening the axle pinch bolts on the captive leg
9 - Pump 5 times the front end with vigor by pushing on the upper triple clamp with the motorcycle completely vertical (in order to remove radial stress on the free leg, it will then be sitting on the wheel axle correctly)
10 - Tightening the axle pinch bolts on the free leg
11 - Tightening the brake calipers (make sure they are well positioned if you don’t have locating pins like I do on this Yamaha R1)
12 - Tightening the front fender
I recommend using a torque wrench for everything and respect your service manual torques
That’s it, now you will have a free mind and your bike will go straight ✌️

Hi I'm Tristan!
I live in New York and when I'm not working on my fitness clothing line (yoked.net) I DIY with intensity 😅
For now, I restore wrecked motorcycles. So I disassemble, weld, machine and fix those bikes so they can go back on the road!

Will it make sense to insert the axle lightly tightened when tightening the for clamps?

Hi Tristan! I'm rebuilding a 2009 Yamaha R1 and just found your video. I took off both the lower and upper triple but now I have no idea exactly how high up the lower triple should be. The top Triple clamp is easy because you just set it right at the top of the forks and I can guestimate about how far away the lower triple should be, but I don't like guessing. I've scanned the manual and there is absolutely nothing that indicates how many cm or mm from top or bottom of the fork that the lower triple should be. Do you have any idea?

Hi! So bring the top of the upper tube sticking out 2~3mm from the top of the upper clamp and you’ll ce good. Do that on both sides 👍

@@TristanDurandBuilds thanks for the response. I already put them on lol. I basically just tightened the stem down to spec per the manual and then sat the top of the forks flush with the top of the upper triples. Then tightened the top triple to spec and lastly tightened down the lowers since they would now be in whatever position they should be in
