Howdie! Not familiar with gears and what not. My mechanic says pinion gear 18t and gear 26t are they both link? He showed me 3rd gear one tooth missing. I want to make sure which one should I purchase? Any insight apprecaited.

i had a guy do some transmission polishing and now I have a false neutral between 3rd and 4th. I could have also made a mistake but im going to have to split the cases and get a better look in there. i dont think its a shifting issue because it seems to be isolated to 3rd and 4th.

Oh shoot, I didn't realize that was you! I don't think its the gear dogs because its a newer transmission. My money is on a misplaced cir clip or washer along the axle assembly. Stay posted in Thumper Talk. Im going to get the cases split and start inspecting stuff by the end of this week hopefully. Thanks for your expertise BTW. @@thetwostrokerebuilder

Question I'm rebuilding a 92 YZ250 before I put the cases together I have all the transmission parts set in place but how do I verify that it works correctly they seem to shift okay but I cannot seem to get a neutral

Only goes in one way. Once together will be fine

Doesn't have to be in neutral to put together. That's a myth lol

What are 01 kx250 gearbox like? I do hit neutral from 1st to 2nd at times. Thanks for sharing

Kx250 trans are very good rarely see any issues with them. But shit happens sometimes stuff just breaks . Could be just a clutch issue if has notched basket or any type of drag will do that from 1st to 2nd. So I'd recommend looking into your clutch 🔧🔧

@@thetwostrokerebuilder engine is split & absolutely no notches on basket only witness marks. However the previous owner said it needs clutch plates which I'm doing in this build. Clutch does not slip? If I lift up hard it seems to be a good shift every time. So maybe plates making false shift?

@@aussiedigger1441 they just don't like going from 1st to 2nd period. It's a mx bike you don't use 1sr gear other than going threw pits so keep that in mind. But roll the fork pins on something flat just make sure not bent just a tad. Usually tho if bent they get stuck in gear or won't shift past gear.

My 2000 WR400F started slipping in 5th gear yesterday. Reved up for a second and went away. I read the the 3rd and 5th pinion gear wear out. Have you heard of this?

It won't just be one gear. Be that gear and one it meshes with and maybe one that one meshes with. I have not heard of it on the wr tho but it happens sometimes to all brands

@@thetwostrokerebuilder apparently 3rd and 5th are mating gears and the dogs wear out causing 5th gear to slip. Also wears out the center shift arm I read. Sounds like I'm in for a engine spit and spend some money.

@@craigsteinman9807 did you figure out what is wrong? I put a new clutch and springs in my bike. Has not done it again, but I haven't drove it much.

mine like kinda skips sometimes shifting from 3-4th gear think this is my issue the fork?

@@marcialquinones5683 98 is different than 99+. Much stronger and I think off top of my head pretty much same from 89-98 gear and fork wise. Drum different after 93 I believe
