    why did they go with the pins and forks being as one and not sliding through like virtually every other 2 stroke gearbox including my 02 yz 125? I got humbled real quick trying to put my trans back together. it is HARD lol

    @@dr00andrew not positive but I think it was because the fourstroke then was like that. In 99' yz250 got that style trans. They went back to old style on fourstrokes not long after that but Twostrokes the same still now. It works good tho lol when it's not slipping 😆😆 I got to where I'd just change the 3 gears and fork every time I did rebuild on my race bikes. How is the new tank vent installed? Just insert the small end into the tank and pull it from the inside until it seats into place? I've got one that is leaking and haven't tried removing it yet. Was waiting until I get the new one to look at it good first to see how it's made. So, this part is like a miniature funnel, and what you're calling the "filter" is stuffed into the large end, holding it tight into the hole in the fuel tank? I'm sorry to seem slow, but this video is the ONLY thing I've found addressing this. And that's after hours of searching.

  • @thetwostrokerebuilder
    @thetwostrokerebuilder2 ай бұрын

    Dig the filter out then use a easy out to pull it out. If it's leaking gas there then filter is probably already out. Look in there with flashlight. Maybe even a screw would work to pull it out

    @@thetwostrokerebuilder I see a white part inside of the black part. Since I'm already replacing it because it's leaking, I'll use a sharp drywall screw to screw into the white part (filter?) then pull it out. Maybe I'll get lucky and it'll all come out together. going to try it right now.

  • @davidgagnon2849
    @davidgagnon28492 ай бұрын

    @@thetwostrokerebuilder Okay. Success. It all came out together as one piece. Once I got it all out, I pulled (with the screw) the white part out. I think that must be a one-way valve of some sort, maybe not a "filter). Anyway, how does the new one go in? Push it in the same way it came out? The vent is a hard plastic, as is the tank. What keeps it from leaking? an O ring maybe?

    @@mineer-pg5sv Using a high temp bearing grease is not a good idea because it wont melt and let the 2 stroke oil lubricate the crank bearings. Plus it might all gunk up in there. Yamaha shop manual states use a light amount of low temp lithium grease. I just used straight two stroke oil because when you put the case halves together they say to squirt some 2 stroke oil down the 2 holes on either side where the piston area is. Light assembly lube would be ok also. But not High temp Bearing grease.

    i had a guy do some transmission polishing and now I have a false neutral between 3rd and 4th. I could have also made a mistake but im going to have to split the cases and get a better look in there. i dont think its a shifting issue because it seems to be isolated to 3rd and 4th.
